Refine suggestions without leaving the keyboard.

Press Right Arrow while suggestions are open, type feedback such as “make it more casual and concise,” and press Return for three revised options. Repeat as needed, then choose 1, 2, or 3 to insert.

Escape returns to the previous options, including while a revision is loading. Failed requests preserve your choices and feedback draft. Reopening an unchanged phrase restores its latest suggestions and refinement history.

All complete brace phrases are now highlighted together, alongside an unfinished opening brace. The phrase currently being filled has a stronger outline, while the other phrases stay visible.

Improves editable-field detection and text-position support, including Chrome accessibility activation and validated text-marker geometry. Highlighting no longer requires a writable cursor selection. When an app exposes editable text and field bounds but no character positions, Lacuna shows a distinct field outline and phrase count instead of guessing where the words are.

Highlights follow movement immediately in Try Lacuna, and active suggestions use fresh field positions when windows move. Inspect text field… in the menu provides a local compatibility report with capabilities and counts, without including your text.

Fill multiple brace phrases in order. Lacuna starts with the earliest phrase, highlights the active one, and shows your progress in the suggestion popup. Accepting an option starts the next request using your updated wording as context. Escape stops the sequence without changing the remaining phrases.

Restores highlights in Chrome rich-text inputs that expose text positions only through their text nodes. Opening-brace highlights no longer depend on optional line metadata, and valid highlights survive slow or incomplete accessibility responses.

Highlights appear immediately when reopened and track window movement more closely.

Highlights now follow brace expressions across wrapped lines and explicit line breaks, including the Try Lacuna editor. Each visible line gets its own outline, without covering unrelated text between line fragments.

Highlights also stay within the visible text field when scrolling. Regression checks cover resizing, long expressions, Unicode, and both macOS text layout engines.

Lacuna can now update itself.

Choose Check for Updates… in the menu to download and install new releases, then relaunch automatically. You can also opt into automatic background checks from the menu.

Updates preserve settings and Keychain entries. Both the update feed and downloaded archives are verified with Lacuna's update-signing key.

This is the first version with an updater. Versions 0.2.x need one manual installation to get it.

Lacuna 0.2.2 improves insertion reliability and keeps generated options available when a replacement fails.

  • Browser and Electron editors use a targeted paste route instead of relying on selected-text setters that may silently do nothing.
  • Replacement verification waits asynchronously for editor updates, tolerates intermediate values, and avoids retrying after uncertain changes.
  • Reopening an unchanged template restores its previous candidates without another model request. The last 20 sets are kept in memory for the current session.
  • Undo and Redo in the built-in practice editor now restore the exact original text.
  • Insertion errors keep candidates, selection, and scroll position visible. Use ⌘C to copy the selected option; use ⌘R for fresh suggestions.

Requires macOS 13 or later. Universal Apple Silicon / Intel build. Preview downloads are ad-hoc signed and not notarized; see the README for installation instructions.

Lacuna now acknowledges an opening { with a subtle indigo underline while you write the instruction. Adding the closing } switches to the existing completed-template highlight.

The cue clears when you leave the expression or remove the brace, respects the highlight setting, and ignores escaped, nested, and JavaScript-style braces. An unfinished expression takes priority over older completed templates; pressing the shortcut asks you to close it instead of sending a request for the wrong template.

45 automated tests pass. Universal build for macOS 13+, Apple Silicon and Intel. Existing settings and Keychain entries are retained. Preview downloads remain ad-hoc signed and unnotarized.

Two improvements to make Lacuna easier to use from the keyboard:

  • Read suggestions with ↑ and ↓. Long options scroll in overlapping steps before moving to the next option. Tab jumps to the next option, Return accepts, and 1–3 still insert directly. The editor keeps focus.
  • Choose models from a dropdown. OpenAI and Anthropic model catalogs load using your API key. Refresh updates the list without changing your selection; saved aliases and manual IDs remain available. Compatible servers can expose /models too.

Also keeps short suggestion popups compact, improves settings layout, and rejects newline characters in API keys before sending a request.

Download the universal DMG or ZIP and replace the previous Lacuna app. Requires macOS 13 or later; supports Apple Silicon and Intel. Existing preferences and Keychain entries are retained. Preview downloads are ad-hoc signed and not notarized.

Validation: 40 automated tests pass. Native UI checks cover long-text scrolling, focus retention, dropdown selection, refresh, and using the selected model in a request. Model API requests were tested with local fixtures; no real API key is included.

Lacuna fills {instructions} in editable text with three suggestions. Press ⇧⌘K, then 1, 2, or 3 to insert one. Escape cancels.

  • Native Swift/AppKit menu bar app for macOS 13+, Apple Silicon and Intel.
  • OpenAI, Anthropic, and OpenAI-compatible servers; API keys stored in Keychain.
  • Configurable shortcut, optional brace highlighting, and a built-in practice editor.
  • MIT licensed, with source build and install instructions in the README.

Download the DMG or ZIP, move Lacuna to Applications, and open it. Enable Accessibility in System Settings and add your own provider API key in Lacuna Settings.

This is an early preview. The download is ad-hoc signed and not notarized; macOS may require Privacy & Security → Open Anyway after the first launch attempt. Editor compatibility depends on macOS Accessibility support. Twenty automated tests and the built-in editor flow with a local test provider pass; live provider and external-editor verification remain to be completed.
