What changed

New spec page: accessibility/consistent-help — WCAG 2.2 Success Criterion 3.2.6 Consistent Help.

  • Wires consistent-help into relatedSlugs on redundant-entry, accessible-authentication, and error-pages.
  • Changelog entry (added), linking the page inline.
  • OG image + the four count-driven images the new page bumps.
  • npm run sign:skill → SKILL.md now claims 161 pages; index.json digest recomputed.

Why now

Surfaced by the daily standards scan. The site already covers 3.3.7 Redundant Entry and 3.3.8 Accessible Authentication from the same WCAG 2.2 cohort, but had nothing on where a repeated help mechanism has to sit.

Primary sources

Status: recommended

Level A, but the criterion is conditional (it binds only if you already repeat a help mechanism) and nobody is locked out of a function when it is violated — the help is merely harder to find. It does not clear the "platform contract breaks / a clear class of users is harmed" bar for required. This matches redundant-entry, also Level A, also recommended.

Auditable-outcome check

Passes. Crawl the page set, confirm the help affordance holds the same position in the source order per layout variation. "Why it matters" is phrased for visitors (cognitive load, screen magnification, users under time pressure).

Notes

  • Draft, per the routine. Not merged; the MCP Worker was not redeployed.
  • A sibling PR (add(a11y): Dragging movements (WCAG 2.2 SC 2.5.7) #91) adds dragging-movements (SC 2.5.7). Each independently bumps the SKILL.md page count to 161 — whichever merges second needs npm run sign:skill rerun to land on 162.
  • npm run build passes (161 pages indexed).

🤖 Generated with Claude Code

A repeated help mechanism must occur in the same order relative to other page content. Documents the four help-mechanism types and contrasts against the belief that the criterion obliges a site to offer help at all.

Status: recommended — Level A, but nobody is locked out, so it does not clear the required bar; matches redundant-entry (also Level A, also recommended).
