These are test builds. Windows, Linux and Intel Mac phone setup, native installation, notification/tray behavior and signed update installation still need target-platform acceptance. First-time EDL setup for this exact version remains a release gate. The stable Apple Silicon release and automatic-update channel remain on 0.8.7.

Changes

  • A full-window photo viewer fits photos to the window and supports click-to-zoom at the original size.
  • Web links in messages and text notes open in your default browser.
  • Separate Intel Mac, Windows and Linux setup runtimes and installer builds.
  • Native Windows USB inventory, locking and sparse recovery files; native filesystem checker compatibility fixes.

Checks and current limits

Both Mac apps and DMGs are Developer ID signed, notarized and stapled. The Intel app ran under Rosetta, synced over real USB and opened a chat link. Windows and Linux runners each passed 167 Python tests (3 skipped), all 73 UI tests and 28 native tests (3 live tests ignored), and built their installers. The photo-viewer JavaScript and styles were verified inside all packaged apps.

The Windows installer is unsigned and needs suitable Android ADB and Qualcomm EDL USB drivers. Slight does not replace drivers automatically. Linux DEB includes narrowly scoped udev rules; AppImage users must configure equivalent access. Linux start-at-login and Windows/Linux HEIC conversion need further work. Linux automatic updates target AppImage; DEB package updates need a separate installation path. All platforms require a Light Phone II; Light Phone III and RCS are unsupported. Text notes remain read-only.

USB takes priority over direct Wi-Fi. The optional encrypted relay works across different Wi-Fi networks and cellular. It is disabled by default for new pairings. Setup uses compact recovery files and does not replace LightOS or the bootloader.

Source and integrity

SHA256SUMS lists all installers and source archives. The GPLv3 Python/setup helper source, build/test scripts, complete pinned EDL and F2FS sources, Windows checker patches, USB sources and license texts accompany the installers in the setup-source archives. The Intel archive also includes the pinned static OpenSSL source. No Firehose programmer is redistributed; first-time setup downloads the pinned file directly from upstream and verifies its checksum.

Slight is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Light.

Download for Mac

Download Slight 0.8.7 — Apple Silicon · macOS installer · macOS 13 or later

Slight is an independent desktop messaging app for Light Phone II. Not affiliated with or endorsed by Light.

Install and connect

  1. Open the DMG and drag Slight into Applications.
  2. Open Slight and follow Connect your phone.
  3. For a new phone connection, unplug USB and hold the power button to shut down the phone. Hold Volume Up + Volume Down while plugging USB back in, keep holding for a few seconds, then release. Slight detects EDL mode and continues setup.

The installer bundles its setup tools. No Docker, VM, Homebrew, Python, or Android tools need to be installed. Internet is required on the Mac once, during first-time EDL setup, to download a checksum-verified device programmer directly from upstream. Setup retains compact recovery files for its authorization changes. It does not replace LightOS or the bootloader.

Included

  • SMS, image MMS, and group conversations; image drag and drop and local HEIC conversion on macOS.
  • Contacts management and phone-only text notes, audio playback and MP3 recording downloads.
  • USB first, then direct Wi-Fi on the same network, then the optional encrypted relay at relay.slight.app for cellular and different Wi-Fi networks.
  • Menu bar mode, native notifications that open conversations, and optional start at login.
  • Signed in-app updates with background downloads and Restart to update. Optional usage metrics are off by default.
  • New Wi-Fi pairings keep the relay off until you enable it in Settings. The hosted relay is in free preview; billing is not enabled.

Compatibility and limits

This build targets Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 13 or later and the tested stock Light Phone II / Android 8.1 firmware profile 4101.0.A.0090/09111136. Intel Mac, Windows, Linux, and Light Phone III installers are not included. Notes are read-only. RCS, complete phone restoration, and official phone-update compatibility are not verified.

Integrity and update assets

The app and DMG are Developer ID signed, accepted by Apple notarization, stapled, and verified with Gatekeeper. The signed updater archive passed installation into a temporary app bundle. The published GitHub feed was also tested end to end: Slight 0.8.6 downloaded 0.8.7 automatically, installed it through Restart to update, reopened itself and reconnected by USB with preferences preserved.

The installer SHA-256 is listed in the attached Slight-0.8.7-macos-arm64-checksums.sha256 file.

Download the .dmg to install Slight. The .app.tar.gz, .sig, and latest.json files are for the updater. The setup source archive, checksum file, and release receipt are supplied separately.

The Python/setup helper source and build/test scripts are licensed under GPLv3. The setup source archive includes the complete pinned EDL and F2FS tool sources and license texts. No Firehose programmer is redistributed in the installer or source archive.
