The reader was rebuilt around the text, and three things that failed silently were made to speak.

Reading

• No bottom bar. Chapter paging floats over the text and costs none of the screen's 31 grid units; the old bar spent five of them on every chapter, read or not.
• The title floats too, so scripture runs underneath it. Both edges fade from the page colour rather than being cut, and the chapter reference is larger now that it no longer carries a translation line.
• Search moved into the reader, top right. It used to mean going back to Home.

Fixes

• Loading and error text was invisible. Floating the title bar left "Opening Genesis 3" painted underneath it, so a cold open flashed a blank page and a failed asset presented as a black screen with a title and no explanation.
• Search could not reach the New Testament. Filling the 60-result page in canonical order gave every slot to the Pentateuch: "love" reported 546 matches and offered a route to none of the ones anyone wants. Results now spread across the books that matched, then sort back into canonical order. "love" spans Genesis 22 to Revelation 1 on one page.
• An arrow now always opens the chapter at verse 1. Two separate faults: the scroll position outlived the chapter swap, and the target verse was inferred from a comparison that became true again when you paged back to where you started.
• Crossing a book boundary left the wrong chapter list behind. Back stays back, because a search result has to be able to get home. Tapping the title opens the chapter list of the book you are actually in.
• The translation mark was decoration. It sat outside the row's tappable area, so tapping the control that shows the state did nothing.

Smaller

Word-level marking is named where you can still find it after your first highlight. Highlight previews cut on word boundaries instead of mid-word. Translation says that word highlights are scoped to the translation they were made in. Home names the verse it resumes at. The chapter arrows stop announcing themselves twice to a screen reader.

Still true

Nothing here has run on a Light Phone III. This APK is signed with the SDK's public development key, not by Light, and current LightOS builds may not run SDK tools at all. See the README for what that means before reaching for a USB cable.

Three public-domain translations bundled — King James, World English Bible and
Berean Standard. Every verse on the phone: no permissions, no network calls,
nothing to sign in to.

• Tap a verse to highlight it, or long-press and drag to mark individual words
• Full-text search across the translation
• Search results and highlights open on the verse, not the top of the chapter

Installing. Sideload with Developer Mode on, or adb install. This build
targets LightOS on a real Light Phone III — it will not run in the SDK
emulator. For that, swap serverPackage in cardinal/lighttool.toml.

Signing. Signed with the SDK's lightsdk-dev key, which is published in
the light-sdk repo. That is a development key, not Light's and not one only I
hold, so treat this as a sideload build rather than signed distribution.
