Previous audio track and subtitle not set correctly for next episode

Describe The Bug
When "Set audio track based on previous item" is set, the next episode will use the default audio track. The audio track shown as selected in the GUI is the previously selected audio track, and the only way to get the audio track to actually change is to select a different audio track and then the correct one again.

Similar behavior happens when "Set subtitle track based on previous item" is set with subtitles.

Steps To Reproduce

1. Go to Menu -> Settings -> Playback
2. Enable "Set audio track based on previous item"
3. Open the first episode of a show with multiple audio tracks and multiple episodes
4. Select a non-default audio track
5. Skip to the next episode
6. Hear the wrong audio track and see the correct audio track selected in the playback GUI.

Expected Behavior
When the next episode loads, the selected audio track/subtitle for the previous episode should be selected (where possible) for the next episode.

No errors reported

System (please complete the following information):

• Client Platform: Windows 10 and macOS 14.1.2
• Server Platform: Docker on Linux
• Browser: Firefox 122.0 and Chrome 120
• Jellyfin Version: 10.8.13

I've looked into this further and it appears this issue only occurs when transcoding needs to happen.

This seems to be an issue with the logic around setting/changing the audio track on systems that need transcoding. I think I may have tracked down what is happening.

1. https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin-web/blob/master/src/plugins/htmlVideoPlayer/plugin.js#L499
   • Sets the audio track index to play to null if transcoding needs to happen.
2. https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin-web/blob/master/src/plugins/htmlVideoPlayer/plugin.js#L952
   • Only sets the correct audio stream if it isn't null (needs transcoding) and the player supports setting the audio stream.
3. https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin-web/blob/master/src/components/playback/playbackmanager.js#L1298
   • If somehow the check at 2 got skipped, such as when the user manually selects an audio track, the track gets changed, with special handling for tracks needing transcoding

That does seem to be the same issue. I'll test that PR later today, and close this issue in favor of that one.

Just wondering why this issue was closed when it's still occurring? Even in 10.9.7 (the latest version), I still need to manually disable/re-enable the desired subtitle track whenever another episode comes on. It appears that #4852 hasn't been merged yet, so perhaps this ticket should be reopened for tracking purposes (considering it deals with subtitles and #3994 is about audio)?

Either that, or maybe the other ticket should probably be renamed to "Audio and subtitle tracks reset on next episode". ☺️

I second this. I have no idea why this is closed as well. I have been encountering the same issue ever since I started using Jellyfin back when it was in its 10.8.10 version and this bug has been persistent throughout.
A work around I found was changing the tracks default subtitle flags manually for each file. But this is painful when using stuff like the *arr apps that will hardlink torrents from a downloads folder to your media folder.
