New in this Mac release

• Audio recovery while the app is closed. An independent background helper offers a notification to open PEQ when Pragmatic EQ is selected without a responsive processing connection. After 10 seconds without recovery, it restores the previous real output, or an available built-in output if that device is disconnected. Normal Quit restores the real output immediately.
• Automatic driver cleanup. New driver installations include a cleanup helper that removes the PEQ driver after the app is moved to the Trash, allowing roughly 1–2 minutes for the periodic check and update grace period. Saved profiles and settings are retained.
• Driver controls in Settings. Under Audio settings → Mac audio driver, enable cleanup for an existing driver installation, uninstall the driver, or manage the audio recovery background item. The standalone uninstall script also removes the installed cleanup script and launchd job.
• Recovery startup fix. Build 40 registers a newly installed recovery helper even when macOS initially reports it as “not found.” Settings shows recovery as enabled only when the registered helper is running.

Includes the adaptive layout, wider editors, Welcome guide, language selection, separate left/right profile imports and other improvements from 1.0.2.

Install and permissions

Quit the old app before replacing it. Open the DMG, drag Pragmatic Audio PEQ into Applications, then launch it. Existing profiles and preferences are retained.

Allow notifications for Pragmatic Audio PEQ Recovery and allow its background activity in macOS Login Items. Notification permissions and Focus can affect the banner; automatic fallback requires the background helper to be allowed. A player pinned to a specific audio device may still need its own output selection changed.

If the driver was installed by an older release, enable Automatic driver cleanup once in Settings → Audio settings → Mac audio driver. This requires administrator permission. Uninstalling the driver restarts Mac audio briefly.

Signing and validation

Signed by KONECKTA LIMITED (4WD4B4CW9Z). The app and DMG were accepted by Apple’s notary service and have stapled tickets. Gatekeeper validation passed. SHA-256 is provided in macOS-SHA256SUMS.txt.

The updated helper was confirmed registered and running automatically on the development Mac. Full end-to-end notification, crash recovery and Trash removal checks remain for manual testing.

This release updates macOS. Android remains 1.0.2 (38), Windows remains build 26, and the iPhone/iPad app is available on the App Store.

• Welcome guide, clearer connection instructions, manual language selection including Dutch, and reorganised audio and visualisation settings.
• Separate left/right personalised filter imports, improved filter parsing, Smart Headroom/manual preamp controls and corrected bass/treble previews.

Install

Open the DMG and drag the app to Applications. Quit an older running copy before replacing it. Open the app and select Pragmatic EQ as the sound output; the app can do this from Live. Existing profiles and settings are retained.

The audio driver is bundled; installing it for the first time requires administrator permission. Windows and Android use separate platform releases.

Uses the existing Android release key, matching previously published APKs. Certificate SHA-256: 82f662bf33ae77ded3a46ec9a9ddef61c6292d0a8d26b5b5feb7d9388ee460f5. Install over the existing app to retain profiles and settings. Build 38 installed successfully over build 26 on the FiiO M25. SHA-256 is provided in Android-SHA256SUMS.txt.

Android audio

The EQ attaches to supported music players through Android’s system audio effects. Some players bypass that path. Crossfeed, Tube Amp and Vinyl remain unavailable on Android because this path does not expose the audio samples for our DSP. Visualisation uses Android’s coarse mono capture and requests its required microphone permission.

This APK is for direct installation. It is separate from the Google Play submission.

Pragmatic Audio PEQ windows-v1.0.0 for Windows (build 26)

Early tester build for Windows 11 (x64). Please tell us what you hear and what breaks.

Turn it on

1. Run the installer. It is not code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen shows "Windows protected your PC": choose More info, then Run anyway. (If Smart App Control is on, Windows can block it outright; you would need to turn that off to try this build.)
2. Open the app, go to Settings > Windows audio, and switch the effect on for the playback device you listen through. Windows asks for permission.
3. Switching a device on or off restarts the Windows audio service, which briefly stops every player. The app presses play again for you; if your player stays paused or silent, press play or restart it.
4. Load a profile, play music, and use Live Audio to see the EQ working. Only the devices you choose have the effect on, and Settings lists every one.

Known limits

• Only stereo, 32-bit float, 48 kHz was tested. 44.1 kHz, multichannel, USB DACs and exclusive mode are untested.
• Turning a device on or off needs the audio service restart; Windows does not apply the change to a running audio graph.
• If something in the audio chain fails, the audio passes through untouched (the EQ is simply off) and C:\ProgramData\PragmaticAudioPEQ\apo.log records why.
• x64 only. No ARM64 build yet.
• The uninstaller removes everything the installer added, including the shared folder.
