Pet Halo 0.1.0 Beta 4

Pet Halo is an independent, unofficial macOS companion for Codex. Beta 4
restores the Pet Ring arc opening for the current Codex Desktop layout while
preserving the existing Pet center, visual-center calibration, Usage
presentation, and fallback hierarchy.

Highlights

  • Activity cards above the Pet select the upper arc opening, and activity cards
below the Pet select the lower arc opening.
  • The current Codex Desktop Pet-spanning Accessibility container is excluded
    from activity-direction resolution.
  • Narrow voice and resize controls are excluded from activity-direction
    resolution.
  • Multiple activity cards on the same side are treated as one directional
stack. Mixed-side activity remains ambiguous and retains the prior opening
    instead of guessing.
  • Pet selection, midpoint tracking, saved visual-center offset, ring radii,
Usage semantics, and the Pet → calibrated-window → free-floating hierarchy
    are unchanged.

Compatibility boundary

The candidate was prepared against Codex Desktop 26.727.40816 (6067). Pet
Halo reads only the existing Accessibility window role, subrole, visibility,
position, and size geometry required by Pet following. It does not inspect
window titles, conversation content, screenshots, or OCR.

Requirements

  • macOS 14.0 or later on Apple silicon or Intel.
  • Supported Codex CLI and Desktop versions listed in docs/COMPATIBILITY.md.
  • Accessibility permission only when following is enabled.

Distribution boundary

This is Beta software distributed as an Unsigned Developer Preview. The
manually gated GitHub workflow publishes it only from reviewed main, with the
new v0.1.0-beta.4 tag and bundle build 4, after the unsigned artifact,
manifest, release notes, checksums, and source commit pass validation.

Pet-Halo-0.1.0-beta.4-unsigned-universal.zip is not signed with a Developer ID
certificate and is not notarized by Apple. macOS may block its first launch.
Verify SHA256SUMS, the GitHub source, and repository provenance before deciding
whether to override Gatekeeper. A future signed/notarized artifact must use a
new tag and build number; it must not replace this release.

Pet Halo 0.1.0 Beta 3

Pet Halo is an independent, unofficial macOS companion for Codex. Beta 3
improves compatibility with the current Codex Desktop Pet surfaces, restores
centered placement across Hide/Wake, and makes the Pet Ring fail closed when no
truthful live inner-ring metric is available.

Highlights

  • Pet discovery handles the current multi-surface Codex Desktop topology with a
deterministic largest-SystemDialog policy and still rejects tied largest
    candidates.
  • Hide/Wake restores the saved visual-center placement immediately, without
waiting for a new task activity event.
  • The Pet Ring presents Weekly remaining and an optional exact 300-minute 5h
window. The former Today ring is removed.
  • Wide Accessibility geometry may choose only the shared arc opening. It is not
exposed as Live Activity because the same surfaces persist while Codex is idle.
  • The inner slot remains hidden and reserved for a future exact Context
Remaining source. Expanded fallback cards retain their capability-gated
    Account Usage details.
  • Public README previews now show the current Weekly-only presentation.

Requirements

  • macOS 14.0 or later on Apple silicon or Intel.
  • Supported Codex CLI and Desktop versions listed in docs/COMPATIBILITY.md.
  • Accessibility permission only when following is enabled.

Pet Halo 0.1.0 Beta 2 — Unsigned Developer Preview

Pet Halo is an independent, unofficial macOS companion for Codex. Beta 2 adds the verified Weekly reset date to the compact Pet Ring capsule while preserving the existing Usage model, target hierarchy, and fallback surfaces.

Unsigned preview warning: The downloadable artifact is unsigned and is not notarized by Apple. macOS may block its first launch. Do not treat it as a signed or notarized release, and do not override Gatekeeper unless you have independently verified the GitHub source, release checksum, and repository provenance.

Highlights

  • The Weekly capsule now displays its reset date when Codex provides one, for example W 39% · Jul 27.
  • The reset timestamp is rendered in the user's local timezone, while accessibility retains the full local date, time, and timezone context.
  • Newer pre-1.0 Codex CLI versions at or above 0.145.0-alpha.18 may run provisionally after required read-only runtime capabilities succeed; the exact reviewed registry remains unchanged.
  • Malformed, too-old, explicitly denied, 1.x, and runtime-incompatible CLI versions still fail closed. Optional five-hour and Today data remain capability-gated and are never estimated.
  • No Usage semantics, remaining-percentage semantics, protocol request scope, Pet Ring visuals, Weekly reset-date behavior, Pet discovery, Accessibility targeting, or reviewed Codex Desktop versions changed.

Requirements

  • macOS 14.0 or later on Apple silicon or Intel.
  • Supported Codex CLI and Desktop versions listed in docs/COMPATIBILITY.md.
  • Accessibility permission only when following is enabled.

Beta note

This is Beta software. The unsigned Universal artifact is Pet-Halo-0.1.0-beta.2-unsigned-universal.zip. It is not signed with a Developer ID certificate and is not notarized by Apple.

Pet Halo 0.1.0 Beta 1 — Unsigned Developer Preview

Pet Halo is an independent, unofficial macOS companion for Codex. This Source Public Beta presents weekly remaining Usage, an optional five-hour window, and Today compared with historical daily peak around a visible Codex Pet, with safe window/free-floating fallbacks.

Unsigned preview warning: The downloadable artifact is unsigned and is not notarized by Apple. macOS may block its first launch. Building from the reviewed source remains available. Do not treat this artifact as a signed or notarized release, and do not override Gatekeeper unless you have independently verified the GitHub source, release checksum, and repository provenance.

Highlights

  • Original, non-activating Pet Ring and menu-bar experience.
  • Pet-first following with calibrated Codex-window and free-floating fallbacks.
  • Light/dark, Increase Contrast, Differentiate Without Color, Reduce Transparency, and Reduce Motion support.
  • Read-only, fail-closed Codex CLI compatibility with no Usage persistence.

Requirements

  • macOS 14.0 or later on Apple silicon or Intel.
  • Supported Codex CLI and Desktop versions listed in docs/COMPATIBILITY.md.
  • Accessibility permission only when following is enabled.

Beta note

This is prerelease software. Report compatibility problems through the sanitized issue form. Never attach raw protocol payloads, tokens, account identity, conversation content, private screenshots, raw Accessibility errors, executable paths, or PIDs.

A future signed and notarized candidate will use a new Beta version. This unsigned artifact will not be silently replaced under the same release identity.
