Jellyfin PS2 1.0.0

The first release of Jellyfin PS2: a native Jellyfin client for the PlayStation 2.
Browse your library, watch films and series, and listen to music on real PS2
hardware, launched from a USB stick.

Features

  • Users: "Who is watching?" with your server's users. Sign in once; each
signed-in user is remembered. "Other user" covers hidden accounts.
  • HOME: Continue Watching, with progress, and Next Up.
  • Library: Movies, Series (seasons and episodes), Music (artists and
albums) and Search, with posters and descriptions.
  • Video: up to 640x480, sound in sync, pause, -10 s / +20 s, a time bar,
and Resume from where you stopped (saved in Jellyfin, shared with your
    other devices).
  • Subtitles: text subtitles (SRT, ASS, WebVTT) drawn by the PS2 itself,
as quick to start and seek as no subtitles. Picture-based ones (PGS,
VobSub) are burned in by the server. Accented letters are supported
    (French, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese).
  • Series: the next episode plays automatically after a 5-second
countdown, with the same audio and subtitle choice.
  • Music: album playback with play, pause, stop and track skipping.
  • One settings file: settings.txt next to the ELF holds the server,
the network setup and signed-in users. It is optional: without it, the PS2
asks your router for an address and you type the server address once.

Requirements

  • A PS2 with network access: a slim, a fat console with the official
    Network Adaptor, or a PSX.
  • A FAT32 USB stick (small and old sticks work best; use the front port).
  • A way to launch an ELF: uLaunchELF/wLaunchELF, FreeMcBoot, PS2BBL or OPL.
  • A Jellyfin server on the same network, reachable over plain HTTP, with
    transcoding available.

Installation

  1. Copy jellyfin-ps2.elf to a folder on the USB stick.
  2. Optionally add settings.txt next to it: start from settings.txt.example,
and see tuto.txt for every setting.
  3. Launch the ELF, enter your server address (for example
http://192.168.0.20:8096), press START, then choose your user.

Good to know

  • Video output is 480i for now; 480p is planned.
  • Picture-based subtitles take longer to start, since the server has to burn
    them into the video.
  • Sign-ins are stored in settings.txt on the stick. If the stick is lost,
end the sign-in in Jellyfin's dashboard (Devices).
  • After signing in, give the console a couple of seconds before switching it
off, while the sign-in is saved to the stick.
  • If playback ever stops with "Playback stopped unexpectedly" and a letter,
or the screen turns solid yellow or white during a film, please
    open an issue with
the letter or colour and what you were doing.

Files

  • jellyfin-ps2.elf: the application.
  • tuto.txt: how to set up settings.txt.
  • settings.txt.example: an example to copy and edit.
