First public release of MacRemote: your iPhone as a remote for your Mac, over your home Wi-Fi.

Features

  • Volume, mute, play/pause, next/previous
  • Brightness for the Mac screen and the external monitor
  • Arrows, Return, Esc, Tab and typing into the focused field
  • Now Playing with cover art and progress (YouTube, Netflix, Music, Spotify and more)
  • Optional screen preview, off by default
  • Quit the frontmost app or MacRemote from the phone
  • The phone page is in English or Italian, chosen from the phone's language

Install

  1. Download MacRemote.zip, unzip it and move MacRemote to Applications.
  2. Right-click the app, choose Open, then confirm. macOS asks once because the app is not notarized by Apple. On macOS 15 or later: System Settings, Privacy and Security, Open Anyway.
  3. Accept the Accessibility and Local Network prompts, then scan the QR code with your iPhone.

Requirements

  • macOS 14 or later on a Mac with Apple silicon (arm64 only)
  • iPhone and Mac on the same Wi-Fi

The app is ad-hoc signed and not notarized. The connection is plain HTTP protected by a secret token in the link, so use it on a network you trust.
