@jlnau jlnau released this 21 Oct 12:56

New

  • A new email style: Side rail. Under Customise, Email style you can choose Classic (the usual look, still the default) or Side rail.
    • On a computer, the buttons sit in a narrow bar on the left, the task is a bar across the top, and the AI summary comes first.
    • On a phone, the email opens with a small X, a Reply button and a three-dot menu. Tapping the email address opens the copy choices. Reviewed, Archive, Bin, Snooze and Tags are square icon buttons along the bottom.
    • Nothing is removed. Every button does what it did before, and your choice is saved with your other View choices.
  • Sent now reaches back four months. The Sent page used to show the last 14 days. It now shows the last 4 months, up to the newest 300 emails (it was 100). Sent mail is still read from your mailbox when you open the page and is never stored.
  • Daily summary: clearer rows.
    • The button that sends an email back to the inbox is now an up arrow, like the Android app.
    • Reviewed, Archive and Bin now have colours.
    • Each email has Show full email, and Show attachment(s) when it has files. One file opens at once, and several show a short list to pick from.
    • The day and time sit at the far right of the row. On a phone, these two buttons are small icons.
  • The Customise panel closes when you click outside it. Choices inside the panel keep it open.

Fixed

  • Quick AI Send no longer fails or changes the subject so often. The AI sometimes answered with the word "Data" as the subject, and the safety check then stopped the whole send. If the AI changes the subject more than a proofread should, your subject is now kept exactly as written and the text is still proofread. The text is still refused if numbers, names, links or the length change.
  • Conversation View: Hide works when one of its emails is open. Hide used to do nothing until you opened a different email.

Known

  • An email moved out of Junk by hand in your mail app after you have already read it does not appear in Enveliq's inbox. The inbox only imports unread mail, and read mail appears under Include read mail. Using Not junk inside Enveliq works as expected.

Enveliq v0.102 release notes

Highlights

  • Settings and Administration redesigned. Every page is now a calm list of rows in soft grouped cards. Press a row to open that page full width, with a back link and a big title. Switches are real on/off switches, choices are drop-downs, and Save and Add sit together at the bottom (fixed in place on a phone). A small ? holds the long explanations. It works in light and dark, on a computer and on a phone. Nothing was removed: every option is still there, one row deeper. The Android app is not changed by this.
  • A tidier email action row. A three-dot button at the far right now holds Important person, Always archive these, Send to Junk, Block sender, Mute conversation, Mark unread, Print email and Save as PDF.
  • Pick any date and time for Snooze and Send later (web and Android), from a minute to a year ahead, in your own time zone.

New

  • Mute conversation (web and Android). Archives the email and files later replies in Archive without an alert. Nothing is deleted. Settings, Muted conversations lists them with Unmute.
  • Away reply. An optional automatic answer between two dates (Settings, Rules & calendar). Off until switched on. It answers each person once, skips lists, newsletters, automatic and no-reply mail, and sends at most 20 an hour.
  • Signatures with formatting, and one for each address. Bold, italic, links and line breaks. Changing From in a new email, reply or forward swaps in that address's signature. Your existing signature stays the default. Android uses the per-address signature as plain text.
  • Conversation View. A Customise switch (off by default) groups emails of one conversation under the newest.
  • Mark unread on the website. A Reviewed email has a Mark unread button that restores the unread mark in your mailbox and returns it to the inbox.
  • Print email and Save as PDF open the email on its own, then your browser's print window.

Improved

  • Daily summary box. The top and bottom bars stay in place and only the middle scrolls. Each email shows the day and time it arrived. The button that takes an email out of the summary is now a small down-arrow titled "Send back to the inbox". Clicking outside closes the box.
  • Print and Save as PDF keep your email open instead of opening over the one you are reading.
  • Phone Back button while writing. Back asks whether to keep a new email, reply or forward as a draft, and Back again saves it. With nothing written, Back just closes it.
  • Block sender now lives in the three-dot menu (it is still in Settings, Mail rules).

Things that changed

  • The stand-alone Administration address (/admin) now opens People & sign-in.
  • Results of Sync now and Check connection now show on the mailbox's Connection page.

Privacy and safety

  • Away reply is the one place Enveliq sends without you pressing Send, so it is off by default and tightly limited.
  • Raw email bodies and attachments are still never stored.

For the maintainer

  • Merging publishes nothing. Publish a GitHub Release tagged v0.102 (matching backend/version.py) once every check passes, then press Redeploy in Arcane.

Writing email (website)

  • A proper writing box. New email, Reply, Reply all and Forward now have a toolbar for bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, text colour, bullet and numbered lists, indent, quote, links and pictures.
  • Pictures. Add one with the button, paste a screenshot, or drop one into the box. Press a picture and drag a corner to resize it, keeping its shape.
  • Links. The link button asks for the text to show and the address. Press a link in the box to see where it goes, with Change and Remove.
  • Formatted copy plus plain text. Every email now goes out with a formatted copy and a plain-text copy, as other email programs do. Pictures travel inside the email, so nothing is fetched from the internet.
  • Send has an arrow. It holds Send later and Quick AI Send, which are no longer separate buttons.
  • Minimise. The – button keeps an email at the bottom of the screen. Several can wait there, and each reopens when you press it.
  • Fixed top and bottom bars. In a writing window, the title bar and the Attach, Cancel and Send row stay in place on a computer; only the middle scrolls.
  • Change the subject. In a reply or forward, the subject you type is now the one sent.
  • Limits. Pictures are not kept in Drafts or Send later emails. Quick AI Send and Help me write give back plain words, with no formatting.

Daily summary and the inbox

  • Fuller daily summary. Tasks due, parcels out for delivery, replies you are waiting for and subscriptions coming up, in one message. A switch counts new email in the summary instead of announcing each one.
  • Hold email for the summary. Email that can wait is held out of your inbox, listed under Held for summary and in the summary at the top. Urgent mail and mail from important people still come straight through. Off until switched on.
  • Clean up. A new page lists mailing lists from the last 60 days. For each: Unsubscribe, Archive what's here (asks first, 10-minute Undo), Always archive new ones, or Keep.
  • Tidier multi-select. Small icon buttons for Reviewed, Archive and Bin; "Inbox options" is now "Options".

Writing help

  • Quick AI Send. Proofreads spelling, grammar and punctuation only, then sends at once. Off until switched on.
  • Your writing style. Enveliq can learn how you write from your 20 newest sent emails and keep a guide you can read and edit.

Android app

  • Writing help now matches the website (Write a reply for me, Help me write, Check my reply, Quick AI Send).
  • Tidier summary and new-email screens: Send and the clock for Send later fixed at the top, bottom buttons in two rows, message box stays above the keyboard.
  • Neater address lines: labels inside the boxes, people inside the To box, a contacts button, and an arrow for Cc and Bcc.
  • Editable subject for replies and forwards.
  • Fix: Undo after a swipe brings the email back as a normal row.

Behind the scenes

  • Push relay deploys itself when a change reaches main. Needs two repository secrets, CLOUDFLARE_API_TOKEN and CLOUDFLARE_ACCOUNT_ID, added once.
  • Push relay rate limit: 60 requests a minute per address. Redeploy the Worker once with cd relay && npx wrangler deploy.
  • Steadier browser checks.

Enveliq 0.100

In short

Android updates now install over the previous version, and signing in with a passkey saved on your phone works for everyone with nothing to set up.

Before you update

Android: this is the one time you have to remove the app first. Earlier versions were each signed with a different key, so Android refuses to update them. Uninstall Enveliq (press and hold its icon, then App info, then Uninstall), install 0.100, and sign in again. Your mail and settings are on the server, so nothing is lost. From now on every update installs over the last one.

Server: update as usual and redeploy. Nothing to change.

What is new

  • Updates install. The official Android app is now signed with one permanent key, so each new version installs over the last. A release can no longer be published with a throwaway key.
  • Passkeys on the phone work with no setting. The official app's key is built in, and Enveliq publishes its own /.well-known/assetlinks.json, so Sign in with a passkey uses Android's own passkey screen (Bitwarden, Google Password Manager). If no passkey is available, it opens the browser as before.
  • Your own build of the app? Add its signing fingerprint with ENVELIQ_ANDROID_CERT_SHA256. It is added next to the official one.
  • The Android and security guides now describe signing correctly.

Check after updating

  • https://your-address/.well-known/assetlinks.json shows the app name and a fingerprint starting C0:9F:82:69. It must be reachable by anyone, so don't put Cloudflare Access in front of that path.
  • Passkeys you already added on the website keep working.

Enveliq v0.99

Choose a tag to compare

@jlnau jlnau released this 20 Oct 04:30
3c7d3b8

Enveliq 0.99

Passkeys saved on the phone, an inbox that refreshes itself, and terms and privacy in the app and on the sign-in page. Plus a round of checks that wording and documents match how Enveliq really works.

Android app

  • Sign in with a passkey uses the passkey on your phone. A passkey kept in Bitwarden or Google Password Manager signs you in through Android's own passkey screen, without opening the browser. If there is no passkey to use, or the server is not set up for it, the button opens the browser as before (a passkey or single sign-on). Closing the passkey screen does nothing else.
  • The inbox refreshes itself. While the app is open on the inbox the list reloads quietly about once a minute, and again as soon as you come back to the app, so something deleted on the website disappears without pulling down. It never refreshes while you have an email open, are writing, or have emails ticked, and does nothing while the app is out of sight.
  • Back unticks selected emails instead of leaving the app.
  • Terms and privacy are in the app. Settings, About has Terms of use, Privacy and Security. The sign-in screen says "By signing in you agree to the terms of use and the privacy notice" with both as links. The first time you use the app on a phone, a short Before you start notice says that Enveliq is provided as it is with no warranty, that AI summaries can be wrong, to keep your own backups, and that an online AI service receives the text of emails it summarises. Press I understand to continue. That choice is remembered on that phone only.
  • Smaller fixes: a task you add shows on the open email's task card straight away; "Include read mail" is checked again on the next refresh if the first check could not reach the server; the spell-check box and the two-factor code box keep the cursor where it was when the text changes from outside, such as a signature being added.

Website

  • The sign-in page mentions the terms. Under the password boxes it says "By signing in you agree to the terms of use and the privacy notice", with both as links.
  • Wording fixed. The administrator description of Include read mail now says 60 days (it still said 14) and uses the new name. The privacy page, the security notes and the guides say the same thing.

For the person who runs Enveliq

  • New optional setting: ENVELIQ_ANDROID_CERT_SHA256. Set it to the Android app's signing fingerprint to turn on passkeys on the phone's own screen. The fingerprint is shown under "Signing certificate" in the summary of the Build Android app run on GitHub (it is public, not a secret). Several fingerprints can be listed, separated by commas. With it empty nothing changes and the app opens the browser for passkeys.
  • Check the link file. Enveliq then publishes /.well-known/assetlinks.json (the app's name and the public fingerprint). Open https://your-address/.well-known/assetlinks.json to see it. It must be reachable by anyone, so do not put Cloudflare Access or another sign-in in front of that one path.
  • Passkeys you already added on the website keep working. They belong to your site's address, not to the app.
  • The steps are in the Android guide under "Passkeys on the phone".

Good to know

  • Mail you read before updating may glow once in the app, because the app has no record of you opening it.
  • The Android app is attached to the release as Enveliq-v0.99.apk with a checksum. The app signs with the same key as before, so it installs over the last one.

Enveliq v0.98

@jlnau jlnau released this 20 Oct 01:12

Enveliq 0.98

Mostly the Android app: a big round of changes to the open email, the inbox list and sign-in. One change also touches the website.

Website and Android

  • "All emails" is now "Include read mail". It is a button in the same place (Inbox options on the website). Press it and a small box explains it ("Adds mail you've already read from the last 60 days. Summaries only when you ask.") with the switch inside. On Android it is an envelope button next to the tag button, and it stays on after the app is closed until you switch it off. Read mail shows "Summary not generated" with a Generate summary button.

Android app: the open email

  • Reply, Reply all and Forward are icons in one row directly under the AI summary, with a three-dot menu on the same row (Important person, Always archive these, Send to Junk, Block sender, Unsubscribe). A small Show original email button sits just below.
  • A bottom bar that is always visible: Bin, Archive, Reviewed, Tags, Remind me later and Add a task (icons only). Add a task opens a small popup with Today, Tomorrow, This weekend and Next week.
  • Choose who a reply goes to. Reply and Reply all show To, Cc and Bcc, start with the people the website would pick, and take several people as chips. New emails and forwards work the same way, with name suggestions from your contacts.
  • Tasks match the website. The task on an email has a three-dot menu (Move, Remove) and says when it is due: Today, Tomorrow, a weekday or date, or "Waiting since".
  • Tags show as a slim row under the sender, only when there are some.
  • Select and copy any text. Tap the sender's address for Copy.
  • Pinch to zoom pictures and PDFs, and it zooms where your fingers are. Double-tap to zoom in or go back.
  • "Open this link?" shows the whole address, not just the site.
  • The "Written by the AI" line under the summary is gone (the summary is still labelled "AI summary").

Android app: the inbox

  • Emails you haven't opened yet glow softly (a thin blue edge and a bold subject). Opening one clears it, here and on the website.
  • With Include read mail on, read mail that has no summary yet looks plain, with "No summary yet".
  • Tags show as small chips under each email in the list.
  • A notification bell on the top row next to search, with a red dot when something is new.
  • Back clears the filters (Reviewed, Archived, needs action, mailbox, tag) and shows the whole inbox. Back from the plain inbox leaves the app.

Android app: writing and signing in

  • Spell check works in the subject and message boxes: mistakes are underlined and a tap offers the fix.
  • A new sign-in screen with the real Enveliq logo and the form on one card. Sign in and Sign in with a passkey are fixed at the bottom, apart from each other, so it is clear which one submits your details.
  • The two-factor code box is marked as a one-time code, so Bitwarden can recognise it and the keyboard can offer to paste a copied code.

Fixed

  • The Tags button now says the real reason when tags can't be loaded, instead of always saying your mail service doesn't support them.

Privacy and security

  • Nothing new is stored. "Opened" is a record of which emails you have opened, kept encrypted per person, and it is not visible to anyone else.
  • Read mail added by Include read mail is the same encrypted header list as before; summaries are only written when you press Generate summary.

Good to know

  • Most of the Android changes have been built but not yet tried on a phone, so please look them over and tell me what looks off.
  • Passkeys on Android still open your browser. Using the phone's own passkey app (for example Bitwarden) directly is a possible later change.

Upgrading

Redeploy in Arcane as usual. Android: install the 0.98 APK over your current app.

Enveliq v0.97

Choose a tag to compare

@jlnau jlnau released this 19 Oct 14:28

Enveliq 0.97

Fixed

  • Passkey and single sign-on in the Android app. After pressing "Open the Enveliq app" in the browser, the app used to say "Something went wrong". It now signs you in.
  • Junk Mail no longer leaves a card behind for an email that has since been moved or deleted.
  • "Show the original email" now takes the full height of the email, instead of a small scrolling box.

New on the website and the app

  • Send later. Press Later beside Send on a new email, reply or forward and pick a time (up to 30 days ahead). Waiting emails are listed under Waiting to send, and you can take one back. They are kept encrypted and survive a restart. Files can't wait, because Enveliq never keeps attachments.
  • Files on replies and forwards. A forward keeps the original's files unless you untick them, and you can add more.
  • Send to Junk and Block sender, plus a new Mail rules action, "Send it to Junk". People on your important list are never blocked.
  • Find any email across all your mailboxes, including old email and Junk.
  • Your devices now appears on the website's Sign-in and security page too.
  • Download links for the Android app on the website, in Settings and in the app. The guides are updated, and the Android and Junk mail guides are now in the website menu.

Android app

  • Cleaner main screen. Top row: menu, Enveliq logo, search, and your picture or initials (tap it for Your account and Settings). The bottom tabs moved into the menu. A thin row under it has the Inbox / Reviewed / Archived filter and a second filter for needs action, mailbox and tags. Pull down to refresh.
  • Open email. The bottom bar uses symbols: tick (Reviewed), archive box, bin and clock (Remind me later).
  • Files and summaries. Each file now shows with the AI's summary, which was missing before. View opens PDFs, pictures, tables and text in the same viewer as the website.
  • Slower, clearer swipe. The row slides off, its symbol grows on the coloured bar, and the gap folds closed before Undo appears. A paperclip shows beside the time on emails with files.
  • Alerts for messages, notes and alerts, tasks due today and parcels to confirm. Each has its own switch in Settings, Notifications, off until you turn it on. They need the direct (not Google push) delivery mode.
  • Install updates inside the app. Settings, About, Install it downloads the new version through your own server, which checks it against its published checksum. Your phone never contacts GitHub, and Android still asks you to confirm.
  • Also new: Blocked senders in Settings, "Take care with this one" warnings, Unsubscribe from this sender, attach files and your signature on new email, picking an address from your contacts, mailto: links opening a new email, and an option to open the next email after you archive or review one.

Privacy and security

  • Waiting emails hold only your own words, encrypted, and are deleted once sent or taken back.
  • The new alerts name only the kind of thing (for example "New message"), never its words.
  • App updates are fetched by your server and checked before being passed on.

Upgrading

Redeploy in Arcane as usual. Android: install the 0.97 APK over your current app.

Enveliq 0.96

This is a big Android release. The app can now do most of what the website does, plus a few fixes to the website.

Android app

Reading and organising

  • Swipe an email right or left to Archive, Bin or mark it Reviewed. You choose each side in Settings.
  • Press and hold to select several emails, then act on them all together.
  • Search your inbox, and use Remind me later on an opened email.
  • Views for Inbox, Reviewed and Archived, with a filter for each mailbox.
  • Tags: add or remove several at once in a full-screen picker, and filter the inbox by tag with one Tags control.
  • Files with an email can be saved to your phone.
  • Links show where they really go and ask before opening.
  • Show the original email now displays the email as the sender formatted it, safely. No scripts run and no pictures load until you ask.
  • Mark unread brings a Reviewed email back to the inbox.

Writing

  • Reply, Reply all, Forward and New email.
  • Address suggestions as you type, and a From picker for your aliases.
  • Undo send, and a Drafts tab that matches the website's drafts.

Alerts and comfort

  • Choose what to be alerted about: all new email, only email that needs action, or only important people.
  • Alerts disappear straight away when you deal with an email elsewhere.
  • Optional Google push, the app lock, quiet hours and a button to hide the "watching" note.
  • Light, dark or follow the phone, a text size setting, and TalkBack actions.
  • Check connection on sign-in, and a short welcome the first time.
  • Settings is now a short list of topics, each with its own page.

Beyond email

  • Tasks shows your real task list, with Done, Move, Not today, Remove and Put back.
  • A new More tab with Notes and alerts, Messages, Shipping, Trips and calendar, and News feeds.
  • Share to Enveliq: share text from any app to start a new email.
  • A home-screen widget showing how many emails are waiting (the number only).
  • On a tablet, or a phone on its side, the inbox and the open email sit side by side.
  • The Back button returns to the inbox first.

Account

  • Sign in with a passkey or single sign-on through your browser.
  • Your devices lists where you are signed in and lets you sign one out.
  • Check for a new version tells you when a newer release is out and opens its download page.

Website fixes

  • Show original email now takes the full height of the email, so you scroll the window rather than a small box.
  • Junk Mail now removes an email that is no longer in the Junk folder when you try to open it or press Not Junk.

Good to know

  • The server must be on 0.96 for Mark unread, passkey and single sign-on, Your devices and the update check to work.
  • After single sign-on, the browser lands on the inbox. Return to the app and press the button again, and it finishes straight away.
  • Only emails you mark Reviewed from now on can be marked unread again.
  • The update check will say "newest version" until a release after 0.96 exists.
  • The app only talks to your own server. The phone never contacts GitHub, and nothing from your email is kept on it.

Enveliq v0.95

In short

Enveliq now has an Android app. It tells you when new email has been summarised, with no constant notification needed if you choose Google's push service. This version also adds Junk Mail, Google Calendar choices, and a number of improvements to searching and selecting email.

Before you update

Back up your Enveliq data folder first, as you would before any update.

Android app: install the new APK (Enveliq-v0.95.apk, attached to this release) and sign in with your Enveliq address, username and password. If you tried an early test build called app.enveliq.android, uninstall it first. The new app is app.enveliq.

Google Calendar: everyone who uses it will need to reconnect (Settings, Rules & calendar).

What's new

Android app

  • Sign in, read your inbox and summaries, and mark email Reviewed, Archived or Binned, with Undo.
  • Alerts when new email arrives, only after its AI summary is ready. Choose a light direct connection to your own server, or Google's push service for instant alerts with no "watching" note.
  • Tap an alert to open that email. Reviewed and Archive buttons on the alert. Alerts clear themselves when the email is no longer waiting.
  • Quiet hours, a fingerprint, face or PIN lock, pull down to refresh, and a Show button for the password.
  • Works with password managers such as Bitwarden, and with sites that keep only the /api path open behind Cloudflare Access.
  • Privacy: the app keeps no email on the phone. Google only ever sees "new mail" and a count, never who it is from or what it says.

Email

  • Show the original email in the reading panel.
  • Junk Mail.
  • Search all my mail: results appear in the list with Summarise Emails, and the search runs by itself once Fast search is ready.
  • Select all in the inbox list. Ticked emails stay ticked while an AI summary runs.
  • On a phone, the selection bar is calmer.
  • Tasks opens on the List view.

Google Calendar

  • Make a new calendar called "Enveliq tasks", or use one you already have.

In short

Settings is now one calm full-screen place with a single menu, and every Settings and Administration page has been tidied so it saves by itself and keeps long explanations out of the way. This version also adds searching your whole mailbox and a clearer, safer first install.

What's new

Settings and Administration

  • Settings is a full screen. The left panel becomes the Settings menu, the same panel you see in the inbox. Your own pages sit above a line and Administration sits below it. The separate Administration item in the account menu is gone, and only administrators see Administration.
  • While Settings is open, the search box says "Search settings" and finds settings pages. Enter opens the first match and Escape clears it.
  • On a phone, Settings opens as a list of big rows with its own search. Each page opens full screen with a Back button.
  • Every page is tidied: two columns where there is room, forms that save by themselves, and long guides folded behind "More about this" or "Show the steps".
  • General settings are three short columns with drop-down lists and a folded "What each one does".
  • Settings is now 7 pages and Administration is 6. Nothing was removed; older pages are sections inside the new ones.
  • A calmer Mailboxes page: each mailbox is a small card with Sync now and Edit.

Finding and reading email

  • Find any email: a new "Search all my mail" button searches every folder of a connected mailbox. Nothing found is stored.
  • Fast search (optional, off by default): a private encrypted word list that makes searching a very large mailbox instant. It is recommended for Proton Mail.
  • "View original email" shows the message as the sender made it, with a Plain text button always available. Scripts and forms are removed, and pictures from the internet wait for "Show pictures".
  • The View button on an attachment opens that file in the viewer.
  • Links show their complete address before you open them.
  • Emails without a summary are retried automatically, and their card always has a "Generate summary" button that says why.
  • Found a model? A new "Find models" button on the AI settings lists the models your AI server has (administrators only).

Smoother day to day

  • The inbox list and an open email stay where you scrolled them, including on a phone.
  • Hover buttons (Reviewed, Archive, Bin) also appear in the reading-pane layout.
  • The search box clears when you choose something from the menu.

Installing

  • A new install now needs a vault key, and the setup page explains how to make one.
  • The install is one page with a single copy-and-paste block. The install files read their settings from a .env file, so nothing needs editing.
  • Password managers such as Bitwarden can now fill the two-factor code.

Before you update

Press Redeploy in Arcane once "Publish images" shows a green tick. No settings need changing, and existing installs that use a vault passphrase keep working.
