Fix handwriting disappearing when submitting an answer.

The submission renderer now applies the same canvas transform as the on-screen pen canvas, including scaling and vertical cropping. Previously, some captures were blank or misplaced, causing grading to return not graded.

Original strokes in affected attempts are preserved. After updating, use Try again and Submit to recapture the saved handwriting; no rewriting is needed. Request recheck would reuse the old blank image.

A native rendering regression test verifies visible ink across cropped, multi-page submissions.

Foundations 0.7.0 adds AI grading for typed, handwritten, and photographed exercise responses.

• Submit an immutable, timestamped attempt; unsubmitted recovery drafts stay on the current device.
• Sync submitted responses, results, feedback, and attempt history across devices.
• Correct/incorrect styling, optional incorrect-answer feedback, retry drafts, and explained rechecks.
• Correct results prevent additional submissions unless a recheck overturns the result.
• Offline submission queue, durable grading jobs, and preservation of original handwriting and photographs.
• GLM 5.3 Flash through the private Foundations backend; no provider key is stored in the app.

Update both devices to 0.7.0. Existing saved work remains available and is not automatically submitted. Existing Cloud sync settings continue to work.

Downloaded answers now appear in an open exercise. Editing protects only the active answer format, so pen, typed answers, and photos can arrive independently. A quiet “Also saved” link makes other saved formats easy to find.

Also fixes stale fields overwriting downloaded work when changing modes or saving another format, stale ink undo history after remote updates, and misleading “Up to date” status when incoming changes are waiting for editing to finish. Already downloaded changes apply after editing ends even offline.

Update both devices, then use Settings → Cloud sync → Sync now. Existing answers and API keys are preserved.

Validated with two isolated Android stores against the real Go API, Android phone/tablet layouts in both orientations, failed-save recovery, typed draft/selection/undo rotation checks, release build and lint. No server migration is needed.

Foundations 0.6.1

Fix Settings closing when focusing the Cloud sync API-key field.

Settings now remains open when the keyboard hides or rearranges navigation, and partially entered keys survive rotation. The key field also disables keyboard autocorrection.

Verified with the software keyboard open on phone and tablet layouts, including typing and rotation. Existing answers, sync configuration, and the API key are unchanged.

Foundations 0.6.0 adds optional private cloud sync across your devices.

• Connect using the same API key in Settings → Cloud sync.
• Sync typed answers, handwriting, photos, quick checks, practice positions, reading bookmarks, and lesson tutorial preferences.
• Keep writing offline; changes sync automatically when a connection is available.
• Compare conflicting answer versions without losing either copy.
• Resume reading from another device when you choose.
• Input and pen settings remain specific to each device.

The Go/SQLite service runs at foundations.johncrowley.dev with weekly backups. Existing local answers and handwriting are preserved. No account registration is needed.

Install through the in-app update controls or download foundations.apk. If Chrome has trouble completing the APK download, download foundations-apk.zip, extract it, and open the APK.

Foundations 0.5.3

Tablet landscape now keeps the page outline visible on the right. The current section is highlighted as you read or work through its exercises, and tapping an entry jumps to that section. Portrait and narrow windows retain a compact outline menu.

Removed twelve redundant formula-and-text step-through figures, including all three in lesson one. The full worked explanations remain. The 39 retained figures show useful graph, set, mapping, counting, and growth structure.

Existing answers, handwriting, lesson identities, and reading anchors are preserved.

This update makes the learning content primary throughout the app: smaller exercise cards, quieter navigation, and one compact answer toolbar with pen settings available on demand.

Typing now has a distinct answer field and muted preview, a searchable symbol picker that inserts only the selected command, and improved keyboard positioning. Expanded typing and handwriting share consistent navigation. Finger sketching uses the handwriting workspace, and photos attach directly after camera confirmation.

Reference views, figures, settings, and phone layouts have also been refined. Existing answers and handwriting are preserved. Typing tutorials remain hidden by default.
