v1.1.0 — plugin packages
Install
nc-property-tax-bill.zip — Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin → Install → Activate. No other configuration needed. Full instructions in INSTALL.md at the root of the ZIP.
nc-property-tax-bill-mu.zip — only if plugin uploads are locked down. Extract into wp-content/mu-plugins/ so that ptx-loader.php and nc-property-tax-bill/ sit side by side. No activation required, and it will not appear in the Plugins list.
Requires WordPress 6.0+ and PHP 7.4+. No build step, no runtime dependencies, nothing written to the database.
After installing
Create a page at /property-tax-savings-calculator and add a Custom HTML block:
[ptx_bill heading_level="h2"]
Embedded in an article:
[ptx_bill layout="compact" heading_level="h2" show_header="no"]
Methodology page, if wanted:
[ptx_methodology]
Keep both pages as Draft until the plugin is active, or the shortcode renders as literal text to visitors. If anything caches pages in the meantime, purge those two afterwards.
Verifying
- The county dropdown lists 100 counties — this is the signal that the data file loaded.
- A $500,000 Mecklenburg parcel should show $2,462.91 paid, $2,240.27 could have paid, $222.65 saved,
OR 9% LOWER. - View source and search
<h1— there should be exactly one, the page title.
A note on editing
Please don't edit the plugin files directly. A test suite checks the calculation and the on-page methodology text against the published figures, so changes should come back to us. That's deliberate — it's what stops a copy edit quietly changing a published number.
If you have a Content-Security-Policy
The tool makes one cross-origin request to NC OneMap, and draws the receipt's torn edges with inline data: images. A strict policy would need:
connect-src 'self' https://services.nconemap.gov
img-src 'self' data:
Without them, searching fails silently and the receipt renders with square corners instead of the torn paper edge.
