Is This A Mimic(s)? v1.0.12 — a fix for placing controls

Choose a tag to compare

Is This A Mimic(s)? v1.0.12

  • Fix: placing a control by drawing a box could, in rare cases (the pointer lost mid-drag), leave the app not redrawing until it was reloaded. It now always lets go.
  • The guide has a Glossary: the name of every part of the app, with labelled pictures, so you can tell exactly what's what (and ask for exactly the right thing).

Settings → Version → Check for updates installs it.

Is This A Mimic(s)? v1.0.11 — panel sizes, drawing a box to place a control

Choose a tag to compare

Is This A Mimic(s)? v1.0.11

  • Panel sizes: a GM's panel is Phone (8 cells across, drawn at a phone's width: the size to show to players) or Desktop (24 across, as wide as your screen: your own controls). Your panels were converted and look as they did.
  • Place a control by drawing a box: in Edit mode a panel's grid is drawn as lines; drag a box over free cells and the new control is that size, or click a cell for one sized for its kind. On a phone, tap to place one.
  • Sockets: on a wide screen, drag a socket's item onto your inventory to take it.
  • At hand on a wide screen opens over the page, without moving anything.
  • Fix: while the GM had a panel's preview open, players' presses on a panel shown to them could be lost. They're now always real.

Is This A Mimic(s)? v1.0.10 — the At hand drawer, panel previews, how players see a panel

Choose a tag to compare

Is This A Mimic(s)? v1.0.10

  • The At hand drawer: up to five items you keep at hand, always a tap away, solo or in a party. Its tab (a star) in the middle of the top bar pulls out a drawer against the bar; on a phone it's a second bar above the bottom one. It stays out until you put it away, through other tabs and windows. On a trade or a shown panel, tap or drag a tile to put it in.
  • Preview a panel: Preview on a panel's card shows it as players will see it, and lets you try it: a practice run where its controls and rules work, and everything goes back when you close it. Sockets take test items from the catalog.
  • How players see a panel: choose whether players see labels, values, notes and hints, borders, colours, the cards behind controls, corners, text size, font, gaps and the panel's name. Each control can have its own. The eye on a panel's card shows it as players see it.
  • Style (CSS): your own CSS for a panel, kept inside it.
  • Socket items are tiles: tap one for its details, with Take it or Give it back.
  • Panels follow Play / Edit: Edit mode arranges your panels, Play mode uses them (the Arrange button is gone).

Settings → Version → Check for updates installs it.

Is This A Mimic(s)? v1.0.9 — shared screens, live trades, panels for players, sockets

Choose a tag to compare

Is This A Mimic(s)? v1.0.9

  • Shared screens (in a party): an item you show, treasure, a trade or a GM's panel opens for the others by itself. On a wide screen it docks beside the view, so the inventory stays usable; on a phone it fills the screen. Minimise it (—) and it waits in the Shared tray (the top bar's Shared button; chips above the tabs on a phone) until whoever shared it ends it.
  • Live trades: Trade opens a trade window you both see. Each side puts in what they give (drag from the inventory, + Add, coins, a note) and can Ask for… something of the other's. Any change clears both agreements; when you both Agree, it all changes hands at once. Walk away ends it for both.
  • Panels shown to players: Show to players… on a panel's card. Players use it as in Play mode: what they press, flip or drop comes to the GM's device, which sets the values and runs the controls' rules. The card shows who it's shown to, End, and what players did last.
  • Sockets: a new control that holds one item. Players drop an item in from their inventory and take it back; its rules can ask whether it holds something, which item it is, and how much it weighs (the golden idol trap). A socket can start holding an item, and ending the showing gives back what players put in.
  • At hand: Keep at hand bookmarks up to six items, shown as tiles along the bottom of a trade or a shown panel, to drop them in without leaving it.
  • The Items tab: Shops, Catalog (Edit mode) and Treasure (GMs) are now one tab. Old links still work.

Is This A Mimic(s)? v1.0.8

Choose a tag to compare

Is This A Mimic(s)? v1.0.8

  • Controls you can build puzzles with (GM → Controls → Panels):
    • A control is used: a new When for rules. Pressing a button, flipping a switch, letting go of a slider, picking from a dropdown, dropping a board's pin or touching a panel picture's hotspot can run rules (for one control, or every control on a panel). Rules can read the control's value, set Global values and open shops.
    • Buttons can set nothing and just run their rules (Ring the bell).
    • Controls follow values: Shown when and Locked when on a control (and Shown when on a panel), and values in words (The door is {door}). A rule shows, hides or locks a control by setting a value.
    • A Picture whose drawing has hotspots can be used on the panel.
    • Each control's editor lists its rules; the rule book has a Panels group.
  • Backgrounds for panels and controls: a picture or one of your drawings, with Fit and Fade.
  • Connections is a map: one thing in the middle, what changes it on the left, what it changes on the right, joined by wires that say why. Tap a box to move to it, a wire for its rule. The cog beside an item opens it centred on that item.
  • Fixes: removing a control or a panel takes its rules with it (rules left behind are marked won't run).

Settings → Version → Check for updates installs it.

Is This A Mimic(s)? v1.0.7

Is This A Mimic(s)? v1.0.7

  • The rule book (GM → Controls → Rules): every rule in the campaign, in words, grouped (the world, characters, items, drawings). Rules are built from blocks (When, If, Do, Say, Applies to) with + Add a block. A rule can apply to the world (run on the GM's device: set Global values, open or close a shop), a character, every item of a template, or one item; a more specific rule overrides a less specific one.
  • Item actions are rules: an item's buttons (Draw a card, Shake one out, Smash it) are made in its Rules tab, with ready-made ones under + Add a rule. They can take something out (at random, one you choose, everything), put things in, use some, show its details, or use another action. A hotspot of an item's drawing can run its rules or use one of its actions. (The container's old Actions field is gone; old actions need making again as rules.)
  • Take out of it → Where to: straight into the inventory, or into a window that shows what came out (Take one more, Put back, Keep), as drawing a card does, for any container.
  • Custom states from the item editor: + Add a state… → New state… makes a campaign state for that item, with who switches it (the player, or only the GM). Other items can be given it in their own editor.
  • Faster lists: the inventory draws about a fifth faster with hundreds of items.
  • Fix: a weapon's editor no longer gives it a Two-handed tab unless it's versatile.

Is This A Mimic(s)? v1.0.6

  • Play / Edit switch in the top bar: in the middle on a wide screen, on the right on a phone; words when there's room, icons when there isn't. It's the same setting as Settings → Mode.
  • Ability scores update as you type: STR and DEX in the Character panel change Armor Class and the load straight away, without leaving the field.
  • Fix: armor without its Dex rule set now counts Dex by its category (light all, medium up to +2, heavy none).

Is This A Mimic(s)? v1.0.5

  • Item visibility: the GM's item form has Visible to: Everyone or GM only. A GM-only item, and anything in it, isn't in players' lists (their inventory, search, Location menus, the party's member lists, selling); it still counts, and the GM sees it tagged GM only.
  • The coin purse is GM only: players open it from the coins in the character panel, as before; it's no longer in their inventory list. The GM can make it visible to everyone.

  • Updates from inside the app: Settings → Version → Check for updates. If there's a newer version:
    • Windows: Install and restart downloads it, checks it against GitHub's checksum, swaps it in and restarts the app.
    • Android: Download it; Android asks to install it over this one.
    • Browser: Reload.
Your data stays as it is. The app only asks GitHub when you press the button.
  • Versions before this one have no button: install 1.0.4 by hand once, and later versions can be installed from the app.

Is This A Mimic(s)? v1.0.3

  • Equipment panel (D&D 5e; was the Combat panel): your equipment slots at the top, a box each with how full it is and what's in it (tap a name for its details; red when over-full), then your attacks. Its header shows the slots while it's closed. The separate slots line above the inventory is gone.
  • Tile size: in tile view, the View menu has Small, Medium, Large and Extra large beside Layout, kept for each list.
  • Centred tiles: a row of tiles that isn't full sits in the middle of its container.
  • Fix: splitting coins from inside the open coin purse now updates the purse straight away.
