Experimental native Melee release for Linux x86-64 and Apple Silicon macOS, based on doldecomp/melee. No emulator is required. Supply your own Melee US 1.02 image (GALE01 revision 2); ISO, GCM, CISO and RVZ are supported. Disc images, extracted game assets and firmware are not included.

Downloads

  • Linux / Ubuntu: download Melee-Native-Linux-x86_64.tar.gz, extract it and run melee-native. Requires glibc 2.39+ (Ubuntu 24.04 or compatible), hardware Vulkan drivers and a desktop/audio session. Select your image, then choose No at the save prompt.
  • Arch / Omarchy: the .pkg.tar.zst is an installable pacman package. The source archive and checksum-filled PKGBUILD are also included. Installation and Hyprland/Wayland runtime have not yet been tested on Omarchy.
  • macOS: download the DMG and drag the app into Applications, or use the ZIP. Requires Apple Silicon and macOS 15.5+. The app is ad-hoc signed, not Apple-notarized.

Keyboard: WASD move, X attack/confirm, Z special/back, C/V jump, Q/E shield, R grab, IJKL C-stick, Return start/pause.

Validation and limits

Ubuntu ThinkPad testing covered 29 VS stages, 26 character entries and 35 common item kinds in short matches, plus Results/return, keyboard, audio, image selection and relocated-package launches. These checks do not certify every move, effect or mode. Saving remains incomplete.

Intel UHD620 achieved a median 59.55 FPS after initial samples; frame spikes remain. The ThinkPad's default MX150/NVK driver was slower, around 42 FPS. See Linux instructions and GPU selection.

Packages come from successful Linux CI and macOS CI at commit 4deee80ac. Linux passed 18 component tests; macOS passed 17. Local packaged gameplay checks also passed. The full matrix is documented against its own executable hash in the validation report.

SHA256SUMS.txt covers the downloads; platform manifests record individual app files. Third-party notices are included in each app. The Arch package and source archive retain their initial 0.1.0 package version. Both platforms are now developed on the shared main branch. This release remains pinned to its original tested commit.
