Screen Mark Desktop 0.4.6

Choose a tag to compare

@jordanpatten jordanpatten released this 26 Sep 11:56
2f19e0f

• After an update, What's new opens in the Menu-style Settings card instead of the old side panel.
• Scrollbars in Settings and What's new are thin, rounded, and match the editor's theme.

@jordanpatten jordanpatten released this 26 Sep 02:04
2f19e0f

Added

  • After an update, the first launch can open What's new in the Settings
panel with friendly highlights for every version since the last one you ran
(newest first). A fresh install only records the current version. An existing
install that never stored a last-seen version shows the current version only.
Notes are bundled from whats-new.json (offline, no network) and use the
reserved #view-whats-new slot — not a second window. Settings has Show
    what's new after updates
(on by default); the tray and panel can reopen it.
    (#32)
  • Editor bridge handshake for a Settings item in the web editor’s Menu
    (editor_supports_settings_menu, open_desktop_settings). Until the loaded
editor announces, the gear strip stays; after that the editor is full width.
    Contract: docs/editor-bridge.md.
    (#33)
  • The local Settings panel uses the screen-mark.com editor Menu look: 320px
card, Inter, the same dark/light colours, section labels, rows, switches,
and a 150ms fade/zoom. Tokens are bundled locally (not loaded from the site).
    (#33)
  • Pull request CI uploads an unsigned Windows NSIS test installer as a 7-day
Actions artifact (screen-mark-desktop-test-installer-<short sha>). It does
not use signing secrets and is not published.
    (#33)

Fixed

  • Esc cancels the region / pick-monitor / scroll-area overlay on the first
press even when another app had focus before the hotkey. The overlay page
only saw Esc when its webview was focused; after the single-window change
that often failed. An OS-level Esc watch now dismisses the overlay (scroll
    stitch Esc is unchanged).
    (#33)
  • Settings section spacing matches the editor Menu: 16px around dividers,
12px inside each section, and 8px from a label to its field. Save / Capture
now no longer sit on the next section rule, and the hotkey hint sits on its
own line under the key chips.
    (#33)
  • Settings Close (the X), Esc, and a click outside the Menu card dismiss the
panel, from the gear strip or open_desktop_settings. Close used to do
nothing: the handler called set_shell_panel(false), and Rust kept the panel
forced open until the editor had a page. A rejected close invoke is written
to the support log instead of being swallowed.
    (#33)

Changed

  • Screen Mark Desktop is a single window. The editor fills it; Settings is a
local right-edge panel (gear button or tray Settings), not a second window.
Opening or closing Settings does not reload the editor. The status notice lives
in the local panel / gear strip. Capture still hides the whole window.

Screen Mark Desktop 0.4.4

Choose a tag to compare

@jordanpatten jordanpatten released this 24 Sep 21:13
2f19e0f

Added

  • Scrolling-page capture can run in manual mode (you scroll; Done or Esc keeps a
partial stitch), show Done / Cancel controls on the page while stitching,
stitch sideways as well as down, and use a dedicated scroll hotkey
(default Ctrl+Alt+Shift+S) that repeats the last region when that display
has not changed. Settings now persist settle delay, wheel notches, and
    wheel-then-Page Down fallback. No OCR.
    (#30)

Fixed

  • Region and scrolling-page overlays show their dimmer and hairlines much sooner
after the hotkey. The display under the cursor is captured first (other displays
follow), the hide-wait is skipped when Settings and the editor are already hidden,
and the magnifier samples the frozen frame in memory instead of waiting for a
    second full-screen PNG over IPC.
    (#29)

Screen Mark Desktop 0.4.3

Choose a tag to compare

@jordanpatten jordanpatten released this 24 Sep 17:47
2f19e0f

Added

  • Scrolling page capture: choose it from the tray or as the default mode, then drag
the area of the page that scrolls. The app stitches the scrolling content into one
tall screenshot and opens the editor. Esc finishes with what has been captured so far.
    Desktop only.
    (#23)
  • Region capture (and scrolling page) draws a vertical and a horizontal hairline through the
cursor, so you can line a rectangle up with a table or object edge across the screen.
    (#26)

Fixed

  • Scrolling page capture stops on a short Esc tap after stitching has started (not only if Esc
is still held at a poll between 280 ms waits) and keeps the partial stitched image. A toast
repeats the Esc hint when Settings is hidden.
    (#27)

@jordanpatten jordanpatten released this 16 Sep 18:20

Added

  • Open editor at the top of Settings and as the first item in the tray menu, so you can
open the in-app editor without taking a screenshot.
    (#24)

Screen Mark Desktop 0.4.1

@jordanpatten jordanpatten released this 16 Sep 17:50
2f19e0f

Changed

  • After Export & Copy, minimize the editor is on by default, including for existing
installs that never saved the option. A saved off stays off.
    (#22)

Screen Mark Desktop 0.4.0

Choose a tag to compare

@jordanpatten jordanpatten released this 16 Sep 16:59
2f19e0f

Added

  • Region capture shows a pixel magnifier beside the cursor (zoomed grid, crosshair,
coordinates and hex colour), so you can line up edges on individual pixels.
    (#20)
  • After Export & Copy, minimize the editor in Settings (off by default). When it is on, a successful Export & Copy in the in-app editor minimizes that window so you can paste into the app you were using.
    (#19)

Changed

  • Hotkey capture still opens the in-app editor with the screenshot pasted.
Markup you make there is a privacy control: Export copies locally and is
not saved to ScreenMark cloud history. Extract Text and OCR are gone
    from the editor.
    (#18)

Screen Mark Desktop 0.3.0

Choose a tag to compare

@jordanpatten jordanpatten released this 16 Sep 00:44
2f19e0f

Added

  • Open logs folder in the settings window footer. A small local log (at most about
1 MB) records startup, hotkey, capture and editor problems for support. It never
contains images, window titles, clipboard contents, file paths or URLs.
    (#12)
  • A crash or a failed start shows a message and is written to the log, instead of the app
    silently disappearing. (#12)
  • The settings window footer links to screen-mark.com, and the capture hint shows the
hotkey you actually set and explains that closing the window keeps the app in the tray.
    (#12)
  • In-app updates: the app checks for a new version shortly after it starts and every 6 hours,
downloads it in the background, and shows Update ready in Settings, Restart to update
    to vX.Y.Z
in the tray menu and one notification. It installs only when you choose Restart
to update, and settings are kept.
    (#13)
  • Check for updates button in Settings and item in the tray menu, and a Check for updates
    automatically
option (on by default, including for existing installs).
    (#13)
  • Releases are built and published by GitHub Actions when a vX.Y.Z tag is pushed, to the
public jordanpatten/screen-mark-desktop-releases repo, with a stable
ScreenMarkDesktop-Setup.exe download link and optional Windows code signing.
    (#13)
  • Tray menu Open screen-mark.com and About Screen Mark Desktop vX.Y.Z (opens Settings).
    (#15)
  • Settings → About links to the privacy policy, release notes, screen-mark.com, support
    (info@screen-mark.com), and Open logs folder.
    (#15)

Changed

  • Settings is a small General / Updates / About window: the first-draft header, lasting
status banner, four capture buttons, Editor URL field, and developer image-handoff
section are gone. editorUrl stays in settings.json for development.
    (#15)
  • The Windows publisher is Patten Labs (0.2.0 showed jordanpatten from the bundle
identifier). NSIS still upgrades those installs: the uninstall key is the product name,
and installer hooks copy any stored path from HKCU\Software\jordanpatten\….
    (#15)
  • License is proprietary (All rights reserved, Patten Labs), including installer copyright.
    (#15)
  • The settings window follows the Windows light or dark app theme, shows a focus ring on
every control, and opens centered at a size that fits a 1366×768 screen.
    (#12)
  • A Content Security Policy limits the settings and capture overlay windows to the app's
own scripts and styles. The editor window is not affected.
    (#12)
  • The installer and the .exe file properties carry a copyright notice, and the Windows
    uninstall entry links to screen-mark.com.
    (#12)
  • A capture no longer reloads an editor that has already loaded, so unsaved annotations
survive. The app dispatches screen-mark-desktop-capture-ready and the editor pulls the
image with take_pending_capture; it only navigates when the window is on another page,
never loaded, or was left on an error page.
    (#11)
  • The automatic Ctrl+V is now a fallback: it is sent once, ~1.5 s later, only if the
editor has not taken the capture and the editor window is in the foreground, so it can no
    longer paste into another app.
    (#11)
  • npm run tauri build signs the updater artifact and needs the updater private key (see README
→ Release). npm run tauri:build:offline also renames the offline build's signature so it no
    longer replaces the normal installer's.
    (#13)
  • The default global hotkey is Ctrl+Alt+S. Existing settings.json files keep their saved
hotkey (Ctrl+Shift+S is often already taken on first launch).
    (#14)
  • settings.json is written to a temp file and renamed into place so a crash cannot leave a
    truncated file.
    (#14)

Fixed

  • Links in the settings window open in the default browser instead of replacing the
settings window with the website. (#12)
  • Pressing Esc in a region or monitor capture started from the hotkey or tray no longer
    opens the settings window. (#12)
  • An untaken capture is wiped from process memory after three minutes (and as soon as the
editor takes it), so PHI does not sit in RAM until Quit.
    (#14)
  • Launching without WebView2 shows one message and exits, instead of three runtime dialogs
and a lingering process with no windows.
    (#14)
  • After uninstall that keeps app data, then reinstall, Start with Windows is restored when
settings still say on (the uninstaller had deleted the Run value).
    (#14)
  • Dev builds no longer 404 favicon.ico.
    (#14)
