Dashboard

• new — an RSS widget beside Weather and Calendar in "What's happening around you?": the latest articles from the feeds a tile is given, one headline per row. Not the Feeds widget, which reports on feeds — Fresh (feeds.go) is a checker and deliberately keeps no titles — this one reads from them. Server-side (internal/app/widgets_rss.go), because a feed served without CORS headers cannot be read from the page at all; the RSS and Atom parsing is the shape sources_feeds.go already carries, so only the reading half is new (no import cursor, no bookmark rows). Feeds are named per widget rather than per install — two tiles following different subjects is the ordinary arrangement — through a new urlList settings kind: a textarea, one address per line, up to ten. It is its own kind because the tags box is one comma-separated line capped at 400 characters, and a comma is legal inside a URL. Each feed is cached per address for 15 minutes and shared by every tile that names it; the merged list is newest first, undated entries last. Rows are buttons carrying data-widget-href rather than anchors, which is what keyboard navigation stops on — arrow keys walk them, Ctrl/Cmd+Enter opens a new tab, and the row menu offers the same. A headline truncates to one line via the shared .dashboard-widget-row-name, with the whole entry — title, the feed's own summary, source and age — in the existing hover/focus popover (DashboardSmartWhyPopover), gone again on mouse-leave. What is past the row count folds into a "more" row that expands in place and remembers it, the way an expanded category does.

Languages

• new — Spanish (Español) as a sixth full language, in parity with the other five. locales/es.json carries all 6136 strings — the dashboard and its cheat sheet, the command palette, the onboarding and quick-start wizards, every config tab, the statistics, the health and inbox views, and all of Help's prose bodies — plus extension/locales/es.json for the browser extension. Wiring a language up touches more than the three places the old note named: availableLanguages and nameKeys in static/js/shared/config-language.js, the pickers in dashboard-config.js, search-commands.js and dashboard-quickstart.js, the noscript branch in templates/dashboard.html, EXT_SUPPORTED in extension/i18n.js, and the language lists in validate-locale-parity.cjs, validate-help-i18n.cjs and validate-cheatsheet-i18n.cjs. Verified against a running server: /locales/es.json serves, the page renders lang="es", and the grid comes up in Spanish.

Docs

• new — the manual, Help and the tips cover the RSS widget. MANUAL.md gains it in the "What's happening around you?" table (twenty types now, not nineteen), a paragraph on giving one tile several feed addresses, and a troubleshooting entry for an address that answers a web page rather than a feed. Help's widget catalogue and widget intro say the same in all six locales, and helpVersionBody names this release. A new tip points at the block from Config → Help → tips.
• new — the Custom widget's own reference is no longer English in German and French. The seventeen paragraphs under Config → Widgets → Types that explain what the Custom widget reads, stores and refuses had never been translated; a further eleven single strings in Dutch ("Open bookmark", "Tight columns", "Open Widgets →") were the same. npm run validate:locale-parity passes as it did before — parity was never the gap, English text sitting in a translated file was.
• Release plumbing for v1.7.1. New static/data/whats-new/v1.7.1.json with a Dashboard and a Languages section, entry added first in index.json, both tokens in whats-new-stub.js moved (DASHBOARD_RELEASE to 2026.09-dashboard-release-v1.7.1, NEXTDASH_WHATS_NEW_DATA_VERSION to whats-new-v281), two spotlight entries with since: "v1.7.1" in static/data/overview-features.json — the RSS widget and Spanish — for Config → Overview and About → News & features, and tests/whats-new-hidden-release.spec.js moved onto the new constants.
