v1.8 — new icon, ⌘⇧C shortcut, widget and window polish

Visual and usability polish.

Changed

• New app icon — a radar mark (green sweep, Claude-orange contacts) replacing the old generated ring. Design masters now live in design/.
• Global shortcut is now ⌘⇧C (was ⌘⇧U). If you had the shortcut enabled, toggle it off and on once from the menu to re-register.
• Medium widget now shows the reset countdown ("resets in 4h 12m") under the ring, matching the small and large sizes. Re-add the widget to pick up the new layout.
• Usage window opens at the right height. It now computes its height from the content instead of asking SwiftUI to measure it — both fittingSize and sizeThatFits over-report for this layout, which is why it kept opening too tall.

v1.7 — renamed to Claudar

The app is now Claudar (formerly "Claude Usage" / ClaudeUsageBar).

The old name was too close to the older, established claudeusagebar.com, so this renames everything: display name, bundle ID, and Homebrew cask. No feature changes.

Upgrading from an earlier version: the rename gives the app a new identity to macOS, so:

• If you used No-Prompt Mode, sign in once more (menu → No-Prompt Mode → Sign In) — the old saved session was under the previous name.
• Re-add the desktop widget from the widget gallery.
• Delete the old Claude Usage.app if you had it installed.

v1.6 — one-click No-Prompt Mode

Makes the no-prompt sign-in effortless.

New

• No-Prompt Mode is now one click. Menu → No-Prompt Mode → Sign In to claude.ai… opens a sign-in window; log in once and the app stops asking for your macOS password — no DevTools, no terminal, no cookie copying. Turn it off from the same menu to return to the CLI sign-in.

Background: the default mode reads the Claude Code CLI credential, which macOS re-prompts for every time the CLI renews its token (~8h). No-Prompt Mode stores a claude.ai session in a Keychain item the app owns, which never prompts.

v1.5 — optional no-prompt auth mode

Adds a way to stop the recurring Keychain password prompt.

New

• Optional claude.ai session-cookie mode. The default (Claude Code CLI) reads a Keychain item owned by another app, so macOS prompts for authorization — and that grant is wiped each time the CLI renews the token (~every 8 hours), so the prompt keeps coming back. The new mode reads a session cookie from a Keychain item this app owns, which never prompts. Setup is one command; see the README ("Mode 2 — claude.ai session cookie"). The CLI path remains the default when no cookie is set.
• Plan badge (Pro / Max / Team / Enterprise) now shows in cookie mode too.

Fixed

• The usage window could open far too tall on some setups; it now measures its content correctly and is capped at a sane height.

v1.3 — fewer Keychain prompts

Quality-of-life release focused on authentication.

New

• Fewer Keychain prompts. The app now caches the Claude Code token in its own Keychain item and reads from there, instead of reading Claude Code's item on every poll. Reading your own item never triggers an authorization prompt, so waking your Mac no longer asks for your password. Claude Code's item is touched only on first launch and when a token is rejected.
• Instant refresh on wake from sleep (the earlier delay is gone now that wake is prompt-free).

Since v1.2 also includes

• Live Claude service status in the menu and an incident dot on the ring.
• Configurable refresh interval (15 s – 2 min) and a global shortcut (⌘⇧U).

v1.1 — menu bar, widget, and usage window

What's in this download

ClaudeUsage-menubar.zip contains the menu bar + usage window build. Unzip and drag Claude Usage.app to /Applications.

It is ad-hoc signed, so macOS quarantines it on first open. Clear that once:

On first launch, click Always Allow when macOS asks for access to Claude Code-credentials — that token is what the app reads to fetch your usage.

The desktop widget is not in this download

Shipping the WidgetKit widget needs an App Group entitlement, which needs a provisioning profile from a paid Apple Developer account. A free Personal Team certificate is development-only and will not launch on another machine. So the widget requires building from source — free, but needs Xcode and a (free) Apple ID:
