Releases: jrs8205/Device-Watch

v1.3.0

Choose a tag to compare

@jrs8205 jrs8205 released this 05 Jul 11:56

What's new

  • Since-charge view: tap the battery card to see the period since the battery was last charged full — or since the charger was unplugged, when charging stopped short of full
    • Elapsed time, current level, battery used and average drain (%/h)
    • Screen unlocks, notifications and Wi-Fi/mobile data over the period
    • Per-app screen-time donut for the same window, matching the Apps tab
    • Android does not expose real per-app battery percentages to third-party apps, so the view shows honest usage numbers instead of invented ones
  • The period anchor is tracked from real battery events: reaching 100% while plugged in starts a new period; unplugging before full starts it at the unplug moment

Requires Android 8.0 (API 26). Signed with the same release key as previous versions — installs as a normal update.

v1.2.1

Choose a tag to compare

@jrs8205 jrs8205 released this 05 Jul 10:44

What's new

  • History page redesigned: the bar chart is gone — each metric now lists exact daily values (newest first) for the retained 62 days, with a Collected since note so short histories don't read as missing data
  • The history page now refreshes itself while open, so new notifications appear live (previously it loaded only once, which made the notifications metric look frozen)
  • Notification log entries are tappable: tap a row to open the app that posted the notification (rows show an open icon when the app is still installed)
  • The usage card now shows a clear History label instead of a bare chevron
  • App detail sheet shows real screen time and launch counts for home-screen launcher apps (previously zeros)

Requires Android 8.0 (API 26). Signed with the same release key as previous versions — installs as a normal update.

Device Watch 1.2.0

@jrs8205 jrs8205 released this 04 Jul 19:13

What's new in 1.2.0

History page

Tap the usage card on the Overview tab to open the new History page:

  • Daily bar charts for the last 62 days — screen time, unlocks, notifications, restarts and charges. Tap a bar to see that day's value.
  • Notification log: real notifications (app, time, title and text) are kept on the device for 7 days and listed under the charts. Nothing ever leaves your phone.

Improvements

  • Home-screen launchers are no longer counted in usage rankings (screen-time donut, most-opened list) — every trip to the home screen used to inflate them.
  • The persistent service notification is now minimal, silent and hidden from the lock screen.
  • The widget footer got breathing room so the updated time never clips.

Fixes

  • Battery time-remaining no longer shows absurd values (e.g. ~7000 h) on devices that report battery current in mA instead of µA (seen on Samsung).
  • The Settings app is no longer accidentally excluded from usage rankings.

Device Watch 1.1.1

@jrs8205 jrs8205 released this 04 Jul 10:26

Fixed

  • Daily screen time could be wildly inflated (60+ hours) on devices that skip the ACTIVITY_PAUSED usage event and only emit ACTIVITY_STOPPED (seen on a Pixel 10 Pro): sessions never closed and kept accumulating. Foreground sessions are now tracked per activity, ACTIVITY_STOPPED also ends them, and turning the screen off force-closes every open session. Today's stored value corrects itself on the first refresh after updating.

Requires Android 8.0 (API 26). Signed with the same key as previous releases, so it installs as a normal update.

@jrs8205 jrs8205 released this 04 Jul 10:04

Highlights

  • Tabbed dashboard: Overview, Apps, Device and Settings behind a Material 3 bottom bar
  • Data counters per calendar day or per one-month billing cycle with a selectable start day (1–31); the choice applies to the widget and the in-app data rows
  • Tapping the widget anywhere now opens the app
  • Apps tab: Digital-Wellbeing-style screen-time donut with per-app detail sheet, top data consumers today, most-opened-today list, and a last-opened list with in-place uninstall
  • Last-opened rows show the clock time for apps used today (system 12/24-hour setting) and highlight stale apps: amber after 1 month unused, red after 3 months or never used
  • Usage counters on the Overview tab follow the same day/cycle period: screen time, screen unlocks, a filtered notification count (ongoing notifications, group summaries and updates are not counted), device restarts and charging sessions — backed by the app's own 62-day daily history
  • Today's screen time in the widget footer, refreshed about once a minute
  • Optional notification-access listener powers the notification counter; counting starts when access is granted
  • Privacy dashboard shortcut and green/red status dots for the special-access permissions
  • Overview now mirrors everything the widget shows, including CPU load and storage bars

Requires Android 8.0 (API 26). Signed with the same key as previous releases, so it installs as a normal update.

Device Watch 1.0.7

Choose a tag to compare

@jrs8205 jrs8205 released this 03 Jul 14:15
  • The screensaver shows live charging power in watts next to the voltage and temperature (hidden when the device does not report a usable reading).
  • The next alarm is shown under the date on the screensaver.
  • New battery-level-tinted background gradient with a softly pulsing charge indicator; the gradient mirrors together with the 180° layout swap so the glow stays at the bottom of what you see.
  • New "Dim at night" option: the screensaver dims automatically on a configurable schedule (default 22:00–07:00), even while it is already running.
  • The screensaver seconds tick is now aligned to the wall clock.

Device Watch 1.0.6

@jrs8205 jrs8205 released this 03 Jul 13:39
  • Today's mobile and Wi-Fi data usage is shown in megabytes when under 1 GB, so small real usage no longer looks like a stuck "0.0 GB".
  • New widget layout: a 2x2 metric grid plus a full-width Wi-Fi row with network name, band, link speeds and today's usage. Grid rows now share the height equally, so the bottom of the widget can no longer get clipped. The battery health tile was removed (battery details remain in the app).
  • The screensaver clock follows the device's 12/24-hour setting and shows an AM/PM marker in 12-hour mode.

Device Watch 1.0.5

@jrs8205 jrs8205 released this 01 Jul 09:05
  • Fixed the battery-full notification and the widget opacity text that showed a doubled percent sign ("100%%").
  • Added an optional "Dim the screensaver" setting for overnight charging.
  • Added a screensaver preview image shown in the system screensaver picker.
  • Added an "Open screensaver settings" shortcut plus a hint explaining that the screensaver runs while the device is charging (and that Always On Display may need to be turned off on some phones).

Device Watch v1.0.4

Choose a tag to compare

@jrs8205 jrs8205 released this 30 Jun 08:04

What's new

  • Wi-Fi: the dashboard's Wi-Fi section now shows the actual network name (SSID) instead of just "Wi-Fi connected". (The home-screen widget keeps the compact label, since a full SSID doesn't fit the tile.)
  • Requires the location permission and location services to be enabled, as Android only reveals the connected SSID under those conditions.

Device Watch v1.0.3

Choose a tag to compare

@jrs8205 jrs8205 released this 30 Jun 07:50

  • The "battery full" time estimate no longer drifts later over time — it now shows a stable, correct estimated full time.
  • The clock auto-sizes to the screen, so the seconds no longer overlap on narrower phones.
  • New setting: force the screensaver to portrait orientation (Settings → Screensaver).

Dashboard — new device information (all readable without root)

  • Device: manufacturer, model, Android version & security patch, bootloader, baseband, chipset (SoC), ABIs, kernel, GPU & OpenGL, screen resolution/density/size, refresh rate, HDR, RAM, storage, battery type & capacity.
