Release list
Superherdr 0.9.5.1
Superherdr 0.9.5.1
Based on Herdr 0.9.5. Upstream's 0.9.4 and 0.9.5 release bodies are ported into the inherited sections at the end of this file.
Added
herdr plugin updateupdates plugins installed from GitHub, all at once or by name. Running plugin panes keep working on their old files, and locally linked plugins are left alone. (#4245)
Changed
- Focus, Snooze, and the Top-level Agents view continue to work across the upstream input and sidebar overhaul, including the worktree-group rendering fix that keeps repository parents out of worktree children, merged with Superherdr's Focus and Snooze visibility rules.
- On Linux and macOS, closing the shell that started the server no longer stops the server. Scripts that stopped Herdr with
SIGHUPshould useherdr server stoporSIGTERM. (#4920, #4965) - Closing a workspace's last pane now asks for confirmation. Disable it with
ui.confirm_close = false. (#5143) - With mouse capture on, plugins that handle a link get first pick when you click it. Turn capture off to use your terminal's own link shortcuts, like Command-click on macOS. (#4874, #5064)
- The Codex integration no longer installs turn hooks, and Codex status comes from screen detection again. Run
herdr integration install codexto update. (#5246, #5278)
Fixed
- Prefix shortcuts work again when the terminal sends the next key as plain text. This affected Tern, Chinese, Japanese and Korean input methods on macOS, and Ghostty
text:keybinds that send the prefix and a key together. Workspace navigation had the same problem. (#5255) - Claude Code questions show as blocked in named sessions. (#4573, #5192)
- Restarts and shutdowns preserve agent sessions through pre-shutdown saves, and session saves are written to disk before replacing the old file, so an interrupted save cannot corrupt them. (#4414, #5150)
- Ctrl+Z suspend followed by
fgkeeps the agent name and the saved conversation. (#1647) - Ctrl shortcuts work on non-Latin keyboard layouts such as Russian, Greek, and Hebrew. (#1079, #4961)
- Session restore stays responsive with slow or missing Git data, worktree groups survive unavailable checkouts, and nested duplicate workspaces no longer appear. (#4926, #4736, #4945)
- Out-of-range workspace numbers return
workspace_not_foundinstead of crashing. (#5096) - The server survives process and thread exhaustion instead of killing all panes. (#3324)
- Forwarded SSH agents are no longer polled every second, which broke SSH and Git auth over time. (#4931, #4962)
- Sidebar width, collapsed groups, and agent sorting survive reconnects. (#4364, #5019, #4536)
- Typing appears faster, notably in PowerShell, with lower CPU for busy agents and idle shells and less memory for hidden panes. (#5149, #4506, #5083)
- macOS
pane runandagent startreject over-long commands during shell startup instead of silently truncating them. (#4950, #4988)
Superherdr 0.9.3.1
[0.9.3.1] - Unreleased
Based on Herdr 0.9.3. Upstream's 0.9.2 and 0.9.3 release bodies are ported into the inherited sections at the end of this file.
Added
- The global menu's "what's new" entry is now always available and opens the full merged release history: released Superherdr sections first, then the inherited Herdr sections, rendered from this changelog with no network or filesystem access. Startup, product announcements, and update-preview behavior are unchanged.
Changed
- Focus, Snooze, and the Top-level Agents view continue to work across the upstream changes, including the new aggregate-navigation indexing and plugin
min_herdr_versionvalidation against the real Herdr version (the fork's pinnedHERDR_PLUGIN_COMPATIBILITY_VERSIONconstant is gone, matching upstream). - Upstream's release, preview, website, and Windows cross-compile tooling remains excluded from the fork as before.
[0.9.1.2] - 2026-09-21
Changed
- Focus now clears automatically when navigation leaves the focused context: creating a workspace with the keyboard shortcut, focusing work through the CLI or another client, switching machines, or closing the focused workspace all restore the full sidebar, and a scope whose target closed or whose server rebooted clears on the next snapshot. Snooze-driven hiding still keeps Focus.
- While Focus is active, machines other than the focused one hide from the sidebar; their agents were already hidden. Clearing Focus brings them back.
Superherdr 0.9.1.2
Superherdr is a terminal runtime for coding agents built on Herdr 0.9.1, adding Focus, shared Snooze, and the All / Top-level Agents view. It installs and runs as the herdr command and is a drop-in replacement for Herdr.
What's new in Superherdr 0.9.1.2
- Focus clears automatically when navigation leaves the focused context. Creating a workspace with the keyboard shortcut, focusing work through the CLI or another client, switching machines, or closing the focused workspace now restores the full sidebar instead of leaving it filtered to the old scope. A scope whose target closed or whose server rebooted clears on the next snapshot.
- Focus now hides other machines. While a project or workspace is focused, the sidebar shows only the focused machine's scoped rows; other connected machines (and their status icons) stay out of the way until Focus is cleared. Their agents were already hidden.
- Snooze-driven hiding is unchanged, and explicit Focus clears work as before.
What Superherdr adds
- Focus shows the project or workspace selected by each client; other clients keep their own Focus.
- Snooze hides a project or workspace on every client until its wake time, without stopping its terminals. Snooze never stops processes, mutes notices, or acknowledges requests.
- All / Top-level Agents hides linked-worktree agents when their parent exists on the same endpoint.
What is inherited from Herdr 0.9.1
Saved-machine CLI control (herdr --machine), cursor-aware text editing and word-wise selection, Ctrl-click link highlighting, per-machine workspace navigation with collapsed groups, SSH bandwidth and idle-CPU reductions, and the full list in Herdr's 0.9.1 release notes.
Drop-in Herdr
Superherdr installs one command, herdr, and uses Herdr's configuration, state, plugins, integrations, and sessions (~/.config/herdr, ~/.local/state/herdr), so switching from Herdr keeps everything. Separate setups are opt-in through HERDR_CONFIG_PATH, XDG_CONFIG_HOME/XDG_STATE_HOME, or --session <name>.
herdr --version prints herdr 0.9.1 (superherdr 0.9.1.2), so scripts and checks that match the Herdr base version keep working. herdr status client --json reports "version": "0.9.1" and adds "superherdr_version": "0.9.1.2".
Restart your running session after upgrading so the server picks up the new binary — until then, herdr status server --json reports "server_binary_stale": true.
Binary self-update is disabled. Superherdr does not read Herdr update manifests. Existing plugins keep the Herdr 0.9.0 compatibility level.
Install
macOS Apple Silicon (Homebrew):
brew install jsonmartin/tap/superherdrThe tap formula conflicts with the original herdr formula, because both install a herdr binary; run brew unlink herdr first if it is linked. Unlinking preserves your original installation so it can be relinked later.
Linux x86_64 and macOS Apple Silicon (shell installer):
curl -fsSL https://github.com/jsonMartin/superherdr/releases/download/superherdr-v0.9.1.2/install.sh -o install-superherdr.sh
sh install-superherdr.shThe installer downloads the archive from this release over HTTPS and verifies it against SHA256SUMS before extracting, installs one herdr file into ~/.local/bin (override with SUPERHERDR_INSTALL_DIR) and the licenses into ${XDG_DATA_HOME:-~/.local/share}/superherdr/licenses, needs no root, and refuses to replace any herdr it did not install, including upstream Herdr.
Update with brew upgrade jsonmartin/tap/superherdr or by rerunning the shell installer. Binary self-update is disabled.

macOS 13+ Apple Silicon | macOS Apple Silicon GitHub runner (version string, stable build channel, status JSON) |
superherdr-0.9.1.2-linux-x86_64.tar.gz |
Linux x86_64, static musl binary | Ubuntu x86_64, GitHub Actions (static-link check, version string, stable build channel) |
superherdr-0.9.1.2.arm64_golden_gate.bottle.tar.gz |
Homebrew bottle | assembled from the macOS release binary, not produced by brew bottle |
The macOS binary declares a macOS 13.0 minimum but has been exercised only in CI and on an Apple Silicon host; SSH remote attach has not been exercised. The Linux binary is statically linked with musl — no program interpreter, no shared-library dependencies, no glibc symbol versions. There are no Linux ARM64, Intel macOS, Windows, or Android/Termux builds; the installer refuses those targets with a message. Each archive contains herdr, LICENSE, and licenses/, and SHA256SUMS lists every asset.
Provenance
Release commit: a0963cdb (main at release time). Both binaries were built from that commit with the repository-pinned Rust 1.96.1 toolchain, Zig 0.16.0 for the vendored libghostty-vt, --locked dependencies, and HERDR_BUILD_CHANNEL=stable: Linux by the Build Linux release workflow (run 35794516362), and macOS by the Build macOS release workflow (run 35794514114). Superherdr 0.9.0.1
Superherdr is a terminal runtime for coding agents built on Herdr 0.9.0, adding Focus, shared Snooze, and the All / Top-level Agents view. It installs and runs as the herdr command and is a drop-in replacement for Herdr.
Standalone and orphan agents stay visible.
Drop-in Herdr
Superherdr installs one command, herdr, and uses Herdr's configuration, state, plugins, integrations, and sessions (~/.config/herdr, ~/.local/state/herdr), so switching from Herdr keeps everything. Separate setups are opt-in through HERDR_CONFIG_PATH, XDG_CONFIG_HOME/XDG_STATE_HOME, or --session <name>.
herdr --version prints herdr 0.9.0 (superherdr 0.9.0.1), so scripts and checks that match the Herdr base version keep working. herdr status client --json reports "version": "0.9.0" and adds "superherdr_version": "0.9.0.1".
A Superherdr 0.1.0 installation is upgraded in place: the installer replaces the binary as herdr and removes the old superherdr command. The old ~/.config/superherdr state is not read and is not migrated; Herdr configuration and sessions are used instead.
Binary self-update is disabled. Superherdr does not read Herdr update manifests.
Install
macOS Apple Silicon (Homebrew):
brew install jsonmartin/tap/superherdrThe tap formula conflicts with the original herdr formula, because both install a herdr binary; run brew unlink herdr first if it is linked. Unlinking preserves your original installation so it can be relinked later.
Linux x86_64 and macOS Apple Silicon (shell installer):
curl -fsSL https://github.com/jsonMartin/superherdr/releases/download/superherdr-v0.9.0.1/install.sh -o install-superherdr.sh
sh install-superherdr.shThe installer downloads the archive from this release over HTTPS and verifies it against SHA256SUMS before extracting, installs one herdr file into ~/.local/bin (override with SUPERHERDR_INSTALL_DIR) and the licenses into ${XDG_DATA_HOME:-~/.local/share}/superherdr/licenses, needs no root, and refuses to replace any herdr it did not install, including upstream Herdr.
Arch Linux (AUR, package superherdr-bin):
paru -S superherdr-binor build it with makepkg -si from https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/superherdr-bin. The package installs /usr/bin/herdr plus the licenses and provides and conflicts with herdr.
Update with brew upgrade jsonmartin/tap/superherdr, by rerunning the shell installer, or through the AUR helper. Binary self-update is disabled.

Provenance
Release commit: 17046a120026f052f248dbe8394a318ea10dedb1. Both binaries were built from that commit with the repository-pinned Rust 1.96.1 toolchain: Linux by the Build Linux release workflow (run 35031674028), and macOS on an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 27, linked against the macOS 26.5 SDK with Homebrew zig@0.15 (Zig 0.15.2) for the vendored libghostty-vt. Both builds used --locked dependencies and HERDR_BUILD_CHANNEL=stable. See SHA256SUMS for checksums and the build notes for build details.
