Using input remapper alongside kanata to remap mouse keys makes everything freeze

I have a mouse that has extra keys I want to remap, in devices tab regular mouse or keyboard does not record keys since it seems kanata grabs both mouse and a keyboard making settings fail to apply, but if I choose "kanata" device I am able to receive input from mouse or keyboard, but once I apply settings everything freezes up. I know I should probably ask on "input-remapper" github but wanted to check if there's anything that can be done on kanata's side. Are there an alternative way to remap mouse keys so it works with kanata?

Is it possible for kanata to not grab the mouse input device and leave it available for the remapper?

You can specify devices to include it exclude via defcfg
