Storage format 2: update every device together

This release changes the format of a WebDAV or folder storage (#288). CalDAV is not affected.

  • The first device with 0.5.0 that syncs moves the storage to format 2: it rewrites lists/v1/vault.json and from then on writes compressed snapshots. Nothing else in the storage is rewritten, and the files written by earlier versions stay readable.
  • Lists 0.4.0 and earlier cannot sync with a format 2 storage. They stop with "the storage uses format 2, this version understands format 1; update the app". Work on the device goes on, and changes made meanwhile are sent after the update.
  • Update the Mac, the Android phone and the web server (ghcr.io/juev/lists:0.5.0) at about the same time. An earlier version cannot be used with the storage again once it has moved.

Also in this release:

  • A snapshot of the change log is written when the log since the last snapshot outweighs it, not after 64 files. Snapshots are stored gzip-compressed, about 7 times smaller.
  • Attachment content that nothing needs any more is deleted from the devices and from the storage: after the task is deleted for good (Empty Trash, clearing Completed) or the attachment is removed. A task in the Trash keeps its files.
  • Completing a repeating task can be undone, and the setting for completed tasks applies to repeating tasks as well (#287).

Install

  • macOS (Apple silicon, macOS 14 or newer): open Lists-0.5.0-macos-arm64.dmg and drag Lists to Applications.
  • Android (8.0 or newer, arm64): install Lists-0.5.0-android.apk.
  • Web: docker pull ghcr.io/juev/lists:0.5.0 (amd64 and arm64).

The macOS build of this release is not signed with a Developer ID and not notarized. macOS refuses to open it until the quarantine flag is removed: xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Lists.app. The share extension does not work in this build.
