Settings

Open Folderglass to find two new sections.

Preview

  • Show hidden files: dotfiles and hidden items now count toward files, folders and the lists, not just the total size.
  • Open on tab: start every preview on Contents, Largest, Recent, README or Images, or keep the automatic choice.
  • Stop counting after: 5, 15 or 30 seconds for very big folders. A shorter limit puts less load on your Mac.
  • Count only the top level on network drives: on by default, so pressing Space on a NAS folder doesn't crawl the whole share.

General

  • Check for updates when Folderglass opens, plus a Check for Updates button. If you installed with Homebrew, it gives you the brew upgrade folderglass command instead of a download.
  • Reset Quick Look: registers the extension again and clears Quick Look's cache. Use it when previews stop showing up.

Privacy

The Quick Look extension still never uses the network. Only the app contacts GitHub to look for a newer version, when you open it or click Check for Updates, and you can turn that off.

Install

Download: grab Folderglass.dmg, open it, drag Folderglass into Applications and open it once. Signed and notarized.

Homebrew (builds on your Mac):

brew install justadityaraj/tap/folderglass

Foldout is now Folderglass

Same app, new name. Another Mac app already uses the name Foldout, so this one moves to its own name before it reaches more people.

  • Homebrew users: brew upgrade moves you to Folderglass automatically. Open Folderglass once afterwards.
  • DMG users: drag Foldout to the Trash, then install Folderglass from the file below.
  • Folderglass switches the old Foldout extension off the first time it opens, so the two never compete for folders.

The app is signed with a Developer ID certificate and notarized by Apple. No feature changes since 0.1.3.

Released as Foldout, the app's old name. It was renamed to Folderglass in 0.2.0.

Signed and notarized

The download now opens like any other Mac app. There's no more "Foldout.app Not Opened" block and no trip to System Settings. macOS only asks you to confirm an app downloaded from the internet.

The app and its Quick Look extension are signed with a Developer ID certificate and notarized by Apple. The certificate belongs to the Apple developer account of Swagloop Ventures Private Limited, a company I'm a director of. Foldout is still my personal, MIT-licensed project. The README's Signing section has the details.

No feature changes since 0.1.2.

Install

Download: grab Foldout.dmg, open it, drag Foldout into Applications and open it once.

Released as Foldout, the app's old name. It was renamed to Folderglass in 0.2.0.

Faster, lighter previews.

  • Switching tabs is about twice as fast inside Quick Look (23-37 ms, down from 50-107 ms). The tables are now a lightweight list with the same columns and click-to-sort headers.
  • The Images tab keeps decoded thumbnails, so going back to it is instant.
  • Live scan updates are less frequent, and scans run at a lower priority so big folders never compete with what you are doing.

Upgrade with brew upgrade foldout, or download Foldout.dmg below.

Released as Foldout, the app's old name. It was renamed to Folderglass in 0.2.0.

Bug-fix release.

  • Malformed .git data (index, pack index, pack headers, reflog) and broken zip64 archives no longer crash the preview
  • Folders with huge numbers of top-level items stay responsive; the Contents tab shows the 500 largest and says how many there are
  • Previewing / shows full paths in Largest and Recent
  • README text with <generics>, <https://…> autolinks or a < b comparisons renders correctly
  • A touched file too big to hash no longer counts as modified in the git card
  • Never triggers a Photos or Music privacy prompt: those libraries are skipped

Install with brew install justadityaraj/tap/folderglass (or brew upgrade foldout), or download Foldout.dmg below.
