QuickView v6.31.0.0 - Faster TIFF, Built-in Print Preview, Windows 11 Look & Smarter Controls

Release Date: 2026-08-14

Please note: This is a stable release that incorporates selected features and improvements tested in previous pre-releases; however, it remains behind the latest pre-release branch.

This release introduces version rollback support, allowing you to switch update channels at any time to try different builds.

🖼️ Huge TIFF Files Open Faster, and More Formats Look Right

Opening large TIFF files used to feel slow. This version uses a new built-in TIFF reader (no extra library, so the app stays small).

  • Much faster TIFF: In our tests, a 12.8-megapixel TIFF dropped from about 1.9 seconds to 360 milliseconds.
  • Giant 16-bit TIFF: Very large 16-bit TIFF files now load and display correctly.
  • CMYK TIFF: Print-oriented CMYK TIFF files show the right colors instead of looking wrong or failing to open.
  • Huge images stay complete: When you zoom into extremely large photos, tiles no longer go missing and the app no longer keeps the CPU busy for no reason.

If a rare TIFF still looks wrong, please report it — the custom reader is built for speed and size, and we want to hear about any odd files.

🖨️ Print With a Real Preview

The old Windows Photo Printing Wizard is gone.

  • Our own print window: See the page before you print, including a live grayscale preview.
  • Poster / tiling: Print one photo across several pages when you need a large print.
  • Remembers your choices: Paper size, orientation, and printer options are kept for next time.

🪟 A More Native Windows 11 Look

  • Mica menus and window: On Windows 11, the main window and right-click menus can use the system Mica material so they match the rest of the desktop.
  • Windows 10 is still supported: Older Windows keeps a compatible look. Acrylic is still available if you prefer it.

🎞️ Gallery and Filmstrip, Your Way

  • Drag to resize: Pull the filmstrip edge to make the thumbnail bar taller or shorter.
  • When it appears: You can now adjust how close the mouse must be, how long to hover, and how long it waits before hiding.
  • Stay open while you browse: New option to keep the gallery visible after you click a thumbnail.
  • Slideshow crash fixed: Slideshow mode no longer crashes after certain display resets.
  • Cleaner bar: Slimmer arrows, tighter margins, and a smaller pin button.

🗺️ Minimap and Zoom That Match the Photo

  • Show the minimap with M: Wake it up from the keyboard whenever you need a map of a zoomed image.
  • Scroll on the map to pan: Hover the minimap and use the mouse wheel to move around.
  • Very long or very wide photos: Clicking and dragging on the map now lands on the right place.
  • True 100%: 100% zoom uses the photo’s real pixel size, so it matches what you expect.
  • Locked window, still works: Fit and 100% shortcuts work correctly when the window size is locked.
  • Fullscreen and pixel-art: Fullscreen zoom no longer jumps to the wrong size, and pixel-art mode stays sharp.
  • Small SVG files: Tiny SVG graphics now fit the window instead of appearing too small or too large.

⚙️ Settings You Can Save, and Shortcuts That Do What You Mean

  • Import / export settings: Back up your configuration, or copy it to another PC, from Settings.
  • Switch back to Stable: If you tried the Pre-release update channel, you can now switch back to Stable without getting stuck.
  • Show or hide OSD tips: Turn those on-screen messages off if you prefer a quieter view.
  • Show in Explorer: New shortcut to jump to the current file in File Explorer.
  • Choose what double-click does: Keep the smart Fit / 100% / original-size cycle, or use double-click to swap wheel actions or switch to pan mode.
  • Larger keyboard pan steps: The pan-distance sliders now go higher if you like bigger jumps.
  • Your color for overflow edges: Pick the color of the indicators that show when the image is larger than the window.
  • Locked window stays locked: A smart double-click will no longer resize the window when window lock is on.

🔍 Compare, Focus, and File Explorer

  • Cleaner compare view: Side-by-side compare no longer draws overflow edges, and the selection highlight is easier to see.
  • Focus goes back to your last app: Closing QuickView returns the keyboard to the program you came from (Explorer, a browser, another viewer, and so on).
  • Same order as Explorer: The gallery follows the folder’s current sort in File Explorer.

🐛 Fixes You’ll Notice

  • HDR Pro expands again: In the full info panel (and in compare), the HDR Pro row once more opens the extra HDR details.
  • Settings clicks work: Sliders, buttons, and dropdowns in Settings hit the right control again.
  • OSD looks right: On-screen tips are no longer stuck fully opaque.
  • No more jumping window: Changing UI scale no longer clips the interface or makes the window jump.
  • Opening another file: Starting a new image no longer leaves the previous program in the wrong focus state.

🌐 Translations and Formats

  • Japanese text: Clearer About page and labels. Thank you, @coolvitto (#227).
  • JPEG XL: Updated the JXL engine for better transparency and more reliable viewing of large JXL files.
