CodeDB 0.2.5855 reduces macOS watcher CPU use, adds experimental lazy MCP startup, and improves update failure handling.

  • Quieter file watching: fixes sustained CPU use when unrelated files churn in repositories beyond the watch budget (#748). Native events are coalesced while periodic content checks continue to catch same-metadata rewrites. The recorded stress fixture used about 76% less CPU during churn; quiet CPU was broadly unchanged.
  • Optional lazy MCP startup: set CODEDB_LAZY_MCP=1 to keep an unused default project idle until its first code request (#747). Eager startup remains the default. See the MCP guide.
  • Safer update resolution: stale automatic metadata now produces a clear error instead of looking like an explicit downgrade. Fallback release lookup fails without caching a fabricated old version (#742, #745).
  • A refreshed README: task-oriented navigation and Codegraff illustrations that match light and dark mode.

Both macOS downloads were built locally with Zig 0.17.0-dev.813+2153f8143, signed with Developer ID and hardened runtime, and accepted by Apple notarization. ARM64 and Intel macOS binaries, Linux ARM64/x86_64 binaries, and a Windows x86_64 binary are included; checksums.sha256 covers the final published binaries.

Validation includes the unit suite (1,415 passing tests, 13 skips), 76 MCP checks, six lazy-startup scenarios, watcher resource checks, updater regressions, and review of the combined security diff. No confirmed introduced vulnerability or malicious indicator was found in that review. Draft PRs #700 and #695 are not included.
