Speed

• Fewer model calls per task (ADR 0231). An MCP server the message names loads with the first request when its schemas are small, and the folded subagent and agent_output tools load when the message asks for subagents, so no load_tool_schemas round trip comes first. The note on what loaded repeats how results are slimmed and says one rlm script can fetch, save and build a file in a single step. (#1449)
• write_file will not replace a file the session has not read, edited or written unless the call passes replace: true, and its result says whether it created or replaced the file and whether a .json file parses. The prompt drops the existence check before a write and the read-back after it. (#1449)
• A child's inherited MCP tools are callable from its first request: they are no longer deferred behind hosted tool search on the codex route. (#1449)
• -p and piped sessions skip reasoning summaries at low effort; nothing displays them there. (#1449)

Scripted sessions

• A piped graff repl reads a bracketed paste (ESC[200~ … ESC[201~) as one prompt, so a multi-line task is one turn. Without the frame each line is still its own prompt. (#1449)
• ask_user is offered only when someone can answer: not under -p, and not in a piped session outside --json or ACP. With no git identity configured, commits use git's defaults instead of asking. (#1449)

Evals

• graff, the Codex app server and pi on the same model and ChatGPT account, and graff, Claude Code, OpenCode 2 and pi on one gateway model, in evals/. The runner gives every harness an empty stdin. (#1448, #1450)
