Release list
nanoterm 0.1.30
Show Sidebar is ⌘S
The sidebar of tabs now opens and closes with ⌘S instead of ⌘⇧S. On Linux and Windows it stays Ctrl+Shift+S, since Ctrl+S belongs to the shell.
Updates
nanoterm 0.1.5 and later update themselves to this release.
nanoterm 0.1.29
Smooth resizing everywhere on macOS
Zooming, tiling and entering or leaving full screen are now as smooth as dragging the window's edge. nanoterm redraws when its layer is told its size changed, and the new frame reaches the screen together with the new size, the way Zed and Harness do it. You no longer see the old frame stretched for a moment (nanoui 0.6.4).
Updates
nanoterm 0.1.5 and later update themselves to this release.
nanoterm 0.1.28
Smoother resizing on macOS
Resizing the window is smooth now. Before, each step of a resize could wait a display refresh for a drawable, and the shell redrawing its prompt after each size change drew frames of its own that took the drawables the resize needed. Now only the resize draws while it's in progress, on a drawable that's ready, and the end of the resize catches up on any output that arrived meanwhile (nanoui 0.6.3).
Updates
If an update is already waiting, nanoterm keeps checking, so restarting always installs the newest version, even after a few days.
nanoterm 0.1.27
Faster drawing on every platform
nanoterm now runs on nanoui 0.6.2:
- Windows: frames reach the screen through Direct3D 11 and a flip-model swap chain instead of GDI, so resizing the window stays smooth.
- Linux: nanoterm draws with OpenGL where your graphics driver supports it, and uses GTK 4 when it's installed, falling back to GTK 3.
- Without a GPU: the CPU renderer, used on Windows and on Linux without OpenGL, now redraws only what changed and spreads large redraws across your CPU's cores.
- Windows on Arm: builds work again.
Updating
- macOS, Linux and Windows 0.1.26 update themselves to this release.
- On Linux and Windows, 0.1.25 needs one manual update.
nanoterm 0.1.26
Agents in a sidebar, after Harp
When you're using agents, the tabs move to a sidebar built for running several side by side:
- Rows are grouped by project: the repository a tab is in, or else its folder. Each group shows how many tabs it has and how many need you.
- Each row shows what you asked the agent, how long since it last did something, and its state: a turning ring while it works, an orange ring when it's asking you something, and a filled check while you haven't seen a finished turn (the name stays bold until you look). Once you've seen it, the check turns plain.
- The title bar shows the tab's name, its folder and its state, like "Working · 1m".
- View ▸ Show Sidebar (⌘⇧S) hides it or brings it back.
Thanks to Harp (github.com/dominikmartn/harp) for the design.
Updates on Windows and Linux
nanoterm now updates itself on Windows and Linux too. It downloads the new version, checks it, and offers "Restart to update". From 0.1.25 you'll need to update by hand once, because those builds didn't know their own version. After that, updates arrive on their own. nanoterm --version prints the version.
Files opened with nanoterm
nt REPORT.md opens nanoterm in the file's folder and shows the file, with Markdown drawn as Markdown. Before, macOS said nanoterm "cannot open files in the Markdown format". Files opened with nanoterm from the Finder (Open With) or with open -a nanoterm work the same way, each in its own tab. nt is now in the repository as tools/nt.
Also
- On Linux, the command palette no longer crashes when its highlight ends in the middle of a character.
- Built on nanoui 0.5.0.
nanoterm 0.1.25
nanoterm on Windows
nanoterm now runs on Windows 10 (1809 or later) and 11, on x86_64 and arm64. Download the zip, unzip it, and run nanoterm.exe.
- Your shell is PowerShell: version 7 if it's installed, otherwise Windows PowerShell. As with zsh on macOS, each command becomes a block with its output, exit code and time, and nanoterm follows the folder you move to.
- Programs and agents run in their own processes, and the agents work the same as on macOS and Linux.
- The program isn't signed yet, so the first time you open it SmartScreen asks: click "More info", then "Run anyway".
On every change, the tests run on a real Windows machine, alongside macOS and Linux.
Also
- On Windows, output keeps the blank lines and table layout PowerShell draws.
nanoterm 0.1.24
graff stays current on its own
nanoterm now keeps graff up to date the way Harness does. It keeps its own copy of graff and replaces it from codegraff's latest stable release shortly after launch, every hour, and when a graff session starts. Each download is checked against the release's checksums and run once before it goes in, and chats already open keep the graff they started with.
Sessions now run the newest graff on your machine, whether that's on your PATH, from another installer, or nanoterm's own copy. When graff is updated, a card shows the new version and what's new in it.
To run your own graff build, set GRAFF_EXECUTABLE; nanoterm then leaves graff alone. NANOTERM_GRAFF_AUTO_UPDATE=0 turns updates off.
nanoterm 0.1.23
Pictures reach every model
A picture you attach is now always named in the prompt by its file, as well as sent as an image. An agent can accept images and still be running a model that can't see them; that model used to get nothing, and could go looking for some other picture. Now it knows exactly which file to open.
Flowchart labels keep clear
A Mermaid flowchart's edge labels now sit on each edge's last stretch into its target, the gap before a column widens to fit them, and they're drawn over everything else. They no longer land on nodes, on a shared line or on each other.
nanoterm 0.1.22
Suggestions only go where they can
The suggestion as you type no longer offers a cd (or pushd) whose folder isn't there from where you are. It offers the next one back that is. What the shell expands itself, like $HOME/…, globs, quotes and cd -, is still suggested.
Stricter agents and MCP clients work
- The MCP server behind
show_visualnow answersinitializeandpingwith{}where it sent[], so MCP clients that check types accept it (#1, thanks @wallyssonnunes-hotmart). - nanoterm now answers an agent's
terminal/kill,terminal/releaseandfs/write_text_file(locally and over SSH) with{}instead ofnull, as ACP's schema has them.
nanoterm 0.1.21
Pictures reach the agent as Harness sends them
Every picture you attach is now a file; pasted ones are saved to nanoterm's uploads folder. The prompt lists each picture's file, and an agent that takes images also gets every picture inline (up to 3.7 MB) with its file's location. The list of files is left off only when every picture went inline, so an agent that can't take a picture inline can still open the file. Your message in the conversation now shows the pictures you sent.
How to use Emacs's or Vim's keys
If you choose Emacs or Vim during onboarding, it now shows how to:
- go into a command's output (Esc then k, or M-v) and move around it
- type to a program that's reading input, like
cat: the input is its line, Return sends it, ^D ends it
Smaller changes
The input's hints no longer use dashes.
