Release list
decant v0.4.0
Parallel conversion is now the default. Running decant from the terminal now behaves the same way the Finder Quick Action already did: files convert concurrently instead of one at a time. On an 18-core M5 Max, 50 files went from 24.0s to 4.5s. --jobs 1 still forces serial conversion if you need it (e.g. for deterministic logs or a slow external disk).
Fixed
Some containers (Matroska in particular) store certain tags at the stream level rather than the container level. Decant's enrichment step correctly detected these tags as present, but they were silently dropped when building the converted output instead of being carried over. They're now mapped through correctly.
Homebrew install now matches the Quick Action decant actually ships
0.3.0 replaced the old Shortcuts-based Quick Action with a proper Automator .workflow, specifically to get rid of the per-folder permission prompt that Shortcuts forced on every album. This release fixes the Homebrew tap so brew install jzstern/tap/decant — the recommended install path — actually installs that working Automator Quick Action too, instead of leaving you with a stale, Shortcuts-based one (or none at all).
decant v0.2.0
Renamed from toaiff to decant, and lossy .m4a/.opus files now convert to CDJ-ready MP3.
Converting
- Lossless sources (FLAC, ALAC, WAV, …) → AIFF, bit-exact, as before
- Lossy
.m4a(AAC) and.opus→ MP3 at the highest standard CBR rate that does not exceed the source's measured bitrate, so a lossy file is never inflated past its real quality - MP3 output is tuned for CDJ/rekordbox: CBR, ID3v2.3, JPEG cover art, and 32/44.1/48 kHz sample rates
- All metadata carries over, including Opus's stream-level Vorbis comments
Upgrading from toaiff
The Quick Action was renamed → aiff → Decant, and the old one runs a binary that no longer exists. Download Decant.shortcut below, add it, and delete the old → aiff shortcut in Shortcuts.app.
Every TOAIFF_* environment variable is now DECANT_*, and the log moved to ~/Library/Logs/decant.log.
toaiff v0.1.0
First tagged release.
- Right-click lossless audio in Finder → AIFF (Quick Action) + CLI
- No quality loss: bit-depth-preserving PCM target, never resamples
- Preserves artwork & metadata, plus fill-gaps-only ID3 enrichment — catalog→
grouping, track/disc backfill,feat.→ft., folder artwork - Originals moved to Trash only after the AIFF is verified readable
--dry-run,--no-enrich,--debug; central error log
Install: brew install jzstern/tap/toaiff (or clone + ./install.sh). See the README for the one-time Finder Quick Action setup.
The attached → aiff.shortcut is the pre-built Finder Quick Action.
