B2recomp v0.3.3
B2recomp v0.3.3 fixes the build in a folder whose path has commas, and a possible stop when leaving a level from the pause menu. As always, this download contains no game files: the game is built on your PC from your own dump.
If you have a Steam Deck please someone open an issue and send me your discord so we can get stability worked out for you and others
Opening an issue on GitHub: it must be written in English and have
b2recomp-report.zipattached (press Report... in the launcher). An issue opened without both will be closed promptly.
Fixed
- The build stopped at the link step when the B2recomp folder's path had commas in it, for example
F:\Games, Beta Builds, Unofficial Ports\Bayonetta 2 PC, withld.lld: error: could not open ' Beta Builds'. The build tools cut the path at its commas. B2recomp now builds in any folder, commas and spaces included. - A path with commas but no spaces could also stop the build earlier, while converting the program files. Fixed too.
- A possible stop when choosing Chapter Select or Return to Title Screen in the pause menu while a scene was holding a character (the log then says
UNTRANSLATED INSTRUCTION at 0x7100e17d58: e7ffdefe). The cutscene fix of v0.3.0 could make that character again while the game was unloading its data, and the game stops when that happens. It now waits until the unloading is done. That instruction is invalid on purpose: it is the game's own stop, not code that B2recomp failed to translate.
How to update from v0.2.x or v0.3.x
- Close B2recomp.
- Unzip
B2recomp-builder-26c45d7.zipto the same place as your old version, so that itsB2recompfolder goes over your oldB2recompfolder (if you renamed your folder, copy what is inside the zip'sB2recompfolder into yours). When Windows asks, choose to replace the files. - Start
B2recomp.exe, press Build (about a minute or two), then Play. Your settings, saves and mods stay.
If your build stopped at the link step with an earlier version, do the same: unzip v0.3.3 over it and press Build. It continues where it stopped.
New install
- Unzip
B2recomp-builder-26c45d7.zipinto a new folder. - Start
B2recomp.exe, choose your dump folder and press Build (about 5 minutes on a 16-thread PC). - When the build is done, choose your settings and press Play.
Windows SmartScreen may warn about B2recomp.exe because it is not signed: choose "More info", then "Run anyway".
Status
Tested on Windows: a new install in a folder named like ...\B2 comma test, Beta Builds, Unofficial Ports\Bayonetta 2 PC built and the game ran; a v0.3.2 install in that folder whose build had stopped at the link step finished its build after the update and the game ran. The cutscene fix still binds a scene's character again after the game removes it, and Chapter Select from the pause menu opens normally. The stop as one player reported it was not reproduced here. A v0.3.2 install updated by unzipping v0.3.3 over it rebuilt in 1 min 09 s. The Linux version gets the cutscene change in Linux Test 10.

B2recomp v0.3.2
B2recomp v0.3.2 makes the PlayStation and Xbox button pictures follow the letters printed on your controller. As always, this download contains no game files: the game is built on your PC from your own dump.
Opening an issue on GitHub: it must be written in English and have
b2recomp-report.zipattached (press Report... in the launcher). An issue opened without both will be closed promptly.
New
- Button pictures by printed letter. The PlayStation / Xbox button picture mod (Controller Prompts Replacement (DS4/XBOX) by Timo654, GameBanana 360121, the Switch version, in the
modsfolder) draws its pictures in the Switch places, so the game showed Circle where it asked for A. Now, with Face buttons set to By printed letter (or a remap that puts A on the bottom button), the pictures follow the printed letters: Cross / Xbox A where the game asks for A, Circle / B for B, Square / X for X and Triangle / Y for Y. - The action prompts in play ("Check", ...) show the button where it sits on your controller: Triangle / Y at the top, Square / X on the left, Circle / B on the right, Cross / A at the bottom, with the moon ring turned toward it.
- PlayStation controllers with "By printed letter": Cross now counts as A, Circle as B, Square as X and Triangle as Y. Before, a PlayStation controller acted as "By position" with this setting.
- With Face buttons on By position (and on Auto, which is by position for PlayStation and Xbox controllers) nothing changes: the pictures stay in the Switch places, as the mod draws them.
- HDR support for Windows

Status
Tested on Windows with a DualSense, the PlayStation pictures of the mod and Face buttons by printed letter: the menus show Cross for A, and the action prompts in play show their buttons in the PlayStation places with the ring turned toward them. A v0.3.1 install updated by unzipping v0.3.2 over it rebuilt in 1 min 28 s. Not tested yet: an Xbox controller with the Xbox pictures (the same rule). The Linux version gets the same change in Linux Test 9.

B2recomp v0.3.0
B2recomp v0.3.0 fixes a rare crash when a cutscene starts. Normal play is unchanged. As always, this download contains no game files: the game is built on your PC from your own dump.
Opening an issue on GitHub: it must be written in English and have
b2recomp-report.zipattached (press Report... in the launcher). An issue opened without both will be closed promptly.
Fixed
- A rare crash when a cutscene starts. A cutscene picks its characters once when it starts and keeps using them. If the game removed one of them while the cutscene was still playing, the cutscene kept using the removed character and the game closed. It was seen once, at 120 fps, in the cutscene after Verse 10 "Run from the Enemy!" (Loki's chase). Now a cutscene lets go of a character the game removes and takes the one that replaces it. This works at every frame rate.

Status
Tested on Windows: with the cutscene's character removed on purpose while it played, the game crashed before this fix and now plays the cutscene to its end with the character's replacement. A v0.2.10 install updated by unzipping v0.3.0 over it rebuilt in 1 min 23 s (3 files compiled). The standard test run and a 30-minute play through the same part of the game with the fix showed no change in normal play.

linux-test-9
This is the ninth test release of the native Linux version of B2recomp. It is a pre-release: the Windows version is v0.3.2. As always, this download contains no game files: the game is built on your PC from your own dump.
Opening an issue on GitHub: it must be written in English and have the report attached (
b2recomp-report.tar.gz: press Report... in the launcher, or runsh scripts/report.sh). An issue opened without both will be closed promptly.
New since Linux Test 8
The change of Windows v0.3.2:
- With Face buttons on By position (and on Auto, which is by position for PlayStation and Xbox controllers) nothing changes.
The files also hold Windows v0.3.1's HDR output. The Linux version has no HDR yet, so nothing changes there.
Updating from an earlier Linux test release
Unzip B2recomp-linux-builder-ed88445.zip over your old B2recomp folder and start B2recomp. It says that B2recomp was updated; press Build (a short rebuild, about two minutes), then Play. Your settings and saves stay.
New install
- Unzip
B2recomp-linux-builder-ed88445.zipwhere you want to keep the game, for example~/Games. - Open the folder and start
B2recomp: double-click it, or in a terminal runsh ./B2recomp. - Choose your dump folder (one folder that holds
exefs/andromfs/of Bayonetta 2, version 1.2), press Build (5 to 20 minutes, depending on your CPU), then Play.
You need 64-bit Linux from about 2022 or newer with a desktop (X11 or Wayland) and a Vulkan 1.3 driver (Mesa for AMD and Intel, or NVIDIA's own driver). START HERE.txt in the zip has the details.
Known limits of this test release
- The game times its frames with its own clock, not with your monitor's refresh as the Windows version does. You may see a slight judder now and then.
- The renderer finds out which textures the game changed by checksumming them (on Windows the system tracks this), which costs a little more CPU per frame.
- The v0.3.2 change was tested on Windows; its files compile for Linux, but it has not been tried on Linux yet.
- Tested on Arch-based systems (CachyOS) with an NVIDIA RTX 4060 laptop and an AMD RX 560, on KDE and Hyprland (Wayland). Other distributions should work, but are untested.

The fix of Windows v0.3.0:
- A rare crash when a cutscene starts. A cutscene picks its characters once when it starts and keeps using them. The README also describes how Windows players update (v0.2.10); nothing else changes for Linux.

B2recomp v0.2.10
B2recomp v0.2.10 makes updating simple: from now on you unzip a new version over your old B2recomp folder, and the launcher rebuilds only what changed. Your saves, settings and mods stay. The game itself plays exactly as in v0.2.9. As always, this download contains no game files: the game is built on your PC from your own dump.
Going to release a fix in 0.3.0 for a crash where object was destroyed but its destructor freed the array while leaving the count intact, so the cutscene kept referencing a deleted character or model.
Opening an issue on GitHub: it must be written in English and have
b2recomp-report.zipattached (press Report... in the launcher). An issue opened without both will be closed promptly.
New
- Update by unzipping over your old folder. When
B2recomp.exestarts after an update, it shows the build screen with your dump folder already filled in and "B2recomp was updated: press Build". Build redoes only what changed (about a minute or two), then the launcher opens with your settings as you left them. - Your settings are never overwritten. The download now brings its default settings in
config\defaults; they are used only when your ownconfig\graphics.iniorconfig\controllers.iniis missing. - This works when updating from v0.2.9 or older, too.
How to update from v0.2.x
- Close B2recomp.
- Unzip
B2recomp-builder-3558192.zipto the same place as your old version, so that itsB2recompfolder goes over your oldB2recompfolder. When Windows asks, choose to replace the files. - Start

Status
Tested on Windows: a v0.2.9 install updated to v0.2.10 by unzipping over it rebuilt in 1 min 13 s, with its settings, saves and mods unchanged. The game code is the same as in v0.2.9.

B2recomp v0.2.9
B2recomp v0.2.9 makes Frame rate (beta) above 60 steadier: a freeze of the game world after some slow-motion moments is fixed, hit-stop, Witch Time and input windows keep their 60 fps timing, the pictures go out on a steady beat, and the renderer does less work every frame. At 60 fps (the default) the game plays as before. As always, this download contains no game files: the game is built on your PC from your own dump.
Opening an issue on GitHub: it must be written in English and have
b2recomp-report.zipattached (press Report... in the launcher). An issue opened without both will be closed promptly.
Fixed (Frame rate above 60)
- The world no longer freezes after a slow motion. At the end of some slow-motion moments in events, the game could stand still for 5 to 30 seconds at 120 fps, with the music still playing, until a longer frame came by. Fixed, and slow motions now last as long as at 60 fps.
- Hit-stop, Witch Time and input windows keep their timing. Some of the game's timers only count for a while after an event: the pause when a hit lands, the end of Witch Time, input windows, enemy holds and waits. Above 60 fps they ran twice as fast; they now count in 60 fps frames (79 more of them, 114 in all).
- Steadier pictures. Above 60 fps each picture went out the moment it was ready, so small differences in the work of each frame reached the screen. Pictures now go out on a steady beat, as at 60: on a 240 Hz (or 238 Hz) monitor the frames are shown for two refreshes each. In our tests the frames shown unevenly went from about 13 % to under 3 %, and to 0.36 % in a 17-minute played session.
Faster
- Less work for the renderer every frame. Vertex data that does not change stays on the graphics card instead of being copied again every frame (in fights 17 to 36 MB a frame were copied, almost all of it unchanged); the check for which textures the game has changed asks Windows once per group of textures instead of once per texture; the log's reports are written at once. In our test fight at 120 fps the renderer now needs about 3.2 ms a frame instead of about 5 ms, and late frames are rarer. At 60 fps the same savings apply.
How to use
- Unzip
B2recomp-builder-5e03296.zipinto a new folder. - Start
B2recomp.exe, choose your dump folder and press Build (about 5 minutes on a 16-thread PC) - When the build is done, choose your settings and press Play.
Updating from v0.2.x: after the build, copy these folders from your old B2recomp folder into the new one:
build\play\userdata(your saves);config(your settings and controls);- optionally
cache, so the game does not prepare its shaders again on the first start.
Windows SmartScreen may warn about B2recomp.exe because it is not signed: choose "More info", then "Run anyway".
Status
Tested on Windows with an NVIDIA card and a 238 Hz monitor: played at 120 fps (fights, and the spot where the world froze), and checked with our test route at 60 and at 120 fps, with every check passing and no slowdown at either. Frame rates above 60 are still a beta.

New since Linux Test 6
The fixes of Windows v0.2.9. Most matter only with Frame rate (beta) above 60; at 60 fps the game plays as before.
- The world no longer freezes after a slow motion. At the end of some slow-motion moments in events, the game could stand still for 5 to 30 seconds at 120 fps, with the music still playing, until a longer frame came by. Fixed, and slow motions now last as long as at 60 fps.

Above 60 fps they ran twice as fast; they now count in 60 fps frames (79 more of them, 114 in all).
- Steadier pictures above 60 fps. Pictures go out on a steady beat at the chosen frame rate instead of the moment each one is ready. On Linux the beat is the game's own clock (the Linux version has no display lock yet).
- The log's reports are written at once instead of in dozens of small writes (a late frame every 300 frames at 120 fps).
- Two of v0.2.9's speed-ups depend on Windows tracking which memory the game wrote (vertex data kept on the graphics card, the texture check in groups). The Linux version has no such tracking yet, so they change nothing on Linux.

B2recomp v0.2.7
B2recomp v0.2.7 fixes a blurry picture on screens with display scaling and a crash in Tag Climax’s online mode. As before, this download contains no game files: the game is built on your PC from your own dump.
Disclaimer
If you decide to open a issue, give me a couple details about your situation in the best wording you can put it in ( English Only) then supply the report zip. If both of these things are not done when opening the issue it will be closed accordingly ( Can't do anything blind )
Next Update will include better stability hopefully across all systems, working on adding HDR support after this next release. So for now have HDR DISABLED when playing the Recomp or your game will break if you open a issue about it when I'm already telling you to turn it off for now It will be closed promptly.
Fixed
- Sharp picture on screens with display scaling. On a screen where Windows display scaling is above 100 % (common on 4K monitors and laptops), Windows gave the game a smaller “virtual” screen and stretched its picture: on a 4K screen at 300 %, the game drew 1280 × 720 and Windows enlarged it three times, so even a high Resolution scale looked blurry. The game now tells Windows it handles scaling itself: Borderless and Fullscreen use your screen’s real resolution, and a Windowed game keeps the size it had before. At 100 % scaling nothing changes.
- Tag Climax online no longer closes the game. Choosing Online and then Quick Match showed “Error Code: 2618-0006” and then the game closed. Online play cannot work in B2recomp (it cannot connect to Nintendo’s online services), but now the game says so properly: a short message explains that online play is not available, the game shows its own “Not connected to the Internet.” and you are back in the Online Menu.
How to use
- Unzip B2recomp-builder-b3a6dc6.zip into a new folder.
- Start B2recomp.exe, choose your dump folder and press Build (about 5 minutes on a 16-thread PC).
- When the build is done, choose your settings and press Play.
Updating from v0.2.x: after the build, copy these folders from your old B2recomp folder into the new one:
- build\play\userdata (your saves);
- config (your settings and controls);
- optionally cache, so the game does not prepare its shaders again on the first start.
Windows SmartScreen may warn about B2recomp.exe because it is not signed: choose “More info”, then “Run anyway”.
Status
Both fixes were tested on Windows with an NVIDIA card: the display scaling fix at 100 % scaling and with a switch to 150 % while playing borderless (the window sizes for scaled screens were checked with a test setting), the Tag Climax fix by choosing Quick Match several times. If something looks wrong, a report helps: press Report... in the launcher and attach b2recomp-report.zip to an issue (never attach game files).

This is the fifth test release of the native Linux version of B2recomp. It is a pre-release: the Windows version is v0.2.7. As always, this download contains no game files: the game is built on your PC from your own dump.
New since Linux Test 4
- Tag Climax online no longer closes the game (the fix of Windows v0.2.7).
(The display-scaling fix of Windows v0.2.7 is Windows-only.)
Updating from an earlier Linux test release
Unzip B2recomp-linux-builder-2c8652b.zip over your old B2recomp folder and start B2recomp. It says that B2recomp was updated; press Build (a short rebuild, about two minutes), then Play. Your settings and saves stay.
New Install
- Unzip B2recomp-linux-builder-2c8652b.zip where you want to keep the game, for example ~/Games.
- Open the folder and start B2recomp: double-click it, or in a terminal run sh ./B2recomp.
- Choose your dump folder (one folder that holds exefs/ and romfs/ of Bayonetta 2, version 1.2), press Build (5 to 20 minutes, depending on your CPU), then Play.
Known limits of this test release
- The game times its frames with its own 60 Hz clock, not with your monitor’s refresh as the Windows version does. On a screen that is not exactly 60 Hz you may see a slight judder now and then.
- The renderer finds out which textures the game changed by checksumming them (on Windows the system tracks this), which costs a little more CPU per frame.
- The Tag Climax fix was tested on Windows; the Linux build compiles the same change, but it has not been tried on Linux yet.
- Tested on Arch-based systems (CachyOS) with an NVIDIA RTX 4060 laptop and an AMD RX 560, on KDE and Hyprland (Wayland). Other distributions should work, but are untested.
Reporting Problems
Press Report... in the launcher, or run sh scripts/report.sh in the B2recomp folder. It makes b2recomp-report.tar.gz with the logs and your PC’s details, and nothing of the game. Attach it to an issue with a few words on what happened. Never attach game files.
