Walkthrough Filter Drill Down: Working with Picker Show-In-New

Filter Drill Down is the process to refine search/filter until you have found the images you want.

All Pickers (Folder-Picker, Date-Picker, Tag picker, Geo-Area-Picker) have long-press context menu that allows to open a new sub-view (Gallery-View, Geographic-Map or Image-View) filtered by current selected picker item.

Example

Start with an empty base filter: 21259 photos

First drill down: Tag="Peter" : 407 photos

  • In menu select "Tag Filter" to open the Tag picker
  • Long-press on tag "Peter" to open the contextmenu
  • In contextmenu press "Show in ..." to open the "Show in ..." sub menu
  • ==> you see
    • Show in new gallery (407)
    • Show in map (407)
    • Show Photos (407)
  • Note: You may need to scroll down the contextmenu to see all menu items.
  • Note: (407) means there are 407 photos tagged with label "Peter"
  • Select "Show in new gallery (407)" to open a new gallery filtered by Tag "Peter"
  • ==> you see "(407) photos"

Second drill down: Folder=".../holidays/Crete": 59 photos

  • press "folder symbol" or (menu "Folder Filter") to open the Folder-Picker
  • Note: The folder picker only shows folders that conain photos tagged with "peter".
  • In Folder-Picker navigate to ".../holidays/Crete"
  • Long-press on folder "Crete" to open the contextmenu
  • In contextmenu press "Show in ..." to open the "Show in ..." sub menu
  • ==> you see
    • Show in new gallery (429)
    • Show in new gallery (59)
    • Show in map (429)
    • Show in map (59)
    • Show Photos (429)
    • Show Photos (59)
  • Note: (429) means there are 429 photos inside folder "Crete"
  • Note: (59) means there are 59 photos that have folder "Crete" plus basefilter (tag="Peter")
  • Select "Show in new gallery (59)" to open a new gallery filtered by Tag="Peter" and folder="Crete"
  • ==> you see "(59) photos"

Third drill down: Date=2013/07/03 : 3 photos

  • In menu select "Date Filter" to open the Date-Picker
  • Note: The Date-Picker only shows dates that match the current filter (Tag="Peter" and folder="Crete").
  • In Date-Picker navigate to "2013/07/03"
  • Long-press on date "2013/07/03" to open the contextmenu
  • ==> you see
    • Show in new gallery (47)
    • Show in new gallery (3)
    • Show in map (47)
    • Show in map (3)
    • Show Photos (47)
    • Show Photos (3)
  • Note: (47) means there are 47 photos on date "2013/07/03"
  • Note: (3) means there are 3 photos that have date "2013/07/03" plus basefilter (tag="Peter" and folder="Crete")
  • Select "Show in new gallery (3)" to open a new gallery filtered by Tag="Peter" and folder="Crete" and date "2013/07/03"
  • ==> you see "(3) photos"
    • Note: if you open the filter view then you can see the current base filter (Tag="Peter" and folder="Crete" and date "2013/07/03")

Fourth: Undo the last third drill down : 59 photos

  • In Gallery-View with " (3) photos" press the back key.
  • ==> You see the Gallery-View with " (59) photos"
    • Note: if you open the filter view then you can see the current base filter is rolled back to Tag="Peter" and folder="Crete"
