0.5.2 beta
Crate 0.5.2 beta clears misleading pending changes and makes release verification more reliable.
Sync fix
Files whose contents match their last-synced copy now leave Pending automatically after a local content check, including when automatic sync is off. Obsidian rewriting a settings file without changing its contents no longer leaves an “Unchanged” item waiting for another sync. Real edits and outstanding uploads remain pending.
Test reliability
Browser tests now wait for completed UI state changes, control animation timelines, and select paginated reminders by identity. Focus restoration, logout cleanup, settings transitions, dock motion, and large-vault tests no longer depend on arbitrary sleeps or transient row positions. Unit tests that compare dates use a fixed clock. Assertions remain enabled; no retries were added.
Compatibility
- Requires Obsidian 1.13.0 or later.
- Server revision 4, database schema 2, and wire protocol 1 are unchanged. No server update is required for these plugin fixes.
- For manual installation, copy
main.js,manifest.json, andstyles.cssinto your vault's.obsidian/plugins/crate/directory, then reload Crate.
Verification
Automated release verification passed for commit 58e6dec1ae0188393aec7e6517492442bad0e1e9: Release plugin, using the successful exact-commit build and test run. The complete test matrix passed on its first attempt, including 4,118 unit tests, 634 Worker integration tests, browser and visual checks, and Docker checks on both architectures. Fresh security checks and an independent reproducible build also passed.
Downloaded release assets match the verified candidate checksums. Build provenance verifies against this release's exact tag and commit, and the signed shortcut matches its metadata and source.
Published as a beta under the maintainer's approved exception for physical-device and hosted acceptance. Those checks, including minimum-version Obsidian and physical iOS/Android acceptance, remain unverified.

0.5.1 beta
Crate 0.5.1 beta fixes unnecessary settings conflicts when pulling an existing vault onto a new device.
Sync fixes
- On the first sync into an empty vault, existing server settings replace Obsidian's setup defaults without conflict prompts. This covers a vault opened only to install BRAT and Crate. Vaults with existing content and later settings edits retain normal conflict handling.
- Interrupted first pulls resume across restarts. Settings edited during a download or before retry are preserved.
- Files that already match their synced version disappear from Pending after conflict handling. Saved conflict copies remain available for review.
- Syncing selected files now reports preparation, transfer, and application progress.
Compatibility
- Requires Obsidian 1.13.0 or later.
- Server revision 4, database schema 2, and wire protocol 1 are unchanged from 0.5.0. These plugin fixes do not require a server update.
- Existing conflicts from earlier sync attempts remain available for review.
- For manual installation, copy
main.js,manifest.json, andstyles.cssinto your vault's.obsidian/plugins/crate/directory, then reload Crate.
Verification
Automated release verification passed for commit d79b32c9d380ab4cf835e1734c9eb48ea3e6fda5: Release plugin, using the successful exact-commit build and test run. The gate includes 4,098 unit tests, Worker integration, browser and visual checks, fresh security checks, and a reproducible build. Three UI test groups passed after retry.
Downloaded plugin assets match the verified candidate checksums, the signed shortcut matches its metadata, and plugin build provenance verifies against this repository's release workflow. Publication as a beta is approved under an explicit maintainer exception for physical-device and hosted acceptance. Those checks remain unverified.

0.5.0 beta
Crate 0.5.0 beta adds flat reminder lists and comparisons between saved history and your current vault, with improvements to sync feedback and iPhone capture.
Reminders and appearance
- Flat reminder lists are now the default. Select Flat or Cards in Settings → Crate → Reminders → Reminder list style. The web app has its own saved style preference.
- Reminder descriptions stay readable in Markdown, including descriptions saved by earlier versions.
- Refined the shared tab bar and aligned Reading and reminder empty states.
History and recovery
- Compare a saved state with the current vault, including unsynced changes, while respecting sync exclusions.
- Refresh a comparison without losing the selected saved state or file. Incomplete scans and files changed during comparison produce an error instead of a misleading result.
- Improved history scrolling, restore feedback, and recovery of uncached sync baselines for previews and discarding local changes.
Sync and Reading
- Automatic sync is off by default for new configurations. Expanded default exclusions reduce accidental syncing of local application files.
- Clearer startup, stopping, and failure messages, with faster cancellation of vault scans and hashing.
- Unified web app sync coordination and improved iPhone shortcut capture reliability and save diagnostics.
- Restored keyboard focus after deleting the last reminder on a page and handled damaged Reading credentials during logout without an uncaught error.
Build and verification
- Release preparation signs the iPhone shortcut locally and reuses verified build artifacts for the exact release commit, with fresh security and reproducibility checks.
- Updated development dependencies and corrected checks for generated site assets and Reading recovery actions.
Compatibility and installation
- Requires Obsidian 1.13.0 or later.
- Includes server revision 4, database schema 2, and wire protocol 1. The database schema and wire protocol are unchanged from 0.4.1. Update the server through Crate settings to receive the web app changes.
- For manual installation, place
main.js,manifest.json, andstyles.cssin your vault's.obsidian/plugins/crate/directory, then reload Crate. - The signed
save-to-crate-ios-27.shortcutasset requires iOS 27 or later.reading-shortcut.jsonrecords its checksum and source fingerprint.
Acceptance status
The full release gate passed for commit 624761cd, reusing successful push verification and refreshing security, server-revision, and clean-install reproducibility checks. The attached plugin assets match the verified candidate, and their provenance is verified against the release workflow and commit. The signed shortcut's checksum and source fingerprint also match.
Publication as a beta is approved under a maintainer exception for physical-device and hosted acceptance. Those checks, including importing, pairing, and saving with the signed shortcut, remain unverified for these assets.

0.4.1 beta
Crate 0.4.1 beta improves sync recovery, Reading reliability, and navigation in Obsidian and the web app.
- Preserve fenced, nested, and indented code changes during Markdown merges, and keep recovery copies when local writes fail.
- Recover interrupted Reading projections, retain cached articles and pending edits, and bound retries after uncertain saves. Keep article navigation blocked until Back finishes, so reopening preserves the reader and its highlights.
- Keep in-flight sync, Reading, and deployment operations tied to the connection that started them.
- Allow server deletion independently of the server's app version, with resumable cleanup and resource-identity checks.
- Keep input blocked until the update curtain actually finishes fading, including delayed compositor frames.
- Keep tab transitions opaque when a completed fade and a rapid return happen together, and clear unfinished tab fades when returning from another feature.
- Synchronize dock and tab animations, simplify plugin dialog styling, and keep Reading highlights controls above overlapping status bars.
- Update development-tool dependencies and expand storage, recovery, and browser regression coverage.
Requires Obsidian 1.13.0 or later. The bundled server uses revision 3, database schema 2, and protocol 1. Database schema and wire protocol are unchanged from 0.4.0. Install the plugin, update the server through Crate settings, and reload the web app. See the compatibility guide for supported upgrade paths.
For manual installation, copy main.js, manifest.json, and styles.css into your vault's .obsidian/plugins/crate/ folder, then reload Crate.
The signed save-to-crate-ios-27.shortcut requires iOS 27 or later. Import it into Shortcuts and complete pairing through Crate's Reading setup. reading-shortcut.json records its checksum and source fingerprint; THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md lists bundled licenses.
All 16 jobs in release verification passed for commit 0ea214ed, including the browser matrix, security checks, and a clean reproducible build. The four plugin assets were downloaded, matched against the local and CI builds, and verified against signed provenance for that exact commit. The signed shortcut passed checksum and source-fingerprint verification.
This beta is published with an approved maintainer exception for manual acceptance. Physical iOS/Android flows, minimum Obsidian 1.13.0 compatibility, clean desktop hosted OAuth/sync/update, independent-account OAuth, hosted push, and iPhone shortcut import/pair/save remain unverified. Passing automated tests does not establish these manual results.
0.4.0 beta
What's new
- Save articles to Reading from Obsidian, the web app, or the iPhone shortcut. Pair the shortcut with the web app, queue captures, and create article notes after extraction finishes. Desktop Obsidian can fetch articles directly.
- Read and organize articles with shared plugin and web interfaces, highlights, offline editing, and imports from existing Reading-folder notes.
- Customize the web app's navigation dock and use shared settings, improved sheets, clearer update controls, and more consistent mobile navigation.
- Browse and compare shared vault history checkpoints, preview restore points, and use resumable server backup and restore tools.
- Run Crate through Docker with self-hosted remote access and device pairing.
- Improve reminder controls, browser focus and keyboard handling, logout history, and interrupted server recovery.
Compatibility
Requires Obsidian 1.13.0 or later. This is a beta pre-release.
The bundled server uses revision 2, database schema 2, and protocol 1 after the pre-launch numbering reset. These numbers belong to the new release sequence; they do not imply an automatic downgrade or compatibility with the earlier numbered prereleases. Use matching plugin, Worker, web app, and shortcut builds. Review the upgrade and compatibility guide and server upgrade contract before changing an existing deployment.
The included iPhone shortcut requires iOS 27 or later.
Installation
Download main.js, manifest.json, and styles.css into your vault's .obsidian/plugins/crate/ folder, then reload Crate.
For iPhone capture, download save-to-crate-ios-27.shortcut, import it into Shortcuts, and complete pairing through Crate's Reading setup. The signed template remains editable after import. reading-shortcut.json contains its checksum and source fingerprint; it is not needed for installation.
THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md lists bundled third-party licenses.
Verification status
This beta was published with unresolved CI failures. Shortcut verification, Worker integration, and Docker checks passed. The dependency audit reported a moderate undici vulnerability in the development toolchain, and several browser test jobs failed. The plugin assets were built locally from tag 0.4.0; the production build and release-artifact validation passed. CI reproducibility and provenance attestation were not completed.
0.3.0 beta
What's new
- Browse file history, compare saved versions with the current file, and restore an earlier copy with clearer navigation and recovery handling.
- Review pending changes against the last-synced copy. Discard local Markdown edits offline using the copy cached on the device; new local files move to trash. Missing cached copies leave local changes intact.
- Keep a custom conflict-resolution draft while reopening or refreshing source files. Reveal conflict files in the desktop file manager and open pending files with a double-click.
- Edit reminder titles and descriptions with the new editor, including editable Markdown links and automatic page-title labels for pasted URLs.
- Pause sync, choose the correct server when connecting another vault, and use clearer sync progress, status, and recovery controls.
- Improve mobile web-app sheets, safe areas, text selection, reminder chips, and project suggestions. Overdue recurring reminders now receive overdue styling.
- Exclude saved conflict copies from active reminder scanning and improve preservation of renamed files, hidden-file conflicts, and interrupted uploads.
- Keep native Obsidian menus and dialogs focused when the reminder editor finishes opening.
- Preserve actionable cleanup warnings after logout when browser storage or remote session revocation fails. Session-expiry screens retain instructions for recovering pending edits.
Compatibility and server update
Requires Obsidian 1.13.0 or later. This is a beta pre-release.
This release includes server revision 53, database schema 1, and protocol 10. Ordinary protocol-7 writes remain supported; newer features require an updated server. After updating the plugin, select Update server in Crate settings and reload the reminders web app. Follow the upgrade order.
Existing schema-1 deployments retain their database and bucket. There is no migration from the experimental schema-5 database shipped in 0.1.0; unsupported databases are rejected without resetting them. See the server upgrade contract.
Local discard restores the last-synced copy cached on that device, which can differ from the latest server version. Existing non-Markdown files have no cached discard baseline. Normal sync still discovers newer server changes.
Installation
Download main.js, manifest.json, and styles.css below into your vault's .obsidian/plugins/crate/ folder, then reload Crate. THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md lists bundled third-party licenses.
Validation
The GitHub release gate passed for commit 10399d5, including all 36 browser suites. Release assets match an independent clean build byte for byte, and all four GitHub provenance attestations were verified against that commit.
Physical iOS/Android testing, minimum-version Obsidian 1.13.0 testing, and hosted OAuth, sync, and push acceptance remain unverified. Browser automation does not replace these manual checks.
0.2.0 beta
What's new
- Review pending files in a compact two-pane Sync activity view, with text diffs and line counts. File comparisons load automatically, and unchanged touched files remain visible.
- Choose which files to sync with checkboxes. Highlight rows independently with Cmd/Ctrl+A, Shift-click, or Cmd/Ctrl-click for bulk file actions.
- Discard local changes after reviewing the affected files. Existing files are restored from the server with recovery copies; locally added files move to trash. Unchanged files are skipped.
- Open files in Obsidian or reveal them in the desktop file manager from the context menu.
- Sync community plugins and their settings, including hidden configuration-file changes.
- Review and resolve conflicts, see clearer sync history, and track progress during larger syncs and reminder preparation.
- Improved Cloudflare usage reporting, connection recovery, interrupted deployment recovery, and server-update verification.
- Refined desktop and mobile UI, including tighter layouts and improved iOS header spacing.
Compatibility
Requires Obsidian 1.13.0 or later. This is a beta pre-release.
Server upgrades: this build uses database schema 1 and does not include a migration from the schema-5 database shipped in 0.1.0. The updater rejects unsupported databases without resetting them. Do not treat this as an in-place server upgrade from 0.1.0; retain your existing deployment and backups. See the server upgrade contract.
Checkbox inclusion applies to the current sync action; unchecked files may still sync later through automatic sync. Discard changes only the local files, never the server copy.
Installation
Download main.js, manifest.json, and styles.css below and place them in your vault's .obsidian/plugins/crate/ folder, then reload Crate. THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md lists bundled third-party licenses.
