v0.4.4 — What the name means
What the name means, and a fix to how it gets archived. Four commits since v0.4.3.
Aava
The README and CITATION.cff now say what the name is: Finnish for vast, open expanse, said most often of the open sea or a wide, unobstructed landscape. Where the word itself comes from isn't settled — it may be a variant of aapa, the term for the open, treeless mires of Finland's north, shifted by association with avata, "to open"; or a separate borrowing from Sámi — but either root points the same way, which is what the name was chosen for.
A stale archive
The DOI badge looked broken, and the actual fault was one file back: the Zenodo archive made for v0.4.3 came out labelled version 0.4.2 on its own record page. .zenodo.json carries its own copy of the version, because Zenodo's GitHub integration reads that file rather than CITATION.cff, and nothing had bumped it since 0.4.2 — it isn't the tag, the export preset or CITATION.cff, so the check that already compares those three said nothing was wrong, twice, while a fourth copy quietly lagged two releases behind. It's current now, and the release workflow checks it against the tag the same way it already checks the other three, so this can't happen silently again.
