Uploads on Steam Community
Upload your avatar opens the Mac's file panel. Every upload on a Steam Community or Store page did nothing when clicked: an avatar, a profile background, a screenshot. The pages inside Steam had no way to show a file panel. The panel offers the files the page takes, images for an avatar.
Steam's file pickers
Dismissing one of Steam's own pickers is quiet. Steam read the cancel as an error, so closing Add a Library Folder's folder picker without choosing showed an error dialog.
The pickers open as a sheet on the Steam window you are using, and the rest of Sevoflurane keeps running while one is open.

Runs on macOS 26
Engine r8 is built for macOS 26. Every earlier engine asked for macOS 27, so on Tahoe the setup assistant stopped at "Setting up Steam" with an error about ntdll.so being built for a newer macOS. The setup assistant installs r8, so a Mac on macOS 26 that stopped there gets past it on the next try.
Steam screenshots
Recordings & Screenshots shows the screenshots you take. Each one was saved and then drawn as a black tile, because the media view asked for its image at an address Sevoflurane did not answer.
Steam's screenshot key (F12) works in OpenGL games, many visual novels among them. Steam's overlay asks for an OpenGL function by an older name that the engine refused on a Mac, and every capture failed; engine r8 gives it. Games on DXMT capture too. Games on D3DMetal, which every DirectX 12 game uses, still take no screenshot: Steam's overlay cannot attach to D3DMetal.
Discord status for every game
A game Discord does not know, a visual novel you added outside Steam for one, now shows on your status as "Playing" and its name. Games Discord knows show under their own name and icon as before, and an added program is now recognized by its executable too, the way Discord recognizes it. A game that publishes its own Discord status keeps it to itself: Sevoflurane no longer adds a second one beside it.
Discord shows activity only when Settings › Activity Privacy › "Share your detected activities with others" is on.
Mac Compatibility, read more fairly
A game's rating from Sevoflurane players now comes from runs on the three newest engines; runs on old engines and under CrossOver stay listed in Details and no longer set the rating. When the only runs come from a single Mac and AppleGamingWiki rates the game better under Wine or CrossOver, the card shows the wiki's rating, capped at Silver. The sentence under the rating says what the runs did ("it reached a frame in 1 of 3 runs") and counts only the runs the rating is taken from. A 32-bit-only macOS version shows as information, since Sevoflurane plays the Windows version.
Security
A program on your Mac could read Steam's account files (sign-in tokens, the account list) through Sevoflurane's local connection to Steam by putting .. in a path. Paths are now checked after decoding, and that one is refused. Web pages were never able to reach it.
Engine downloads are verified against a new signing key as well as the current one, so engines can move to the new key in a later release.

Sevoflurane 1.7.2
Set custom artwork takes a full-size image. A picture over about 750 KB closed the page's connection to Steam on its way there, and Steam answered with its generic artwork error.
The library shows the art you set. Steam looks for custom art at an address only its own browser answered, so a custom logo, hero or capsule was saved and then replaced on screen by Steam's own picture.

Wallpaper Engine, through Phosphene
Wallpaper Engine's own window stays blank on a Mac, so Sevoflurane now treats it as what it is here: the way to subscribe to wallpapers. Its page shows it as playing through Phosphene, Install asks nothing, and Launch opens the Workshop in Steam under a short guide: subscribe there, and Phosphene (free, from the same developer) finds the wallpapers and plays them as your Mac's wallpaper.
macOS versions, from Steam for Mac's copy
Installing a game's macOS version now uses the copy Steam for Mac already has: Steam checks the files rather than downloading them again, whichever button started the install. sevo app install --from-steam-for-mac does the same from the command line.
Games whose macOS version uses frameworks start again: a macOS version installed through Sevoflurane lost the links inside its frameworks, and they are now repaired before each launch.
Games in the Dock
A game's own icon in the Dock now draws its artwork edge to edge when the artwork is a picture, and sits on a platter only when it is a glyph; a game Steam has no large icon for takes its icon from the game's own executable or its library capsule, so tiles stay sharp on a Retina display. A click on a kept tile brings the game forward when it is already running instead of starting it twice, and a Quick Launch program's tile waits for the background helper rather than for Steam. Keep in Dock is in Game Settings as well as a game's menu. Quick Launch programs can be renamed, and a kept tile follows the new name.
Settings › General › Games folder in the Dock keeps a folder of every game beside the Dock's other folders: each game under its own icon, the last played on top.
A kept tile has a menu while the game is not running: Play, Play with a renderer, Game Settings…; a HoYoverse game's tile shows "update" when a newer build is published and a progress bar while it downloads.
Steam's file pickers and desktop shortcuts
Set custom artwork, a custom icon for a non-Steam game, and Browse… in Add a Non-Steam Game open the Mac's file panel; before, they opened nothing. Add desktop shortcut puts an alias of the game's own bundle on the Desktop, with the game's icon, where it used to write a Windows shortcut inside the bottle.
Engine r7
After a switch to another app, a game's fullscreen-mode window no longer sits above the Dock and takes the clicks meant for it.
Sevoflurane 1.6.1
Download: Sevoflurane-1.6.1.dmg
Sevoflurane 1.6.1, with Dormison r6. Fixes for setup and for HoYoverse game installs.
Setup
- Setup installs the engine chosen on its Engine step. On a Mac with CrossOver licensed or in its trial, it used CrossOver even with Dormison selected.
- Setup gets past "could not load kernel32.dll" (status c0000135). A Steam folder whose first start was cut short, or that Steam's installer failed in, is set aside and built again, so Try Again, or opening Sevoflurane again, starts from a sound folder. (#3)
- A new Steam folder that starts without Windows' 32-bit files stops setup with that reason, at the step that made it.
HoYoverse games
- Checking or installing a large game such as Genshin Impact keeps memory flat: each block is let go as soon as it is hashed. Thanks to @maxdp66 for finding and measuring it. (#1)
If setup stopped for you on 1.6.0, download this version and open it: setup continues from where it stopped.
Requires macOS 26 or later on Apple silicon.
Sevoflurane 1.6.0

Download: Sevoflurane-1.6.0.dmg
Sevoflurane 1.6, with Dormison r6. Steam's client update of 14 October changed several of its own calls; this release follows them.
After the Steam update
- Install opens Steam's install dialog again. Steam now refuses the older form of the call without a word, so Install did nothing.
- A game's macOS version is offered again in Sevoflurane's Steam. The update renamed the code Sevoflurane finds it through, and it is now found by what it does, so the next rename keeps it working.
sevo app uninstalland pausing or resuming all downloads work again.- A call Steam refuses is written to Sevoflurane's log, so the next change of this kind shows up there at once.
Choosing a version
- The ▾ beside Install chooses the macOS or Windows version, in the style of Steam's own split buttons. Install itself installs the version its mark shows.
- The menu recommends neither version.
- A macOS version is rated in AppleGamingWiki's own words, Perfect, Playable, Runs or Unplayable, beside an apple, blue once the game is set to it. Medals stay for Windows versions.
- A game installed on another of your computers, which Steam offers to stream, no longer shows a Version entry.
Library
- The library's marks explain themselves in a tooltip, and rated versions carry a medal in ProtonDB's colors.
Steam connection
- Sevoflurane notices when Steam's main thread stops answering and restarts it, and a stuck disk mount can no longer freeze Sevoflurane's helper.
Requires macOS 26 or later on Apple silicon.
Sevoflurane 1.5
Download: Sevoflurane-1.5.dmg
Sevoflurane 1.5, with Dormison r6.
Native macOS games
- Stopping a macOS game, from Steam's Stop button or from Sevoflurane, ends it and everything it started. Quitting Sevoflurane or switching engines does too.
- A game that restarts itself or starts from a launcher stays one game to Steam and Sevoflurane.
- Sevoflurane recognizes a macOS game's window in any Steam library, external drives included, so it brings the game forward, keeps the display awake and places the overlay as it does for a Windows game.
- A macOS game launched a second time keeps its Steam achievements, stats and cloud saves, like the first launch.
- A crash in a macOS game shows as a crash in the game's run history.
Choosing a version
- When Steam refuses a switch between a game's macOS and Windows versions, the version menu says so and offers Try Again; the install starts only once Steam has taken the choice.
- The Installed tag marks the version actually on disk.
- The Apple filter lists games on compatibility ratings alone: picking the macOS version of a game rated as not working leaves it out.
Steam connection
- A native game's Steam connection is checked in full before Steam acts on it, and a Steam helper that stops responding can no longer freeze or end the game.
Requires macOS 26 or later on Apple silicon.

Sevoflurane 1.4, with Dormison r5.
One release line
- Every version is now a regular release, the app and its engine alike. The update channel and its Settings picker are gone, and anyone on a 1.1 beta updates to this on their own.
Native macOS games
- A macOS game is recognized as the running game once its window is up: Sevoflurane brings it forward, keeps the display awake, and holds an update until it quits, as it does for a Windows game.
- Games whose Steam launch points at the program inside their bundle, such as Fluffy Store, start and quit cleanly, every time.
- Run records name a macOS game's runs as macOS.
Requires macOS 26 or later on Apple silicon.
Sevoflurane 1.1.0-beta.3
Download: Sevoflurane-1.1.0-beta.3.dmg
The third beta of Sevoflurane 1.1, with Dormison b4.
Finding the games that play
- The library's Mac filter is an Apple button beside Recent and Ready to Play, where Steam for Mac keeps its own. It shows the games that play on this Mac: a macOS version that runs, or a Windows version that Sevoflurane players or AppleGamingWiki rate Verified or Playable.
- ProtonDB ratings still show on each game's badge, and stay out of the filter: they describe Linux.
Installing the right version
- For a game with a macOS version, the ▾ beside Install opens the version menu, with Steam Link and Remote Play one item below.
- The Install button shows which version it is set to install.
Native macOS games
- Quitting a macOS game ends everything it started, and Steam shows it stopped within seconds.
- Steam's launch of a macOS game no longer leaves an Explorer window behind.
- Run records name a macOS game's runs as macOS.
Beta 4 updates to this on its own. Requires macOS 26 or later on Apple silicon.
