Export directly after arranging the document; tables continue by row, images retain their proportions, and controls or scrollbars are excluded.
• Choose normal editing, Markdown source, or source with preview from one menu. Desktop also includes document layout. Tabs can be reordered while reading and are hidden during editing to protect drafts.
• Desktop, Web and embedded readers share one rounded line-icon system with immediate function hints. Reading mode appears by default on desktop and standalone Web; embedded readers preserve compact defaults, host configuration, and existing document and annotation APIs.
• Muted fine-line horizontal handles are separated from the six-dot movement grips and constrained to their column. Multiple short passages can stack in one right column.
• Desktop code editing improves indentation and line spacing while retaining syntax highlighting and optional dark-mode guidance. Local GIFs and self-contained GIF images in Web shares retain animation.
• Large desktop libraries show scan progress and make partial results available. Search includes folder names. Image loading and viewport changes no longer nudge the reading position. Existing authorized image-matching flows remain available.
• The desktop executable includes --luma-agent help, inspect, and export, using the same PDF renderer and JSON layout data without changing the normal UI or source Markdown. Existing output files are protected by default. See AGENT-PDF.md.

Desktop PDF layouts and annotations are stored separately in app-local data. Embedded hosts remain responsible for backend persistence through the existing APIs.

• Apply per-export pagination adjustments to individual sections: start a new page, continue after the previous section, or keep the section together where possible. Reset these adjustments at any time; the Markdown source is unchanged.
• Long tables flow by row with repeated column headings. Long quotes and code blocks can continue across pages, reducing unnecessary blank space.
• Refined optional palette-colored frame with less bottom space and a subtle gray footer name centered between the frame and page bottom. Footer and frame remain independent options.

• Formatting tools include names and explanations, with optional compact labels. Direct editing supports table row/column operations, formatting undo, image insertion and zoom.
• Display formulas now align consistently in reading and editing, including nested fractions.
• Desktop image selection uses an asynchronous native panel with visible progress and duplicate-request protection. OS and file-location latency can still vary.
• Desktop adds highlighted, line-numbered reading and basic editing for Python, C, C++, JavaScript and TypeScript files. Code formats are opt-in; each document opens read-only until editing is enabled. No code is executed.

Editing

• Preview reflow no longer scrolls the Markdown source while typing, including unequal source/preview widths. Deliberate scrolling continues to synchronize the panes; the editor can still reveal the caret when it reaches the edge.
• Formatting, image insertion, and indentation use native editing history alongside typing, so Undo and Redo work consistently. The Insert menu preserves the visible text selection while choosing a format.
• Comparison preview starts enabled for new Web and Desktop users. A saved choice to turn it off remains respected.

PDF export

• Separate checkboxes control the footer name and the palette-colored frame. Both initially remain unchecked for plain white pages without a decorative frame or footer name.
• Successful exports remember the name and both options across windows and restarts. Turning the footer off keeps the saved name for later; canceling or a failed export does not replace your choices.
• Manual page breaks (<!-- lumareader:pagebreak -->), Markdown rendering, and rounded colored frames continue to work.

Website and Web reader

• Traditional Chinese copy has been revised for natural Taiwanese wording while retaining the original meaning.
• The demo still lists macOS, Windows, and Linux downloads and a link back to the homepage. The official Kainnne header logo is preserved.

Read and edit local Markdown with clearer folder search, predictable wrapping, and more flexible PDF output.

• Folder indexing continues in bounded batches instead of dropping subfolders after the old scan limit. Incomplete, inaccessible, or cloud-backed folders have visible status and a refresh hint.
• Search matches document paths and folder names, handles Unicode normalization, and expands matching folders. Large results load in batches to keep the interface responsive.
• Comparison preview defaults to on after this upgrade. Source and editor text wrap to the available width in vertical views; subsequent preview choices are remembered.
• PDF export offers a selected, editable footer name. Keep LumaReader, enter your company, or leave it blank. Successful exports remember the choice across windows and restarts. The footer now sits at the bottom right with readable spacing. The rounded paper frame has clean corners, and page margins follow the selected palette with a light tint.
• Add <!-- lumareader:pagebreak --> on its own line between sections to begin a new PDF page. See PDF export instructions.
• A dismissed tour no longer reopens from an old timer. Opening Settings after resizing keeps the menu available while layout updates settle.
• Linux x64 is available as an AppImage and .deb. The release workflow verifies Ubuntu 22.04 and the same .deb on Ubuntu 24.04; prefer .deb on Ubuntu 24.04. See Linux compatibility.
• The website focuses on personal developers working with local documents. A more visible Web trial entry accompanies desktop downloads; Web download links select the current desktop platform directly.

macOS downloads are Universal, Developer ID signed and notarized. Windows x64 Setup and Portable downloads remain unsigned. Linux downloads are not signed distribution-repository packages. SHA-256 checksums accompany all downloads. File associations remain a manual choice in the operating system; installation and launch preserve an existing Markdown default.

• Open a Markdown file from macOS or Windows directly into an editable window. Its containing folder appears in the sidebar. Separate files keep separate windows and unsaved edits; reopening the same file focuses its existing window. Up to eight windows can be open at once.
• Vertical reading, source view, and editing now wrap long text to the available width. Live preview scrolling accounts for wrapped source lines. These changes also ship in LumaReader Web.
• Source, Media, and Export PDF start hidden. Enable them in Settings when needed. Upgrading applies the new PDF default once; subsequent user choices remain saved. PDF export is available in the desktop edition.
• The guide explains how to choose LumaReader as the default Markdown app yourself. The application does not register protocols or change system defaults at launch. macOS bundles and Windows installers still declare supported Markdown file types for Open With. Windows installation and removal preserve existing extension defaults; macOS declares LumaReader as an alternate handler.
• Desktop windows have separate document folders and authenticated local services. Saving checks for external changes and replaces the file after writing a temporary copy. Folder scans, includes, diagram rendering, and simultaneous windows have resource limits. Large documents use a plain-text preview.

Version 1.1.0 makes Markdown editing more deliberate while keeping LumaReader focused on local reading and personal control.

What changed

• Added an Insert menu for headings, emphasis, links, quotes, code, tasks, tables, and images.
• Images can be chosen or dropped into the editor. The desktop app copies them into a portable folder beside the Markdown document and inserts the relative syntax automatically.
• Kept the editor and preview at the same visible position when inserting Markdown structures.

The Windows x64 Setup and Portable builds remain unsigned. Windows may therefore show Microsoft Defender SmartScreen or Unknown publisher warnings even when the files are downloaded from the official release.

Version 1.0.2 adds PDF export to the local-first Markdown reader for macOS and Windows, alongside the public LumaReader Web edition.

What changed

• Export the reading view as PDF. A new PDF button sits with the document actions in the toolbar and opens the native system save dialog.
• Complete A4 print layout. The export waits for fonts and images, preserves print backgrounds, and keeps headings, code, tables, diagrams, mathematics, and images readable across pages.
• Desktop-only export. PDF export uses the installed application and never uploads the document for online processing.
• LumaReader Web. The website now provides the reader and editor at /web/, with the complete reading controls, editing preview, and a three-document browser-session limit.
• Intentional web boundaries. Web documents remain in the current tab and are cleared on reload or close. Individual files can be removed to free a slot. The web edition does not provide folder libraries, document downloads, cloud persistence, or PDF export.
