• Linux: real transparent companion window on X11/Xwayland. momPanel now
  routes onto X11 when a display is available (through Xwayland, inside the normal
  Wayland session — no Xorg login needed), so companion mode is genuinely
  see-through to the live desktop instead of a simulated wallpaper backdrop.
  Diagnosed and verified live on the target (Zorin, GNOME 46). Set
  MOMPANEL_FORCE_WAYLAND=1 to opt out and keep the opaque + wallpaper-sim
  behaviour. As a bonus, the remembered window position now takes effect on Linux
  (Wayland ignored client-side positioning). Windows/macOS keep their existing

• Companion: frosted-glass panels. Each panel's background can now be Clear,

• Companion: scrolling alert ticker (opt-in). An alternative to the pop-up
  attention cards — a slim, severity-coloured ticker (yellow for a warning, red
  for a problem) that gently scrolls the same message and pauses on hover. Smaller
  and less intrusive; lays out static and wrapping under reduced-motion. About →
  General.

Fixed

• Companion keep-below made the window uninteractive on GNOME. Pinning the
  panel below other windows used _NET_WM_STATE_BELOW, which on Mutter stops the
  window receiving clicks and blocks Super+drag moves. Keep-below is now disabled
  on Linux (it was a no-op on Wayland anyway); companion is a normal, interactive
  window there. Still applies on Windows/macOS. A memory-escalation "Open" also
  releases the pin so the panel can surface over an occluding window.
• Companion attention card is now opaque so a warning (e.g. a printer alert)
  stays readable over a see-through sky.

Changed

• The main window is created in code rather than tauri.conf.json, so its
  transparency can be decided at runtime per platform/session. The Linux
  tauri.linux.conf.json override is retired.

Fixed

• Linux: companion "Invisible" showed a white void instead of the wallpaper.
  Two stacked causes, diagnosed live on the target machine. (1) The wallpaper
  lookup's gsettings call still ran with the raw AppImage env (0.6.4's hostexec
  fix covered the settings buttons and xdg-open only); gsettings couldn't load
  the dconf GIO module (libdconfsettings.so: undefined symbol) and silently
  answered with SCHEMA DEFAULTS — adwaita-l/d.jpg paths that don't exist on
  Zorin — so no backdrop layer was ever created. (2) The About panel's live
  opacity control set the sky opacity directly, bypassing the boot-time
  "nothing to reveal → stay solid" guard, exposing the webview's blank canvas.
  gsettings now goes through hostexec, and the live control keeps the sky
  visually solid when no backdrop exists (body.dataset.backdrop).
• All remaining Linux host spawns hardened against the same AppImage env
  poisoning: notify-send, gdbus, canberra-gtk-play, wpctl (×3), spd-say, nmcli
  (×2), lpstat (×2), ipptool. These mostly worked by luck — the tools that don't
  load GIO modules survived — but it's one bug class, now with one mechanism.

• wallpaper.log (config dir, 20 KB cap): traces each backdrop resolution —
  gsettings values per key, existence checks, chosen file, encoded size — so the
  next field report pinpoints the failing step in one SSH read.

momPanel v0.6.4

Fixed

• Linux: the settings buttons finally, actually work — root cause found on the
  target machine. The AppImage runtime exports its mounted squashfs into the
  app's environment (LD_LIBRARY_PATH, GTK/GDK/GST module paths, PATH, cwd);
  spawned host tools like gnome-control-center inherited it, resolved host
  libraries against the AppImage's older bundled copies, and died instantly with a
  symbol lookup error (libcurl-gnutls vs bundled libnghttp2 — captured live on
  Zorin 18.1 via the 0.6.2 shortcuts.log trace + a zombie child + env-replay).
  spawn() returned Ok, so the log looked clean. All host spawns (settings
  shortcuts, xdg-open) now go through hostexec::host_command, which strips the
  AppImage variables and scrubs mount dirs out of PATH/XDG_DATA_DIRS — the
  updater's relaunch chain can stack several generations of mounts (three seen
  live), so components are filtered individually. Sanitized-env replay on the real
  machine launches gnome-control-center cleanly. 0.6.1's "transparency eats input"
  diagnosis was wrong: clicks always arrived.
• Linux: ghost frames in transparent regions (closed About panel and
  notification-animation trails staying visible). 0.6.2 re-enabled real window
  transparency believing only the legacy render path ghosts; the field report
  shows the modern DMABUF path ghosts too on Wayland + WebKitGTK 2.52
  (tauri-apps/tauri#14924). Linux is opaque again (tauri.linux.conf.json is
  back, mirroring the 0.6.3 window geometry) with supports_transparency() false,
  so companion mode uses the simulated wallpaper backdrop — this time WITHOUT the
  legacy-renderer forcing that made that combination look broken in 0.6.1.
  Windows/macOS keep real transparency.

momPanel v0.6.3

Fixed

• Tiles no longer overlap themselves. The grid used bare 1fr tracks (which
  never shrink below content) and fixed-size gauges, so any tile whose stack was
  taller than its row — Storage with its four-line foot being the worst — spilled
  its ring over the title and its icon over the text. Tracks are now
  minmax(0, 1fr), every gauge/icon graphic is flex-shrinkable, and all rings share
  one size cap (5.5rem) so Memory/Storage/CPU/Volume rings match instead of the
  biggest-footed tile getting the smallest ring. Tiles also clip as a last resort —
  content can never bleed into a neighbor again.
• Storage tile restructured. The "X GB used of Y GB" detail moved under the
  drive icon (left of the ring) and the "tap the circle…" hint line moved into the
  tile's "?" help popup, so the foot is back to status + button. The ring keeps a
  proper size at every scale step.
• About/settings panel no longer squishes. The three settings columns now
  reflow (auto-fit) in narrow windows — notably Companion mode's 880px window —
  instead of crushing; selects are width-capped (their longest option no longer
  drags them over the neighboring column); the header action buttons wrap; the long
  Companion-mode checkbox label is now a short label plus a small note line.
• Windows: the ghost "Win95" title bar on the transparent window is gone.
  Undecorated windows get their DWM drop shadow via real frame styles (caption +
  sizing border); with a transparent webview that frame showed through — fully
  visible at high transparency and flashing during every window move. shadow is
  now false (the frame styles are never added). Costs the decorative drop shadow
  on Windows; Linux never had one.
• "Invisible" is now actually invisible. color-scheme: dark sat on :root,
  and both WebView2 and WebKitGTK paint the root color-scheme's canvas color behind
  a transparent page — the residual tint on Windows and Linux. The declaration
  moved to form controls + modals (dark dropdowns/pickers keep working); the page
  canvas is now truly transparent.
• Companion background steps respaced. The old scale bottomed out at 0.4 before
  jumping to 0, so "Very clear" still read as a heavy tint. New steps: 1 / 0.7 /
  0.45 / 0.25 / 0.1 / 0; values saved under the old scale snap to the closest step
  (unit-tested in tests/opacity.test.mjs).
• Scrollable popups (What's New, About) use a slim, arrowless scrollbar. The
  native bar painted a square gutter with arrow buttons over the card's rounded
  right edge; the new inset thumb keeps both corners round.
• Minimizing no longer makes momPanel reopen invisible. Windows "moves" a
  minimized window to (-32000, -32000) and WindowEvent::Moved reports it; the
  remember-my-position feature saved that spot, so the next launch restored the
  panel entirely off-screen. Parking coordinates are now rejected when saving AND
  when restoring, which also heals configs already poisoned by the old behavior
  (found live during 0.6.3 verification — the panel genuinely vanished).

Added

• What's New history. The popup now pages through every past release's notes
  via Older/Newer links (entries were always kept in changelog.js; only the
  latest was ever shown). Older entries get a 🕰️ header so they read as history,
  not a fresh update. Navigation helper unit-tested in tests/changelog.test.mjs.
• Companion mode: the controls gear docks under the "All is well" card instead
  of floating alone in the window corner — over a see-through sky the lone corner
  gear looked detached from the panel. Classic grid keeps the corner placement.
• Companion mode: "Make both sections the same height" (About → General): the
  health card stretches to the hero section's height (rows spread evenly) so the
  two sides read as one congruent layout. Off by default; config + partial-merge
  unit-tested.
• Companion mode: solid readability panels. Two new About → General toggles
  draw an opaque, tile-colored panel behind the time/weather section and/or the
  "All is well" card, so a busy wallpaper showing through a clear sky can't fight
  the text. Applied live, off by default (companion_solid_hero /
  companion_solid_health, round-trip unit-tested).

• Window is taller: 1100×760 (was 1100×680). 680 gave each grid row ~200px
  against ~300px of Storage-tile content — the original sin behind the overlap. On
  screens too short for a step, the existing fit logic shrinks window + font
  together, so small laptops still get the whole panel.
• Rewrote the stale Linux render-path comment in lib.rs that still described
  0.6.1's opaque-window setup and a tauri.linux.conf.json that no longer exists.

Fixed

• Real transparency on Linux. 0.6.1's diagnosis was wrong: buttons stayed dead
  with an opaque window, so transparency never broke input. The actual artifact
  source is the 0.3.1-era WEBKIT_DISABLE_DMABUF_RENDERER=1 workaround: on modern
  WebKitGTK (Zorin 18 / 2.48+) that forces a legacy render path that can't composite
  window alpha (black instead of see-through — the "Invisible shows black" report)
  and ghosts stale frames. The env override is now opt-in
  (MOMPANEL_LEGACY_RENDERER=1), tauri.linux.conf.json is removed (window
  transparent everywhere again), and supports_transparency returns true (the
  simulated-wallpaper fallback path remains in the frontend, dormant).
  Verified locally that the platform-config merge DOES apply (mirror test on
  Windows: override → opaque black window), so 0.6.1's Linux window really was
  opaque — matching the black-at-Invisible report.
• Stuck unread badge (red dot) on the dock. Memory-alert pulses spawned a new
  critical notification every ~30s with no id tracking; critical notifications
  never expire, so they piled up in the tray and pinned an unclearable badge.
  notify-send -p -r <id> now maintains ONE tracked notification per episode, and
  recovery/dismiss retract it via CloseNotification (safe to over-call).
• Wallpaper fallback correctness (dormant path): picture-uri-dark can point at
  a nonexistent file (seen on the target machine) — candidates are now
  existence-checked so a stale dark URI falls through to the light one; SVG
  wallpapers (Zorin defaults) gained a MIME mapping.

Added

• shortcuts.log field trace (config dir, 20 KB cap): every open_settings press
  logs invoke + spawn result, so the still-open "Linux buttons do nothing" report
  can be pinpointed to frontend-vs-backend with one click on the real machine. The
  render-path fix above is itself a plausible cure (legacy-renderer input bugs).

• Linux buttons work again. 0.6.0's transparent: true window broke input and
  produced ghost/stale-frame artifacts on Linux/WebKitGTK (known upstream:
  tauri-apps/tauri#14924, #13157 — the "you can see the About panel behind the sky"
  report was a stale-buffer ghost). Diagnosed on the target machine: spawning
  gnome-control-center/gnome-disks with the app's exact env works fine, so the
  webview, not the backend, was eating the clicks. A new tauri.linux.conf.json
  keeps the window opaque on Linux only; Windows/macOS keep real transparency.

• Simulated see-through on Linux. New desktop_background command returns the
  wallpaper (GNOME picture-uri, Windows registry, macOS System Events) as a data
  URL, cached by path+mtime; supports_transparency tells the frontend which mode
  the OS gets. In companion mode on Linux the wallpaper is drawn as the bottom
  layer, so "clear" skies reveal the desktop — and never other windows. A new
  "Invisible — just the desktop" option (opacity 0, backend clamp now 0.0–1.0)
  shows only the content over the desktop on every platform.
• Peek cards. Hovering a companion health row (Wi-Fi, Printer, Sound, Speed,
  Space, Internet) shows the corresponding classic tile — same renderer, same live

• Ink levels. The printers collector (Linux/macOS) queries the default queue's
  IPP marker attributes via ipptool (pure parse_marker_attrs + fixture tests;
  verified against the real ET-3760: K 49 / C 77 / M 80 / Y 80, low at 15). The
  Printers tile renders per-color ink bars with a "running low" note, and
  companion's Printer row goes amber "Ink low" with a calm attention card.

• macOS support (best-effort tier, like Windows). open_settings gains a macOS
  branch (open x-apple.systempreferences: extension URLs for wifi/sound/printers,
  Finder for storage) with the same allow-list pattern; open_github gains an open
  branch. Collectors: printers widened to any(linux, macos) (macOS ships CUPS — same
  lpstat output, device-URI probe included), volume via osascript (pure

momPanel v0.5.1

Fixed

• Printer no longer shows "ready" when it's powered off. A permanent CUPS queue
  (a driverless ipp:// queue backed by ipp-usb — used so the printer is always
  available to print to) always reports idle, so the Printers collector always
  reported "ready" even with the printer physically off. On Linux, read() now looks
  up each queue's device URI via lpstat -v and, for network backends
  (ipp/ipps/http/socket), TCP-probes the endpoint; a printer reported "ready"
  whose endpoint is unreachable is downgraded to "offline". ipp-usb only listens on its
  port while the printer is on, so the probe doubles as a reliable presence check. Local
  backends (usb://, hp:/, …) are left as-is, and out_of_paper/disabled states are
  never overridden. Adds helpers device_uris(), network_endpoint() (unit-tested), and
  endpoint_reachable() in collectors/printers.rs.

momPanel v0.5.0

Added

• Companion mode (experimental preview). A reimagined, status-by-exception panel
  (src/preview/companion.js/.css): a greeting and giant clock, the weather as the
  hero with a 4-day strip, and a single "All is well" health card (Internet / Wi-Fi /
  Printer / Sound / Speed / Space) that surfaces plain-language attention cards — with
  the right settings button — only when something needs attention. The background sky
  shifts with the time of day. Toggled in About → Preview (experimental_ui in
  config; the app reloads on switch). Same collectors, same cadences; DOM is patched
  in place, never rebuilt on a timer.
• Remembered window position. WindowEvent::Moved persists the outer position
  (throttled to ≥2s, flushed on close) to new window_x/window_y config fields and

• Single instance. tauri-plugin-single-instance, registered first in the builder;

• CI. .github/workflows/ci.yml runs cargo test + cargo check on PRs and
  pushes to main — the first automated Linux compile check for cfg(linux) code.

Fixed

• Locale-proof collectors. Every parsing subprocess spawn (nmcli, lpstat,
  wpctl) now pins LC_ALL=C/LANG=C. Previously the parsers matched English
  literals, so on any non-English system Printers listed nothing and Wi-Fi read
  "unavailable" while connected.
• Stale-response race. The tile loop tags each fetch with a generation and
  discards out-of-order responses — a slow 20s poll can no longer repaint "Offline"
  over a fresh D-Bus-pushed "Online" after a reconnect.
• First-run ZIP prompt lifecycle. Opening a new prompt cleanly resolves the
  previous one (no hung promise, no leaked document keydown listener), and the
  automatic prompt fires once per session instead of on every window focus after a
  cancel. The explicit set/change-location affordances still always prompt.
• Modal hygiene. A shared src/modal.js closes the active overlay before another
  opens (no stacked keydown listeners), and .modal-backdrop now layers above the
  bottom-right control pill (the "i" button was clickable through the backdrop).
• Clock/date rebuild churn. Both tiles patch their DOM in place instead of
  innerHTML-rebuilding every second — the analog/digital toggle keeps focus and hover,
  and the month calendar rebuilds once a day, not 86,400 times. The analog second hand
  is omitted under prefers-reduced-motion (previously claimed, not implemented).
• Weather robustness. A failed refresh keeps the last good forecast on screen with
  an "as of" time; the ZIP geocode is cached in config and Open-Meteo's geocoding API
  backs up zippopotam.us (no longer a single point of failure); one shared reqwest
  client instead of a fresh TLS setup per fetch; a missing ZIP shows a friendly
  "Set up weather" button instead of a dead tile.
• Memwatch efficiency. The watcher reloads config only when a save-generation
  counter changes (was: read + parse config.json from disk every 2 seconds,
  forever). Config writes are atomic (tmp + rename) and serialized so overlapping
  saves can't drop a patch or expose half-written JSON. Alert tone/speech play on a
  detached thread so the poll loop keeps ticking during playback.
• Internet probe. The TCP reachability verdict is cached for 20s and tries 443
  before 53 (some networks block outbound DNS to Cloudflare).
• Gauges no longer render a stray colored dot at 0% (round linecap on an empty arc);
  storage reports decimal GB to match GNOME Files/Disks; the What's New card caps
  its height and scrolls (a long release note pushed "Got it" off-screen); theme
  colors — including High contrast — now reach the internet globe, Wi-Fi arcs, and
  printer dots; muted volume shows a big crossed speaker and "Sound is off"; the
  size control clamps to the monitor (font + window shrink together) and no longer
  re-centers the window on a size change.

• Weather fallback provider. When Open-Meteo is unreachable, the collector now falls
  back to the US National Weather Service (api.weather.gov, no key, US-only).
  weather.rs splits the forecast into forecast_open_meteo() (primary) and
  forecast_nws() (fallback); NWS day/night periods are aggregated into per-date
  highs/lows and its shortForecast text is mapped to WMO codes via nws_code(), so both
  providers flow through the same condition()/icon path. Adds a User-Agent (required by
  NWS). Geocoding (zippopotam.us) is unchanged.

Fixed

• Weather no longer blanks the tile during an Open-Meteo outage (as happened 2026-07-04,
  when open-meteo's API was unreachable network-wide while everything else was healthy).
