Rusty Inbox 0.1.2
In-app updates, plus a reader fix.
New: Settings → Updates
- Shows the installed version, how this copy was installed, and when it last checked.
- Check now, or check automatically every day or every week. When a background check finds a release, a notice appears with a View button, and the Settings entry in the sidebar shows Update.
- What's new: the release notes, right in the app.
- One-click install, checked against the release's
SHA256SUMSbefore anything is replaced:- AppImage and Linux binary: swapped in place; click Restart now to use it. You can also turn on Install updates automatically to have new versions installed in the background, ready for the next launch.
- Windows (installer): the new installer runs silently and reopens the app.
- macOS: the new disk image is downloaded and opened.
- Flatpak, AUR / distribution packages, source builds: the app tells you a new version is out, and you update with
flatpak update, your package manager orgit pull.
rusty-inbox --check-updateruns the same check from a terminal.
Fixes
- Messages already downloaded open at once. The reader no longer waits for the mail engine, so it can't get stuck on "Loading…" while a sync is busy.
Privacy
The update check contacts GitHub's release API. Turn it off in Settings → Updates to have the app talk only to your mail servers.
Install
- Flatpak (self-hosted, signed):
flatpak install --user https://karem505.github.io/rusty-inbox/rusty-inbox.flatpakref. If you already have it, runflatpak update. - Linux: AppImage,
.flatpakbundle or tarball below, orcurl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/karem505/rusty-inbox/main/scripts/install.sh | sh. If you're already installed, add-s -- --update. - Windows:
setup.exeor the portable zip. - macOS:
.dmgfor Apple Silicon (arm64) or Intel (x86_64).
From this version on, updates can also be installed from inside the app. Checksums are in SHA256SUMS.

Rusty Inbox 0.1.1
Bug-fix release.
Fixes
- Mail sync no longer stalls. If a server accepted a connection and then stopped answering (hosting firewalls do this after several logins in a row), sync waited forever and no account received new mail. Connecting and the TLS handshake are now time-limited, and new connections to the same server are spaced at least 12 seconds apart, so several accounts on one host don't trigger the block.
- One stuck account no longer stops the others. Each account syncs in its own task with a 10-minute ceiling; a stuck or crashing account is retried on the next pass while the rest keep syncing.
- The window comes to the front when you open the app again from a keyboard shortcut, the launcher or a
mailto:link, including when it was hidden in the tray. The launcher's Wayland activation token is passed to the running copy, and on Hyprland the window is focused directly. install.sh --uninstall --method flatpakno longer removes a native install.
Troubleshooting
Logs, including crashes, now also go to a file: ~/.local/state/rusty-inbox/rusty-inbox.log on Linux (the platform's local data folder on Windows and macOS). Set RUSTY_INBOX_LOG=debug for more detail.
