I've been working on this since v2.0.2 but I wanted to keep this separate from the v2.0.3 bugfixes so I've been working on it in parallel. Anyway, I feel pretty good about making this as an RC so here it is!

I still felt there was room for improvement in the campaign fleet controls. The R2 button as the "navigate to point" button just felt weird, and it was only made necessary by the right joystick needing to be the "free look around" control. So I thought, why not do away with that and combine it with the point-and-click controls to make for a better user experience? So now:

  • The left joystick as the direct movement is now always the default, and the UI will return to it whenever navigating to the campaign view. But, clicking L3 shows the mouse cursor and turns on "free look" allowing you to pan around the entire viewable area around the ship. Then, you can click the 'A' button to navigate to that point. Clicking 'A' or pausing or opening a campaign tab and returning to the campaign fleet view will reset this and put the ship back into direct movement mode.
  • Right joystick works to zoom the view in and out only.
  • I thought it was weird that there's no use for the joystick while paused with this new strategy. So now, when paused, the cursor is always shown, but free look is off, so you are still able to push the cursor around and select a destination, even while paused.
Moving the 'navigate to point' button to 'A' of course meant the hotkey controls had to change. I think I found a better way for doing these:
  • Navigating between hotkeys is now done with L1 and R1. Activating the current hotkey is done with the 'Y' button. Since the right joystick only needs to be used sparingly, it means now you can keep your left thumb on the left joystick, and right thumb on the buttons, and not have to keep moving them in a high-stress situation like your fleet being chased.

That's it! I know these are big changes, and it needs some polish, like updating the button mapping diagrams - these will come by the time I'm ready for the full release! Just wanted some feedback! If I don't hear any negative feedback I'll probably be merging these changes to my master branch in a week or two.
