Democracy Defender Mod Manager (DDMM), release candidate 10: your mods, your democracy, defended. It's still an
early build, but it's meant to be usable by anyone, not just developers.

The DDMM Promise, in brief: every mod is welcome (DDMM never blocks, blacklists or ranks mods or mod sites),
no account is ever needed on any site, your files stay in a folder you control, it's Apache-2.0 open source
forever, and update checks never run unless you ask.

Quick start

  1. Download the right file for you (see the table below).
  2. Run it. DDMM looks for your Helldivers 2 install automatically. If Steam is in its usual place, there's
    nothing to set up.
  3. Add mods and click Deploy. Drag in an archive or folder, or click "Add URL" and paste a link.

Works with AyakaMods, Nexus Mods, ModWorkshop, GameBanana, GitHub, any direct link, or files already on your
disk.
Special love to the AyakaMods community ❤️, one of the best homes for Helldivers 2 modding. Go say hi:

Which file do I download?

You want... Download
A normal install on Windows (Start Menu shortcut, uninstaller) DDMM-2.0.0-rc.10-windows-x64-setup.exe
Windows without installing anything (unzip and run) DDMM-2.0.0-rc.10-windows-x64-portable.zip
Linux: Fedora, Nobara, openSUSE (dnf/zypper) DDMM-2.0.0-rc.10-linux-x86_64.rpm
Linux: Debian, Ubuntu, Mint (apt) DDMM-2.0.0-rc.10-linux-amd64.deb
Linux: other distros, no install (uses your desktop's graphics libraries) DDMM-2.0.0-rc.10-linux-x86_64.AppImage
Linux: Arch/CachyOS, or just the binary (needs WebKitGTK 4.1) DDMM-2.0.0-rc.10-linux-x64.tar.gz

Linux install commands, the dependencies for each distro, and fixes for a blank window or AppImage/FUSE errors
are in Installing on Linux.

One-click install (optional): also grab the browser extension: ddmm-extension-chrome-1.0.0.zip
(Chrome, Edge, Brave) or ddmm-extension-firefox-1.0.0.zip (Firefox). See
One-click install.

Check SHA256SUMS.txt if you want to verify your download.

What's new in 2.0.0-rc.10

This release is mostly about safety. We did a full QA pass over everything added since rc.6 and fixed what we found.
Updating is recommended for everyone.

Safer installs and deletes

  • A mod whose file name was only dots (like ...zip) could make DDMM delete other installed mods, or even your
whole DDMM data folder. Mod folder names are now always made safe, and every delete checks that it only removes
one mod folder inside DDMM's mod storage.
  • DDMM never deletes a folder it didn't create. If a folder with the same name is already there, the new mod gets
    a name like "Name (2)".
  • An update can no longer give a mod the same ID as a different mod you have installed.
  • If DDMM closed or crashed in the middle of an update, the leftover copy could show up as a second mod. Leftovers
are now recovered at startup, and DDMM always keeps your mod rather than tidying it away.

Cleaner names (#33)

Nexus downloads without a name inside them showed the raw download name, like EAGLE-2-1065-V1-1-1752787902.
They now show as EAGLE-2, and DDMM remembers the Nexus page so "Check for Updates" works. Mods you already
installed keep their old name. Rename or reinstall them if you like.

One-click install and the browser extension

  • Installing a second file from the same mod page (a 2k and a 4k version, main and optional files) no longer
replaces the first one. Only the same file updates in place.
  • During a browser update, a file from a different Nexus mod is no longer installed over the mod you're updating.
  • The extension no longer says DDMM is unreachable while an install is waiting for you to confirm.
  • GitHub mods installed through the extension now remember the version you actually installed.
  • Files the extension just installed are no longer offered again by "Auto-import from Downloads".
  • Skipping an update (Skip) now treats v1.2 and 1.2 as the same version.

Import and the data folder

  • The Import Mods window can now import a newer version of a mod you have. "Same as" only means an identical copy.
  • Dropping files while the Import Mods window was open could make it import the wrong mods. Fixed.
  • Importing a single mod's folder now imports it as one mod, and an imported load order now keeps its order.
  • A scan that's stopped or fails no longer shows "Looking for mods..." forever.
  • Windows: if you moved your data folder, the note that remembers where it is was kept inside the old default
folder. Deleting that folder made DDMM start with an empty library. The note now lives next to it instead
(%APPDATA%\io.github.katsyk.ddmm.location), and the old one is kept too, so going back to rc.9 still works.
  • Mods that can't be found (for example, a broken manifest) now stay in your profiles as "Mod not found" instead
of losing their place in the load order. Deploying a profile where every mod is missing is refused, instead of
    clearing the game's mods.

Thanks to everyone testing and reporting, and to @Jordach for confirming the rc.9 install fixes. o7

Known limitations

  • Windows builds are unsigned. Windows SmartScreen will likely show a warning the first time you run the
installer or the app. Click "More info" → "Run anyway" to continue.
  • The Linux .rpm and .deb are unsigned, so openSUSE needs zypper install --allow-unsigned-rpm.
  • This is still a release candidate. Expect some rough edges, and please report what you find.
