DDMM 2.0.0-rc.7
Pre-releaseDemocracy Defender Mod Manager (DDMM), release candidate 7: your mods, your democracy, defended. It's still an
early build, but it's meant to be usable by anyone, not just developers.
The DDMM Promise, in brief: every mod is welcome (DDMM never blocks, blacklists or ranks mods or mod sites),
no account is ever needed on any site, your files stay in a folder you control, it's Apache-2.0 open source
forever, and update checks never run unless you ask.
Quick start
- Download the right file for you (see the table below).
- Run it. DDMM looks for your Helldivers 2 install automatically. If Steam is in its usual place, there's
nothing to set up. - Add mods and click Deploy. Drag in an archive or folder, or click "Add URL" and paste a link.
Works with AyakaMods, Nexus Mods, ModWorkshop, GameBanana, GitHub, any direct link, or files already on your
disk. Special love to the AyakaMods community ❤️, one of the best homes for Helldivers 2 modding. Go say hi:

What's new in 2.0.0-rc.7
Important fix: a mods folder could fill the whole disk
Versions up to and including 2.0.0-rc.6 had a bug: using Add Folder (or dragging a folder in) on DDMM's own
mods/ folder, or on a folder that contains it, made DDMM copy that folder into itself, over and over, until the
disk filled up. Two related bugs could also delete the folder you were adding. All three are fixed: DDMM now
refuses any copy or move that overlaps its own mod storage and explains what to pick instead (#29).
If you were affected: your real mods are untouched — only one extra nested folder appeared directly inside
mods/. Delete just that one folder:
- Linux:
rm -rf -- "/full/path/to/mods/mods" - Windows (Command Prompt, not PowerShell — the
\\?\prefix handles very long paths):
rmdir /s /q "\\?\C:\full\path\to\mods\mods"
Full step-by-step cleanup, including what to do if the folder is too deep or too big to delete normally, is in
Troubleshooting.
New: choose where DDMM keeps its data
Settings → Data Folder now has Change..., Open, and Reset to Default. Moving is safe: DDMM copies
your mods, settings and profiles to the new location, verifies everything arrived, and only then switches over and
deletes the old copy — nothing is lost if the move is interrupted. Pointing DDMM at a folder that already holds
DDMM data (say, from another install) offers to adopt it in place instead of copying. If the chosen folder's drive
is missing at startup (an unplugged USB drive), a recovery screen lets you retry, locate it, or fall back to the
default (#31).
See Data folder for the full picture.
New, optional: sign in to Nexus Mods
Settings now has a Sign in to Nexus Mods button for update checks — shown as "Coming soon" until it's turned
on for this build. A personal Nexus API key still works exactly as before and is never required either way (#28).
Under the hood
Release packaging now only ever attaches the expected downloads plus SHA256SUMS.txt to a release — a CI issue
that let stray smoke-test log files slip into the rc.6 release assets is fixed (#30).
Known limitations
- Windows builds are unsigned. Windows SmartScreen will likely show a warning the first time you run the
installer or the app. Click "More info" → "Run anyway" to continue. - The Linux .rpm and .deb are unsigned, so openSUSE needs
zypper install --allow-unsigned-rpm. - This is still a release candidate. Expect some rough edges, and please report what you find.
