dent v0.0.6
Leave a dent. Let it guide you back in the file multiverse.
Changes
dent travelreturns to a dent;dent eraseerases dents from the trail.- History lives in
.dent-history/. Dent finds the nearest history upward and announces when using a parent trail. - Parent dents include nested files and nested histories; travel can restore or remove both.
- Failed or oversized file reads no longer become empty files in successful dents.
- Travel reads the complete destination before changing files, handles file/directory transitions, rejects symlink destinations, and reports I/O failures.
- Retention preserves the travel destination; erase counts actual dents and maintains
latestcorrectly. - Notes are validated before publication.
- Built with Zig 0.17.0 and zstd bindings generated by pinned
translate_c2.0.2.
Breaking changes and limits
There are no legacy command aliases or automatic history migrations. Previous .dent-files/ directories are not discovered as active history.
The current per-file limit is 256 MiB, including nested history files. Notes allow 446 UTF-8 bytes. The trail normally keeps 50 dents. Travel is not an all-or-nothing filesystem transaction: a later I/O failure may leave partial changes and is reported as an error.
Downloads
macOS and Linux binaries are provided for ARM64 and x86-64. SHA-256 digests are in checksums.txt.
dent v0.0.5 — leave a dent.
Leave a dent before your agent changes course, so it can find its way back.
- Renamed checkpoint/check to dent.
- New help, compact trail entries, and consistent save/diff/rollback output.
- Existing .checkpoint-files data stays usable in place.
- Install: brew install kaxing/toolbox/dent
- Built with Zig 0.16.0 for macOS and Linux (ARM64 and x86-64).
- Integration checks passed on macOS ARM64 and Linux ARM64/x86-64, including old-check checkpoint recovery on macOS.
Full rollback preserves changed current state as unless already saved. Single-file rollback does not auto-save. Dents are local recovery points, not backups.
