Alpha 8 Release

This new release of MPD Viewer has global mute/umute and moves window status to the top of the MPD Viewer window. And more behind the scenes changes.

Download the windows zip file from the "assets" section below (MPD_Viewer-v0.1.0-alpha.8-Windows-x64.zip ) to run MPD Viewer.

Detailed Release Notes

MPD Viewer v0.1.0-alpha.8 from 4ae62288b2ecbb9e7b792b8738cb6cf6822e4549.

Manual-test alpha for all three desktop families. Windows: signed x64 ZIP. macOS: UNSIGNED and not notarized Apple Silicon and Intel app ZIPs. Linux: UNSIGNED x64 DEB/AppImage with SHA-256 checksums. The macOS and Linux filenames and metadata intentionally identify their trust state.

Close the old app, extract the Windows ZIP, and run MPD_Viewer.exe. Existing preferences are preserved. This is a ZIP distribution, not an installer.

For macOS, extract the app ZIP; because it has no Developer ID signature or notarization, expect Gatekeeper to warn or block it. Use it only on a test system and record the exact result. Linux testers can use the DEB or AppImage after verifying SHA256SUMS.txt.

Compared with alpha.7, this release adds native mute controls for full-page viewer windows, clearer current-session status and the configured rescan interval in the manager, refreshed locked application and CI dependencies, and more resilient cross-platform GUI evidence and release CI. Current functionality includes isolated native GUI end-to-end coverage on Windows, macOS and Linux and full Twitch channel pages as the default viewer. The same executable retains embedded mode behind --embedded-viewer. Optional per-channel timers (Always, 10 minutes, or custom minutes) rotate assignments to the next eligible live favorite. Pause automation freezes timers; paused video still consumes assignment time. Windows monitoring authorization is now stored in Windows Credential Manager and restored on startup. Upgrading from older memory-only builds needs one final authorization. Disconnect removes that saved monitoring authorization, separately from Twitch website sign-in.

For web viewers, use Twitch's own volume and quality controls. Avatar menu > Dark Theme selects Twitch's remembered appearance; the manager follows Windows. Central audio/quality controls remain available for embedded mode, including the closest available resolution preference. No unsupported Twitch player API or website styling is injected into full channel pages.

Windows native checks observed authorization surviving multiple restarts, remembered full-page/chat dark appearance, a one-minute live-channel rotation, paused timer accounting, and the embedded launch flag. Automated policy, UI, vault and recovery tests also pass. See the tagged integration verification notes for the precise evidence and unobserved cases.

Alpha limitations: grid mode is not implemented. Twitch decides rewards, streaks and watch-time eligibility; assignment timers do not measure credited watch time. Twitch navigation or raids may leave the original MPD assignment; Retry returns to the assigned channel. Web mode has no central programmatic volume/quality control or automatic Windows-to-Twitch theme matching. macOS/Linux secure authorization persistence is not implemented. Native network-outage and OS sleep recovery, chat posting and fresh-profile login/MFA remain unobserved. The legacy embedded SDK-reported volume mismatch remains a known limitation; use Twitch's visible controls to check actual audio.

Source archives are review material, not signed executables or website deployments. Verify SHA256SUMS.txt and BUILD-METADATA.json against the downloaded files.

Windows x64 alpha from commit 7afe93c299accb0baaae4fd99df5687334bd5bfb.

Download MPD_Viewer-v0.1.0-alpha.6-Windows-x64.zip, close the old app, extract the ZIP, and run MPD_Viewer.exe. Existing preferences and Windows sign-in storage are preserved. Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime is required. This is a portable ZIP distribution, not an installer.

Big changes

Switched to full page render instead of embedded twitch viewer so channel points and streaking work. Use twitches dark/light mode preferences instead of os. Lots of end to end test updates.

Detailed changes since alpha.4

  • Fixed a local HTTP-server concurrency issue that could stall resource loading when opening multiple embedded/demo viewers.
  • Added native GUI E2E coverage on Windows, macOS and Linux, including ranking, timers, viewer lifecycle, persistence, recovery and permission checks. The automation driver is excluded from normal and release builds.

The earlier alpha.5 release produced no binary assets because its tag did not match the source version. This is the next signed Windows build after alpha.4; the old tag has been preserved.

Verification

  • Windows executable: independently verified valid Authenticode signature from Kenneth Caruso, with a Microsoft timestamp. Windows ZIP SHA-256: f33a2b685448c2f90e89333475746edf8203dedc781853ef58fb2c9e623bde0f.

  • Exact-candidate extended GUI run: Windows 26/26; macOS ARM, macOS Intel and Linux each 24/24. Cleanup, original IPC permission probes and production-driver exclusion passed.

  • Candidate source/native checks passed all four platforms. Tagged build/signing/publication workflow.

  • One separate macOS ARM smoke attempt timed out waiting for a driverless permission-probe result. Its unchanged diagnostic rerun passed all 22 cases, as did the extended run. The original timeout is retained as an unexplained test limitation; it is not counted as a pass. No concrete Windows release defect was established by independent review.

GUI tests use local fixtures and do not establish live Twitch login, playback or rewards behavior. Source archives, BUILD-METADATA.json, and SHA256SUMS.txt support review and file verification; the source archives are not signed executables or website deployments.

Alpha limitations

Only the signed Windows x64 binary is distributed. macOS/Linux binary packages are not included. Grid mode remains unimplemented. Full Twitch channel pages are the default; embedded mode remains available through --embedded-viewer. Use Twitch's own volume, quality and Dark Theme controls in web mode.

Twitch determines watch time, rewards and streak eligibility; MPD assignment timers do not measure credited watch time. Windows monitoring authorization and Twitch website sign-in remain separate. macOS/Linux secure authorization persistence is not implemented. Live network-outage/OS-sleep recovery, chat posting and fresh-profile login/MFA are not newly verified by this release's fixture tests. The legacy embedded SDK-reported volume mismatch remains a known limitation.

MPD Viewer v0.1.0-alpha.4 from 7556f866eae58c0b993bb1fe64cab4c9fab32778.

Windows-only alpha: signed x64 ZIP, requires Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime. macOS and Linux binaries are not included.

Close the old app, extract the Windows ZIP, and run MPD_Viewer.exe. Existing preferences are preserved. This is a ZIP distribution, not an installer.

New since alpha.3: full Twitch channel pages are now the default viewer. The same executable retains embedded mode behind --embedded-viewer. Optional per-channel timers (Always, 10 minutes, or custom minutes) rotate assignments to the next eligible live favorite. Pause automation freezes timers; paused video still consumes assignment time. Windows monitoring authorization is now stored in Windows Credential Manager and restored on startup. Upgrading from older memory-only builds needs one final authorization. Disconnect removes that saved monitoring authorization, separately from Twitch website sign-in.

For web viewers, use Twitch's own volume and quality controls. Avatar menu > Dark Theme selects Twitch's remembered appearance; the manager follows Windows. Central audio/quality controls remain available for embedded mode, including the closest available resolution preference added since alpha.3. No unsupported Twitch player API or website styling is injected into full channel pages.

MPD Viewer v0.1.0-alpha.3 from 69d8cf0255806159e2bed43eee63d91eb2c51dcf.

New since alpha.2: drag channels by their row or grip to change priority, with a visible insertion line and the existing up/down arrows retained. Live viewer counts now appear in the channel list and each active viewer's title bar, updating with the existing monitoring checks. Stale counts are labeled; unavailable and demo counts are hidden. Counts do not change channel priority.

The existing Twitch connection flow, chat, MPD branding, preferences and viewer browser profile are preserved. API authorization remains in memory; reconnect after quitting. The new features passed automated logic/browser checks and native builds; native drag behavior and live viewer-title updates still need hands-on acceptance.

Alpha limitations: grid mode is not implemented. Chat sign-in popups remain unsupported; chat posting, fresh-profile login/MFA and Turbo remain unverified. The native volume API previously reported 50% despite a requested 25%; check audio using Twitch's visible controls. Unified connection is Windows-only; cross-platform compilation does not establish live playback or login acceptance.

Source archives are review material, not signed executables or website deployments. Verify SHA256SUMS.txt and BUILD-METADATA.json against the downloaded files.

Adds MPD logo/colors and a unified Windows Twitch connection flow with the fixed application ID. Fixes activation links, authorization redirects and return navigation. The connection window closes after authorization and return navigation complete. Per-channel chat and the earlier player startup fix are retained.

Windows activation, shared website-session recognition and restart persistence were user-confirmed. Automatic window closing passed code/lifecycle checks but still awaits a complete user acceptance test. API authorization remains in memory; reconnect after quitting. Existing preferences and the viewer browser profile are preserved.

Alpha limitations: grid mode is not implemented. Chat sign-in popups remain unsupported; chat posting, fresh-profile login/MFA and Turbo remain unverified. The native volume API previously reported 50% despite a requested 25%; check audio using Twitch's visible controls. Unified connection is Windows-only; cross-platform compilation does not establish live playback or login acceptance.
