Cleankey 1.0

The first full release of Cleankey.

Cleankey locks your keyboard from the menu bar so you can wipe down the keys without triggering anything. Flip the toggle on, clean, flip it off. The mouse keeps working the whole time, which is how you switch it back off.

Blocks every key, including modifiers and the media keys, so wiping the top row won't change your volume or brightness.

Open at Login, so it's waiting for you if you want it.

Check for Updates asks GitHub whether a newer release exists and tells you what it found. It installs nothing on its own.

Lives entirely in the menu bar. No Dock icon, no app switcher entry.

Requirements

macOS 14.0 (Sonoma) or later. Apple Silicon and Intel.

Install

Download Cleankey-1.0.zip, drop Cleankey.app into /Applications, and open it.

Cleankey needs two permissions from macOS, and it asks for both on first run:

• Device Control and Data Access (called Accessibility on macOS 15 and earlier) lets Cleankey suppress key events
• Input Monitoring lets Cleankey receive them

Grant both, then quit Cleankey and open it again. macOS applies new permissions only to a fresh launch, so the toggle keeps failing until you do. If it ever refuses to switch on, the menu names the permission that's missing.

This build is signed with a Developer ID certificate and notarized by Apple, so it opens without a Gatekeeper warning.
