kndl 2026.10.6
Highlights
- Measuring Archived Sessions' disk no longer floods a Runner with file reads. The size shown in the archive list used to open up to 32 reads at every level of a Session's directory tree, so deep trees multiplied into thousands at once. Now a Runner reads at most 32 paths at a time for the whole measurement.
- A Session already being measured isn't measured twice. Opening the archive list again while sizes were still loading used to ask the Runner a second time; now it waits on the ask already under way, which always ends within 30 seconds.
- An offline Runner's Archived Sessions show their size as unknown. Before, a cached size could still be shown after its Runner went offline.
- A Runner reporting a negative load average no longer breaks its Monitor. Before, one such sample was stored and the Runner's history then failed to load until that point aged out; now the sample is rejected.
- Screen readers announce an Archived Session's size, as "Disk used by : ".
runner
- runner, hub, web, protocol, docs: measuring Archived Sessions' disk asks a Runner once and walks a few dozen files at a time (#358)
Changes since v2026.10.5
kndl 2026.10.5
Highlights
- A Session runs on its Creator's setup token, and only its Creator drives it. Each Session now uses the Claude credential of the person who created it, and other people watching can no longer send it prompts.
- Runners report their disk, memory and load. A Runner's row opens a Monitor with tiles and charts, keeps a week of disk-free history, and warns when disk is low.
- Archived Sessions show their disk use, and anyone who sees one can purge it. The archive list shows how much Runner disk each Archived Session takes, and purging frees that space.
hub
- hub, web, protocol, docs: anyone who sees an Archived Session can purge it now, to free its Runner's disk (#351) (#354)
runner
- runner, hub, web, protocol, docs: the archive list shows how much Runner disk each Archived Session takes (#352) (#355)
- runner, hub, web, protocol, docs: Runners report sysinfo, with a week of disk-free history and a low-disk warning (#350) (#353)
- runner, hub, web, mod, protocol, docs: a Session runs on its Creator's setup token, and only its Creator drives it (#335) (#347)
web
- web, hub, protocol, docs: a Runner's Monitor opens under its row, with tiles and charts of its disk, memory and load (#356) (#357)
docs
- docs: research what microsandbox's Sandbox.fork copies (#332) (#349)
- docs: retake the Account and Runners screenshots (#346) (#348)

kndl 2026.10.4
Highlights
- Haiku 5.5, and Claude Code 2.1.296 in every Session. Sessions used to run Claude Code 2.1.289, where Haiku was Haiku 4.5 with no effort level. They now run 2.1.296: the model picker offers Haiku 5.5, which takes an effort level like the others. Runners download the new build the first time a Session starts.
- Installing on Linux finishes. Onboarding and
kndl doctor --fixfailed withsudo: a terminal is required to read the password, and builds failed withbun: command not foundright afterinstall.shinstalled Bun. Now sudo and polkit can ask for a password and the builds find Bun. A Runner that is already in thekvmgroup is told to reboot instead of being offered the same fix again.install.shuses mise for Bun when it finds it.
runner
- runner, mod: Sessions run Claude Code 2.1.296, with Haiku 5.5, and a script for the model table (#330)
cli
- cli, repo, docs: onboard on Linux can ask sudo for a password, builds find Bun, and install.sh uses mise (#331)

kndl 2026.10.3
Highlights
- A smaller model picker, with effort on a slider. The composer used to have one large menu with a line under every model and an Effort submenu. Now it has two small buttons: the model, in a menu of names, and the effort level, on a stepped slider. Arrow keys move the slider, and Enter, a click or closing the popover sets the level. Escape leaves it as it was. During a running Turn, "Switch the model?" now asks once, not once per step.
- The Hub's version in the sidebar. The sidebar now shows which version of kndl the Hub runs, with its Channel.
web
- web: the model and effort as two small pickers, effort on a slider (#128) (#329)
- web, protocol: the Hub's version in the sidebar, with its Channel (#326)
repo
- repo: issue and pull request templates, and Discussions while they're locked (#327)
- repo, docs: a do-release skill, and the release steps learned from v2026.10.1 and .2 (#325)
Changes since v2026.10.2
kndl 2026.10.2
Highlights
- Queued prompts no longer get stuck, or run again. A prompt queued for a Session that was waking up could stay in the queue forever and be sent again on every Hub or Runner restart. Now its Turn is reported even when it starts before the Session links to the Hub, and the mod never runs a prompt it was given once already.
- No more "This session transcript was lost". A
clauderun inside a Session (by a script, a hook or Claude itself) could take over the Session's link to the Hub. The Session then woke into that other conversation. Now only the conversation the Runner launched links. kndl updateworks the first time on macOS. It no longer fails withBootstrap failed: 5: Input/output errorwhen it loads the new Hub before launchd has finished unloading the old one.
cli
mod
- mod, hub: don't run a prompt the Hub delivers again (#323) (#324)
- mod, runner: link only the conversation the Runner launched (#321) (#322)
- mod: post the Turns a woken Session starts before hub-link links (#317) (#318)

Highlights
The first Release of kndl, and its first as open source (MIT).
kndl runs Claude Code Sessions in Sandboxes on machines you own, and lets your team watch and drive them together from the browser.
- Try it on one machine, then remove it:
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/kddige/kndl/main/install.sh | sh, thenkndl onboard.kndl uninstall --purgeremoves it all. See the Quickstart. - Multiplayer Sessions: everyone with access to a Repo sees its Sessions live, queues prompts, steers the running Turn, answers Claude's questions and types into its terminal, subagents included.
- A Sandbox per Session: Claude Code and everything it runs live in a microVM on a Runner, built from the Repo's Environment. The Claude credential stays outside it.
- Your machines, your Claude: a self-hosted Hub, Runners on a Mac with Apple Silicon or on Linux with KVM, and each person's own Claude subscription or API key.
- Releases and Channels: new installs follow
stable, the latest Release.kndl update --channel devfollowsmaininstead. Runners follow their Hub.
kndl is early: expect settings to change between Releases. Report security issues privately; see SECURITY.md.
