KeepKey Desktop 1.6.1
Fixes
- PIN entry no longer loops. After several wrong PINs the KeepKey makes you wait before asking again. Desktop now waits that out instead of giving up, and it asks again after every wrong PIN.
- "Forgot PIN → Wipe" works. Desktop tells you to confirm on the device, shows an error if the wipe fails, and brings the PIN prompt back if you cancel on the device.
- Linux starts again. It had been broken since 1.5.2.
- No more false $0.00. When a chain can't be reached, the total reads "≥ $…" and that chain shows "—", never 0.
- Firmware updates on unreliable USB. The firmware upload timeout from 1.5.8 is restored, so a slow upload can't strand the device mid-flash.
- Setup stays on screen when you unplug. During setup and firmware updates, unplugging to enter bootloader mode no longer drops you into a read-only portfolio.
- Enabling a passphrase asks for the PIN once, not twice.
- Returning to the KeepKey tab no longer reloads balances. Only the refresh button does.
Improvements
- New-device check: setup opens with a Genuine KeepKey check. Desktop verifies KeepKey's release signatures on the firmware it is about to install, and on the firmware already on the device.
- Clearer PIN screens: "Create a NEW PIN" (step 1 of 2), then "Enter the SAME PIN again", with a link to how scrambled PIN entry works.
- Recovery keypad: it now matches the KeepKey's own two-row layout, and Backspace on an empty word takes you back to the previous word.
- Downgrade warning: flashing an older firmware file says plainly that the downgrade will wipe the device, and shows the firmware currently installed.
- Unplugging: you return to the home screen. Watch-only opens when you pick a wallet tile.
- New wallets: they show 0 balances right away while Desktop confirms.
Supported firmware
- Devices: firmware 7.14.1 with bootloader 2.1.4 is offered and installed. Features for 7.15 and later stay off until a device reports that firmware.
- "Unknown bootloader. Contact support." on the KeepKey screen: unplug, hold the button, plug in, and install the latest firmware with Desktop. Your wallet is kept. This happens when firmware older than 7.3.2 runs on a newer bootloader.
