Release Notes for SFTP Client v2.0

Overview

We are excited to announce the release of version 2.0 of our SFTP Client. This release brings a more streamlined and user-friendly interface, thanks to the transition from tkinter to PySimpleGUI. Alongside UI improvements, under-the-hood operations remain robust with the trusted paramiko library for SFTP operations.

Major Changes

  1. Switched GUI Library:

    • Previously: The application was built using the standard tkinter library.
    • Now: We've transitioned to PySimpleGUI, making the interface more intuitive and the codebase cleaner.
  2. Refined Design Pattern:

    • Previously: Used an OOP-based approach consistent with tkinter standards.
    • Now: Adopted a more procedural design pattern with PySimpleGUI, enabling faster development and easier maintenance.
  3. Simplified UI Widgets:

    • Previously: Employed traditional tkinter widgets like Label, Entry, Button, Listbox, etc.
    • Now: Leveraged PySimpleGUI's widgets which offer an abstraction over tkinter, resulting in a more concise UI definition.

Minor Changes

  • Improved error handling to provide more informative feedback to the user.
  • Enhanced code readability and maintainability by leveraging PySimpleGUI's intuitive layout definition.
  • Retained the SFTPClient class to ensure robust SFTP operations, ensuring the reliability of core functionalities.

Bug Fixes

  • Addressed issues with DNS resolution for more reliable connections.
  • Enhanced stability during file uploads and downloads.

Conclusion

This release marks a significant step in improving the user experience and maintainability of the SFTP Client application. We'd like to thank our community for their continuous feedback and support. As always, if you encounter any issues or have suggestions, please raise an issue on GitHub.
