v1.8.0 — Grid your way

Choose a tag to compare

@keweis2 keweis2 released this 08 Jul 15:29
2b90e70

Take control of how your library looks, with more polish throughout.

✨ New

  • Quick view options on the game grid — press Select on any system's games to open a controller-first menu:
    • Grid size slider — make tiles bigger or smaller; it snaps to clean layouts so the grid always lines up.
    • Sort by — Favorites, Recently played, Recently added, or Alphabetical.
  • Box art that fits every system — covers now take each console's real box shape (GameCube tall, Game Boy square, SNES/N64 landscape, PS1 near-square…), measured from your actual art so nothing gets cropped. Landscape systems get larger, properly-sized tiles.

🛠 Fixes & polish

  • Back no longer gets stuck on the game detail page after launching a game or returning from Home.
  • Detail-page cover now matches the system's box shape, like the grid.
  • Refreshed screenshots and docs (RetroAchievements + Save Sync).

Includes everything from 1.7.0 (Otto-guided onboarding, auto-detect, Save Sync).

Install: download app-debug.apk below and open it on your device. Installs right over 1.7.x — your library, settings, RetroAchievements login and Save Sync config are kept.

v1.7.0 — Meet Otto: a friendlier first run

Choose a tag to compare

@keweis2 keweis2 released this 07 Jul 19:03
785b8b1

A completely reworked first-run experience — quick to set up, and fun.

✨ New

  • Otto the mascot guides you through setup with speech bubbles and reactions (and cheers you on at the finish).
  • Auto-detects your games — eOr looks in the usual places and finds your ROMs folder for you. Just tap "Yes, that's them!" — no folder picker to wrestle. No games yet? One tap creates a starter folder.
  • Simpler by default — ScreenScraper login and a custom artwork folder are tucked into an optional Advanced section, so most people never have to think about them.
  • A payoff at the end — a live count-up of your games while everything sets up, then confetti, a sound, and a little buzz with a big Let's Play!.
  • Sound + haptics throughout onboarding (silent when your device is muted), plus on-screen A / B controller and touch hints.
  • "Try again" on any setup step that doesn't succeed.

🛠 Under the hood

  • New DetectRomFolderUseCase, Mascot, Confetti, and SoundPlayer.
  • Setup pipeline (scan → detect emulators → scan Android games → download box art in the background) unchanged and reused.

Install: download app-debug.apk below and open it on your device. Installs right over 1.6.x — your library, RetroAchievements login, and Save Sync settings are kept.

v1.6.3 — fix launcher frozen after returning from a game

@keweis2 keweis2 released this 07 Jul 17:58
bcd78f1

eOr 1.6.3

Bug fix.

  • Fixed the launcher becoming unresponsive to the controller after returning from a game (notably after long PS2 sessions). eOr now re-grabs controller focus whenever it comes back to the foreground, so navigation keeps working instead of appearing frozen.

Install the attached app-debug.apk.

v1.6.2 — cold-start loading screen fix + tab background blur

Choose a tag to compare

@keweis2 keweis2 released this 07 Jul 13:31
7553674

eOr 1.6.2

Patch release with fixes.

  • Loading screen now displays on cold start on all devices (including Retroid handhelds, where the system splash wasn't rendering) — so game artwork is warmed before Home appears instead of popping in.
  • Background is now blurred and faded on every view except the main Games tab (console selection), keeping that screen crisp while the rest stays calm.

Install the attached app-debug.apk.

v1.6.1 — RetroAchievements progress fix + header polish

@keweis2 keweis2 released this 07 Jul 12:56
12cd028

eOr 1.6.1

Patch release with fixes.

  • RetroAchievements: recently-played games no longer show 0/0 — the achievement counts, points and progress bars now populate correctly (a field-name mismatch against the RA API was returning empty counts).
  • Game view: more space below the settings button in the header when browsing a system, and a slightly larger breadcrumb.

Install the attached app-debug.apk.

v1.6.0 — Save Sync: cross-device emulator save syncing

Choose a tag to compare

@keweis2 keweis2 released this 07 Jul 12:44
1d7b840

eOr 1.6.0

Save Sync — sync your emulator saves across devices

A new Settings → Save Sync tab that keeps your saves and save-states in sync between your devices, powered by an embedded Syncthing daemon. Off by default.

  • Detection — shows each installed emulator as Ready, Needs setup, or Blocked, honouring Android's storage rules (Android 11+ blocks some emulators' private storage). RetroArch and other shared-storage emulators sync directly.
  • Peer-to-peer, private — no accounts, no cloud. Runs the official Syncthing daemon as a background service.
  • Easy pairing — show a QR on one device and scan it on the other (or paste the ID). Devices link as introducers so everything shares automatically.
  • Safe for existing saves — takes a backup before the first sync and surfaces any conflicts to resolve.
  • Battery-friendly — optional only on Wi-Fi and only while charging.

The Syncthing daemon is fetched from the official syncthing-android release at build time.

Install the attached app-debug.apk.

v1.5.0 — Custom branded background, update notifications & grid paging

Choose a tag to compare

@keweis2 keweis2 released this 06 Jul 19:20
fba4255

eOr 1.5.0

Custom branded background — In Settings → Background, upload an image that's converted to a single-colour silhouette matching light/dark mode, or use the default eOr donkey silhouette. Choose Fill or Tile layout and adjust opacity. Off by default; blurred and faded on the game grid and game detail screens so it stays subtle.

Update notifications — On launch the app checks GitHub Releases and, when a newer version is available, shows a system notification and an in-app banner linking to the release.

Controls — L2/R2 now page through the game grid a screenful at a time.

Fixes — Selected top-row games no longer clip under the header; rounded the donkey logo's ears.

Install the attached app-debug.apk.

v1.4.0 — First-launch onboarding & scroll/video polish

Choose a tag to compare

@keweis2 keweis2 released this 03 Jul 12:41
c1c1b3e
  • First-launch onboarding wizard — the very first time you open eOr, a guided setup walks you through it: pick your ROM library folder (leave blank and we create a ROMs folder with a sub-folder for every supported console), pick your media folder and optionally enter your ScreenScraper login (leave blank and we make one for you), then choose light or dark mode. A setup screen then runs your ROM scan, emulator detection, Android games scan, and media download with live progress. You can jump into the app as soon as the scans finish — the media download keeps going in the background and sends a notification when it's done.
  • Smarter grid scrolling — the selected game now sits in the second row with a row of context above it, so the grid only scrolls once you move past the second row instead of jumping on the very first press.
  • Smoother exit from game details — leaving a game's detail screen no longer briefly hangs while the preview video tears down.
  • Media folder check spinner — Settings → Media now shows a loading spinner next to "Checking folder for existing media…" while it scans.

Install: download app-debug.apk below.

v1.3.4 — Custom media storage, auto-import & crash fix

Choose a tag to compare

@keweis2 keweis2 released this 30 Jun 22:40
aa951b5
  • Custom media storage folder — in Settings → Media, choose where scraped box art, screenshots and videos are saved (e.g. your SD card) via the Android folder picker. Optional; defaults to internal storage.
  • Automatic media import — if the folder you pick already contains an ES-DE media library, eOr imports it automatically. The separate "Import" tab has been removed.
  • RetroAchievements tab toggle — Settings → General now lets you show or hide the RetroAchievements tab on the home screen (the old "Carousel layout" toggle has been removed).
  • Branded launch screen & smoother art — a logo splash covers cold start and warms the first screen's covers, and the carousel now prefetches neighbouring systems' box art so moving between consoles shows art instantly instead of grey placeholders.
  • No more crash on a full disk — scraping now stops gracefully with a "Storage full" message instead of crashing when the device runs out of space.

Install: download app-debug.apk below.

v1.3.3 — Redesigned game detail screen

Choose a tag to compare

@keweis2 keweis2 released this 30 Jun 15:28
  • New game detail layout — a cleaner two-column design: box art, title, info and description on the left; the video preview and a big ▶ Play button on the right.
  • Fixed top-button padding so the header / back / favorite buttons no longer hug the top edge in fullscreen.

Install: download `app-debug.apk` below.
