Untidy 0.6.0 beta 5

A substantial usability and playback update for the standalone TIDAL client for Wear OS.

Highlights

  • Better navigation: Back returns through the path you took into Now Playing, artists, and albums. Fixed the black-screen navigation dead end and duplicate player activity stacks. The pull-up menu offers a direct Home action, and Home keeps a Now Playing entry while a session exists.
  • Improved search: Corrected v2 requests and supplemented incomplete results so artists, albums, playlists, and tracks can appear together, with missing artwork and metadata restored.
  • Refined Now Playing: A guarded pull-up grip, a brief first-use hint, integrated menu styling, and an in-app output picker for available Bluetooth devices and the watch speaker.
  • Track and album hearts: Working TIDAL collection updates with immediate visual feedback, haptics, and rollback if an update fails.
  • Quality presentation: An opt-in Full fidelity setting requests lossless/HiRes audio where available, with AAC fallback. A quality-colored gem shows the audio format delivered to the player. Bluetooth output quality still depends on the connection and device.
  • Collection-aware Recent: Listening from an album or playlist preserves that context.
  • Download over LTE: An explicit opt-in, with battery-not-low constraints retained for background downloads. Download eligibility remains dependent on TIDAL permissions and available assets.
  • Less unnecessary work: Bounded playback lookahead, shared API connections, favorite caching, cancellation improvements, and reduced artwork work. Frequent progress updates stop when Now Playing is hidden or ambient.

Validation and remaining work

The release build, lint, and unit-test gate passed. Navigation, search, playback controls, and favorite writes have been exercised on a Galaxy Watch6 LTE. Broader watch and network coverage remains open.

Battery optimization is ongoing. Playback uses Media3/ExoPlayer and Android's MediaCodec path, but runtime hardware-decoder selection and controlled endurance measurements are not complete. Full fidelity can consume more data and battery, particularly where FLAC is decoded in software. Battery Saver remains the conservative default.

Install

Download the attached APK and install it directly on a Wear OS 4+ watch using ADB. Installing the APK on your phone does not transfer it to your watch.
