Release list
KumaBox v0.1.0-rc.1
First public preview
KumaBox runs disposable AI workloads in KVM microVMs. This preview includes a Linux amd64 host archive containing kumabox and kumabox-check, plus a matching Ubuntu 24.04 guest image. The tag, archive and image are built from the same source revision.
Included
- Docker archive and OCI image import, shared read-only EROFS layers, and per-sandbox writable disks.
- Sandbox create, run, start, stop, remove, inspect, exec, console and logs.
- CNI networking, live NIC changes and guest network configuration.
- Live snapshots, restore, hibernate, clone, export and import.
- Managed data disks and runtime disk, virtio-fs and VFIO PCI attachment where supported by the host.
- HTTP API, in-repository Python and TypeScript SDKs, and an experimental subset of the E2B protocol.
Install
On a Linux amd64 host with KVM, download the archive and SHA256SUMS from this release, then run:
sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS
tar -xzf kumabox_v0.1.0-rc.1_linux_amd64.tar.gz
sudo install -m 0755 kumabox kumabox-check /usr/local/bin/
sudo kumabox-check --upgrade
sudo kumabox doctorThe guest image is tagged ghcr.io/kgpp34/kumabox/ubuntu:24.04-v0.1.0-rc.1. Import it with sudo kumabox image pull ghcr.io/kgpp34/kumabox/ubuntu:24.04-v0.1.0-rc.1. The immutable image digest is listed below.
Preview limits
The CLI, API, metadata schema and snapshot format do not yet have a stability guarantee. Use disposable hosts and retain backups. Snapshot compatibility depends on host architecture, Cloud Hypervisor version, VM configuration and capture mode. E2B support is partial; PTY, background processes, filesystem-only snapshots and several other E2B options are not implemented. Multi-node scheduling and warm pools are not included.
See the README for the full quick start and security model.
