  • Captions: the Pop style's thumbnail shows its word (drawn after it popped in); new screens
  • 1.0.4: silent automatic updates, clip effects, captions; CLAUDE.md under 60 lines

PointerStudio 1.0.3

Changes since 1.0.2:

  • Update fixes. Restart now installs an update exactly once and PointerStudio starts again afterwards (before, a second click could start a second installer). A new version is looked for about 10 seconds after start, and again when you open PointerStudio from the tray after a while, and the banner shows as soon as one is found, with its download progress.
  • Shortcut fix. Every install and update now puts back the Desktop and Start menu shortcuts, so an update can no longer leave you without one (no duplicates are made).
  • Crash reports. If PointerStudio crashes, it sends an anonymous error report: a random install ID, the app version, the Windows version, the error message and where in the app's code it happened, with every folder and file path cut down to the file name (folders are removed, a file name the error mentions can remain) and your user name removed. Never your recordings or screen content; at most 3 per launch. They are under the same switch as the usage stats: Settings > System > Share anonymous usage stats (off sends nothing).
  • Third-party notices. Settings > About > Third-party notices (and THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.txt next to the installed app) lists the open-source software PointerStudio includes, with each license.
  • FFmpeg source. PointerStudio includes FFmpeg 6.1.1 (GPL v3). Its source code, with the x264 and x265 sources of the same build, is attached to this release as FFmpeg-6.1.1-source.zip.

PointerStudio 1.0.2

  • Anonymous usage stats: once per launch, PointerStudio sends a random install ID (made by the app, not taken from your PC or account), the app version and the Windows version. It never sends your recordings, file names, screen content, microphone audio or anything about you. Turn it off in Settings > System > Share anonymous usage stats.
