Your Claude usage limits, in the Windows tray. A ring that fills as your
fullest limit does, so you find out you are near the wall before you hit it
rather than mid-task.

Landing page: https://josebarbosa.dev/cota/

Install

winget install kidchenko.Cota
# or
choco install cota

Or take Cota-Setup-0.0.1.exe below, or cota-0.0.1-x64.exe to run without
installing.

Prefer the installer if you want toasts to say "Cota": Windows resolves a
notification's name from an AppUserModelID registered against a Start Menu
shortcut, and only the installer creates one. A portable copy falls back to
borrowing PowerShell's registration.

The binary is not code-signed, so SmartScreen warns on first run. Click
More info, then Run anyway.

What it does

  • Every bucket. Session, weekly, and any per-model limit, each with the
    time until it resets.
  • Tells you when you will run out. At this rate: full in 3h 20m, fitted
from the slope of your own usage rather than from counting local tokens —
subscription buckets are opaque server-side counters, so a token total is a
proxy whose error cannot be bounded.
  • Says where the week went. Which project ate it, read from the transcripts
already on your disk. Labelled as an estimate, because it is one.
  • Interrupts rarely. Toasts at 50%, 80% and 95%, once each per limit per
window, and when a limit you were actually near resets.

Requirements

Windows 10 or later, x64, and Claude Code signed in at least once on this
machine. Cota reads the token Claude Code already stores, never asks for a
credential of its own, and talks to api.anthropic.com and nowhere else.

Notes

The usage endpoint is undocumented and will change. Cota is written for that:
every field optional, unknown fields ignored, a fallback for the older response
shape, and the server's severity grading taken as a floor rather than gospel.
When it does break the ring goes to a grey dashed circle and the menu says why,
rather than showing a number that is quietly wrong.
