Icons vanishing and reappearing on their own. macOS adds and removes menu bar items on its own — the purple screen-recording indicator, for one. With a full menu bar, its arrival pushed the leftmost icon into the notch until the indicator went away.
Measured:
Space right of the notch 645pt 12 assigned icons 622pt 23pt to spare Indicator appears +38pt → 660pt, over budget → leftmost disappearsOver 45 seconds it oscillated between 11 and 12 icons. Anything running at 100% of capacity will thrash when elements come and go.
Fire now measures the space and keeps one slot free. The reserved width isn't a fixed constant — it's the width actually observed on your Mac.
-
When space runs short, Fire tidies up first. It moves one icon to the Fire Bar before macOS hides one arbitrarily. Nothing disappears; it relocates and stays reachable.
-
Nonsense ⌘-drag suggestions. Fire trusted the coordinates of notch-concealed items, which could repeat the same suggestion many times over. It now only uses items whose coordinates it can trust.
Added
- "Show All Temporarily". Tucked-away icons sit off-screen, so you couldn't ⌘-drag them — Fire was telling you to reorder icons you couldn't even see. A button in Settings now reveals everything; rearrange them in the menu bar, click Done, and Fire re-applies hiding in the new order.
- Menu bar capacity. Shown as something like "About 12 icons fit on this display · 584/645pt used". On a display without a notch the number goes up on its own.
- Clearer reason when something isn't visible. "Not contiguous" and "no room" call for different fixes. When there's no room, ⌘-dragging won't help at all.
Worth knowing
A notched display has a fixed number of slots. Beyond that, something always gets tucked away — that's a physical limit Fire can't remove. What Fire does is make that choice deterministic and explainable rather than random.

Fire Bar

Menus opened from the Fire Bar no longer close on their own. A menu would appear and then vanish about 1.5 seconds later, before you could pick anything.
The culprit was a second click Fire sent itself. Sending an Accessibility
AXPressto a menu bar item that owns a menu opens the menu immediately but never returns success — the open menu's tracking blocks the reply until it finally fails with-25204 (CannotComplete)about 1.5 seconds later. Fire read that as a failure and fired a coordinate click as a fallback, and that click toggled the menu it had just opened shut.Fire now decides success by watching the screen, not by the return value.
AXPressis fired on a background thread and Fire only checks whether a pop-up menu window actually appeared. If it did, no fallback click is sent, and the menu stays up until you click elsewhere. -
Clicking an icon responds faster. Icons already visible on screen skip the pre-click rescan (about 1.2 seconds).
-
Added a way out of stale permission records. Sometimes System Settings shows a permission as granted while Fire reports it missing — macOS treats a re-signed build as a different app and keeps the old record. Click Reset Record next to the permission in Settings, then turn it back on.
Changed
- English is now supported. The interface follows your system language.
- Clearer Settings screen. It explains, right where you need it, why Fire can't reorder the "Show in Menu Bar" list (a macOS restriction) and exactly what to
⌘-drag where.
